  • What is this from? I clicked this link thinking it was from The King's Speech.

  • @SamhainTheDark It''s a UK TV movie called "Bertie and Elizabeth" You can actually watch it on youtube. Its not as good as the king's speech but it's worth watching. :)

  • King George V should think carefully for his son's future wife before being succeeded. King George VI is more appreciated than Edward VIII (aka. Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor).

  • This film forgets that the King toured Canada as well as a brief visit to the USA in 1939. This film only shows the brief visit to the USA and leaves out completely the lengthy tour of Canada. In Canada, a highway was named after the then Queen.

  • @rockinoliver The King and Queen went to President Roosevelt's home in Hyde Park and he served them hot dogs! From "Nathans" no less!.

  • I have had a good look and found out what the series with Jane Seymour is called ... It is 'The woman He Loved' posted by @VictorianLady2... :0)x

  • What's the name of this movie I want to watch it?

  • @thr33wisemonks ... If you look to the right of this post, you will see 'Bertie and Elizabeth' posted by @BritishRoyalFilms... there are 11 parts and it is really good too, hope this helps. Best regards from Wales UK ... :0)x

  • @thr33wisemonks bertie and elizabeth

  • I own the film and watch it over and over. It would have made extraordinary fiction, but the fact it all really happened makes it even more compelling. Whenever people say the royal family is dull, I tell them in truth they are just the opposite. They have led remarkable lives packed with remarkable experiences and turns in the road. This film also reminds us of Queen Elizabeth II's singular childhood and equally singular parents.

  • I like the way that if the first few seconds of KGVI's reign, his children are already bickering about succession.

  • queen elizabeth then married her cousin resulting in a big nosed floppy eared offspring

  • @tanonginosibalasi Absolute b.s.!!

  • It seems to me that the Windsor women are the ones with all the balls. Perhaps they should have worn the Crown. I cannot see one of them abdicating for some goddamn man.

  • @goodcatholicboy I agree!!

  • @goodcatholicboy Can I get a Witness. I'll say one thing, Prince William has no idea how lucky he is to be able to Marry Katherine because there was a time in the not too distant past where he may not have been allowed.

  • he does sort of stutter in this scene...

  • King George is supposed to have a bad stutter. What movie is this?

  • @FlyingSquarePancakes

    Bertie and Elizabeth.

  • @FlyingSquarePancakes The King's Speech starring Colin Firth.

  • @laminage No that's not Colin Firth haha

  • @FlyingSquarePancakes Oh, I know that Hun. I was just saying that was the movie that I admit got me more interested of This Generation. I was a Teeneger when I first heard about King Edward Abdicating then I saw a TV Movie with Jane Seymour. Very interesting Family.

  • @laminage ... I have seen that one here on 'youtube'... Anthony Andrews plays 'David', King Edward VIII... Interesting perspective, as seen from Wallis's point of view... Best regards from Wales UK ... :0)x

  • Queen Mary certainly had grandure.

  • I am not in any way a 'monarchist' or 'royalist' but we DO have a fantastic, rich history in Britain, and we DO turn out a damn fine drama.

  • @popazz1 Too right.

  • @kimokaker ,

    Glad you agree. : )

  • What a reluctant, courageous, flawed and utterly lovable king "Bertie" was.

  • So much worse than the brilliant film

  • Cute....three seconds after hearing the news the kids are already arguing about who's next.

  • "'Second isn't bad, really..." Aw, cute little Margaret.

  • @Dralcoffin Yet by the time she died, she was 12th. Hers was a position of ever declining importance. I think that was hard for her to take. She should have married Townshend! He was man enough to take care of her properly.

  • The more i read about King Edward VIII. The more i think what an utterly selfish man!

I'm glad they included this domestic scene of the family.

  • Some "great men" hate their heir as the reminder of their own mortality. What is remarkable about Edward as Prince of Wales is that he did lots of PR, but I know of no evidence of his father ever having apprenticed him, so to speak: taught him what a King of England is and what he does, except of course to "set an example", breed an heir and a spare, if possible. Granted the world was changing and George V was a transition king from Victoria to EIIR, but still--David was full of misconceptions!

  • @totaldynamix I think people born in a palace generally are deeply selfish. The nannies who rear them and the servants who pamper to everyone of their whims spoil them terribly. Moreover the ethos of monarhy and aristocracy is "I am entitled to get what I want".

However, it is worth remembering that Edward isn't here to speak up for himselv and he hasn't left behind a Palace office to answer charges and defend his post humus reputaion.

  • @mc0558 Take your point but apparently Bertie was mistreated by his first nanny & was 'royally' teased & bullied - he's one I would cut a bit of slack. Also he performed very well under immense pressure during WWII.

  • King George had a horrific temper and a deep sense of inferiority, but the nobility of his character and his firm embrace of all the things that are important in life--love, loyalty, duty, courage, sincerity, humility, honour--made him a success in life. He was greatly respected and loved.

  • I have seen that you have posted numerous clips from the movie, but would it be possible to post the entire thing? I would really like to see the whole film.

  • Love this movie!

  • I don't love it! It has its strengths, but lots of weaknesses in the script and in the acting. Why aren't George VI's siblings other than David, shown? We never see Baldwin or Chamberlain. George VI's support for appeasement is never depicted. I think the Roosevelt actor is terrible. The Queen Mary and Queen Elixabeth actoresses are barely adequate. The David is good; the Wallis is excellent. The George V (whose name escapes me at the moment) is head and shoulders above the lot of them.

  • Some good points but it's still better then some channel 4 docu-drama about the Royal Family. I am curious to know your views on the new docu-drama, "The Queen" (2009).

  • Do you men the Helen Muren film? The Prince Philip was awful. The Charles was, I thought, taking his inspirtion from Frank Spencer in "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em". Sheen, who played Blair, and the acress who played his wife, were excellent. Muren and Lady Olivier were OK. The script was mediocre.

  • @mc0558 ,

Just a small point. You say Lady Olivier was ok.I think you may be referring to Sylvia Simms, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.Lady Olivier,(Joan Plowright),wasn't in The Queen.Trivial,I know, but I thought I'd get in on the act,as every-1's correcting every-1 else, lol.Though I agree,Helen Mirren WAS amazing & Sheene as Blair was spot-on.Your observation on the 'actor' playing Charles to Frank Spencer was inspired, lol.

  • Alan Bates, of course! An excellent actor. Much missed!

  • No, Helen Mirren's "The Queen" was made in 2006. I meant the new docu-drama, which was just made last year by channel 4. If you do not know what I am talking about then google it. You will find it, I am sure!

  • No. I didn't see it this ne docu-drama. Though British, I spend most of my time in America, Italy and Switzerland. I see very little British television.

Why? Do you have some comments about it you wish to share?
