The only other other person I have heard sing this song was by an American comedian named Red Skelton. At one point in his career, he had a comedy variety show on TV through out the 60's. I remember him singing this song then. In his presentation though, the mood of the song was sadder and very regretful for his actions. You did a very splendid job of it. Thank you for posting. I really wish that I could play my guitar as well as you do. Kudos.
The legendary Burl Ives had recorded this back in the mid 1940's. The Dubliners had recorded a version as well. We sing it @ Sweet Rosie O'Grady's Bar & Grill on a regular basis.
Between you and I,I believe David has made this song his very own with his distinctive nuances and subtle touches in his voice and guitar strumming. It was also quite wise of him to not let dear Dimple in on the proceedings,as that would certainly have resulted in utter disaster.

Very nice rendition, David. This was a favourite of mine as a child exploring my parents' collection of Burl Ives 78s.

Hello
David...
This performance was so ENGROSSING and very COMPELLING,that I found myself doing a little dance as you sang and strummed away.
