The cave is amazing -- small, but nestled in the center of a monastery. Patmos isn't too expensive -- it's far to the east & has less tourism. In summer, there's an overnight ferry from Athens (not expensive if you don't book a cabin). Lots of mid-priced hotels, & also people meet the boat offering rooms in their houses. These are clean, cheap, and friendlier. Patmos also has lovely beaches & an amazing walled town/monastery in the center of the island. One of my favorite islands in Greece.

man, it must have been an amazing experience to see in person where John was given the Revelation. i would love to go myself. was it an expensive trip?
