Actually Star Wars Episode 1 was the most hyped film ever made... Avatar's trailer came out only 4 months before the film. I only saw 2 avatar trailers on tv and that was the week it opened.. This film was not shoved down peoples throats like previous block busters. All the hype came from Nerds online and James Cameron himself...

Well in the UK where I am, I certainly heard people talking about it a year ago, but yes the trailers etc didn't come out until a few months before.
At least Avatar kinda lived up to the hype, Phantom Menace didn't unless you were a complete Star Wars Fanatic I suppose.
