Hitchens was an egocentric scumbag. If he loved the goddamn Iraq War so goddamn much why didn't he pick up a gun and go put his Johnny Walker Black guzzling chain-smoking ass on the front lines? The War finally ended the day before this waste of human life died, and he died because he could no longer get off the idea of that American soldiers were dying in Iraq and more money wasn't being flushed down the toilet for his disastrous debacle. Fuck you Christopher Hitchens. I'm glad you're dead.
Yes, ironic that he so vehemently denied the existence of God because of the lack of proof of God, but ignored events and outcomes in the real world that disproved his other arguments.

There are people who called themselves "CHRISTIANS" actually glad that Mr. Hitchens has died and that he died of cancer. (And I'm aware you can turn to me and say Hitchens might have been a part of an intellectual force which led to the deaths of countless innocents - this does not give you a theological right, which is the impression I get, to say who deserves life and who does not based on the actions of others. What are you, God?)

The worlds seems a little duller now who will defend us from the idio cracy. RIP dear comrade.
Christopher Hitchens put God in the dock; he will now understand how wrong he was and how these admirers have been misled by a faulty logic that is contrary to selfless love.
Thank you for allowing so many freethinkers to toast "Hitch" and posting this here.
Christopher was a freethinker with clear thought. He could articulate like no one else I have ever had the pleasure to read or otherwise observe.
I, too, raise my glass to the profoundly-sincere, lover-of-life, and champion of arousing our ability to be an adult and proclaim that the emperor has no clothes!
We will miss Christopher; we are so much richer for having experienced him. His work is timeless.
@imax1971 I can't really speak for dkthg, or anyone else for that matter. But the clip from 4:50 - 4:58 was stated perfectly for how Hitchens has influenced my life. Perhaps many others can say the same.
Who are they talking to? According to "hitch" he is just a rotting corpse at the moment... I find it sad that people actually care about a self proclaimed Marxist... He wasn't a good person people.. He devoted his life insulting others... Raise your glass if it makes you feel good... The fact is you are raising it to what was a repulsive human being.
@imax1971 While I don't agree with many views of Hitchens I do respect his debate against religion. This video isn't about his political views, it's about what he did for the Atheistic Community, He didn't devote his life insulting people it's just jackass's like yourself were offended by his views, Such as belief in something based on logic and reason over faith and belief, I would find it sad for someone to devote themselves to a book just so they could get to a heaven ruled by a dictator.
first of all I am Muslim and we believe the God who created Mosses and Abraham and Jesus and Muhamed may peace and blessing be on to them is nothing like and "Old man in the Sky"
Like the quran stated "Say, "He is Allah , [who is] One,
Allah , the Eternal Refuge.
He neither begets nor is born
Nor is there to Him any equivalent."
May the allMighty guide us all ...because we r going to know this fact about God but its better to know it while we are still alive ..before its too late
@ChangingTheScript It is a mere fiction. I have also read some good fiction over the holiday period, but I don't talk about it on a video paying respects to a recently dead person. There is no point in apologizing for possibly offensive words, when your purpose here is offensive.
What I'd like you to say is this: "The Quran is wrong to suggest the death penalty for apostasy. This primitive component of Islam has no place in any society that values freedom."
@ChangingTheScript You meant no offense? You said "...May God give him what he deserved..". Do you think that is offensive? Now you humbly seek our forgiveness? You're a sanctimonious cunt - so fuck off. Don't come back.
And to think people still believe in old men in the sky lol. Lol at christians saying he accomplished nothing. You mean he didnt waste his entire life in a church doing nothing but worship some make believe creator? It's so sad knowing so many religious people waste their entire life thinking all their reward comes at death and end up doing nothing with their gift of existence except hate on people that didnt agree with them....pathetic theists are pathetic.
sorry if i offended others iam really sorry...but i watched what Hitchens said about my religion and the Iraq war and i was really pissed...I am very sorry to everyone here that i have offended..hopefully it will not happend again...thank u guys
Hitchen's death has shown us the true nature (again) of the theist. The sanctimonious, bilious, stupid, sociopathic shit they have posted on here is mind-boggling. Why the constant confusion between respect and worship? Why can't they understand we don't necessarily agree with him about everything? Why can't they understand that not all of us drink? Or support the Iraq war.
Thanks Hitch - even in your death you uncover the theistic mind - some feat!
Though we never met, Christopher Hitchens was a friend. All things must pass, nevertheless the news of his death profoundly saddened me. The world has lost a beautiful mind, a splendid wit, & a lens through which truth is focused, but superstition is filtered. How many insights must wait to be revealed because he can no longer write? Truly, a giant among men. A role model for our time. Christopher's prose give me the courage to speak my truth quitely & clearly. Hitch, thank you. Cheers.
The man was sad individual who had mocked the true religion of God. 62 years and he did not accomplish anything substentive in this world....May God give him what he deserved..
some one said "Someone who constantly drinks hard liquor to bear the company of others is likely to be a bore, and a boor."
The sad thing is, if he had written a column condemning the Iraq war and apologizing for his support of it, the next morning he would have awakened cancer-free and would have lived another 40 years. Anyone who supported the Iraq War deserves to get cancer.,
@36crazyguy I don't think you truly realize what a refreshingly original thinker he was to integrate literature and politics & analysis of the real world is very rare if you can provide a current alternative I'd like to know? All the rest of them seem like amateurs.
@xxxMarzikinnsxxx hitch couldnt get through the day without a bottle of whiskey in him..that says a lot about the guy dont you think.....you people hate it when people disagree with you.or express a different opinion from yours...typical liberals !!!!
@36crazyguy Why focus on one side of his life his love of whiskey!..take a look and you will see MANY great people enjoy/ed a regular daily drink!..Mozart, Beethoven, Alexander the Great, Eric Clapton, David Hasselhoff, Mel Gibson, John Daly, Drew Barrymore, Nick Nolte, Gary Busy, Colin Farrell and Robert Downey, Jr are just a few..just because someone drinks dosen't make them less of a person..Hitch did more in his life than you will ever do!...yes he enjoyed a drink so what!
@MrCOLTSR2 he was a piss head and couldnt face the world unless he was drunk.he had to down a couple of bottles of whiskey before he could face his demons.Gary Bussy.....Drew Barrymore....do you look up to these idiots also !!!!!!!
Excellent video, made me cry. Hitch will be missed but never forgotten R.I.P. He was and will be in future great influence with all atheists around the world.
As strange as this may sound, and I know I'll get angry responses to this, I really had a lot of respect for Mr. Hitchens. Although I take the opposing view ( obviously), he made good valid arguments, was intelligent, funny, and tried to attack IDEAS and not people (unlike some others). He brought out points that really made me think, and dig, and read , and learn. I give Mr. HITCHENS every bit as much credit for sharpening my debate skills as I do the most staunch Theist.
Christopher H dies, OK come on now people lets drink poison and destroy our livers and minds, lets degrade ourselves even more. Let us destory Gods art work.
Just because you're tee total doesn't mean you can have a go at those who do enjoy a drink and would rather live life doing things they enjoy than live a long life.
Who wants to live till they're 120 anyway? 50 years at least of misery...
@RespectMyHate "God's art work" is designed to be transient! If the booze don't get you, something else will. And boozing one's self to death is not atheism per se - just an idiosyncrasy of one atheist. Thought you ought to know.
@adolfarrakahane.... I mean no offense, but you either googled that quote or you don't really know an atheists. Most human beings value something above character. Money, status, intellect. The best of us, atheists included, put character 1st. Be well.
Cheers, great clip hope it gets longer, just need to get hold of a black label and a web cam and join the tribute, RIP Hitch, u will always live on in our memory.
"Thank you for teaching how to think and not what to think". Well said mate! We couldn't pay a better tribute to a thinker and an atheist who defied the loud and shrill voices of pious stupidity, challenged the dictatorship of religion and stood up to the fallacy of theism. Cheers Hitch, we'll miss your voice and the beauty of your words.
ALL of us humans believe things we cannot prove in an absolute sense. The atheist cannot prove there is NO God, soul, afterlife, Heaven, Hell or Day of Judgment; the atheist merely believes these things to be true. By definition, since we are mortal, finite creatures who possess only a tiny amount of the total information, ALL humans live by faith, not in the narrow, religious sense of the term, but in the broad sense of the term: believing in things one cannot prove.
@farje1 Shrugs. I would rather be "boring" and truthful and correct than entertaining and spouting nonsense. Not saying YOU are doing that, just saying it as a general principle.
@justin10292000 Well said sir. Dawkins put it well, I think, when he said that to believe that the universe is NOT the creation of a divine, omnipotent being, is to believe that it is something fundamentally more special. And, to the people who have demeaned themselves to the extent of the blind, religous hatred found in several comments below, it was the inhumanity of such comments which I found on videos regarding atheistic ideals which finally caused me to embrace atheism. RIP Hitch.
Yo. If he hadn't died, I'd tell him to take his whoring ass back to FAUX "News" where he was before. He might be an Atheist, but he a bag of shit, and you Repugnat assholes can have him. We don;'t need dog shit like him to explain Atheism.
@daniloorbolato He's out of your league, why bother? And as he has clearly proven to the world, god doen't exist and if he did, he would not be great. Fuck you
This video misses the point entirely. Raising drinks to someone whose views agrees with your own is no evidence of anything. Damning him to hell because of your own shortsighted belief in God is just as bad. Bottom line, whatever IT is, Chris knows now. If that's nothing, then it's nothing. If it's God, then he knows. Either way it's a barrier none here have crossed. You don't know. None of us do. But we'll cross that line with him one day and only then become an authority.
@oneleggedspider but wait they say they know, and so do we, but the choice of faith in one of the other , that is moot, the fact that they put down others for the difference in opinion with out any logical debate. it is a matter of respect that none seems to have here for each other.
@DSNightwalker I'm not really sure which side of the fence you're on, who the " we " and the " they " are...but it doesn't really matter because regardless, I agree with what you wrote.
@oneleggedspider thanks, it is god to see some one who thinks. it is almost irrelevant to sides they might as well be the same with the hate, bigotry etc, the whole thing for or against is a issue of faith, and im american and to me we have the freedom to believe, and they have the freedom not to believe. what is bad is that people are thinking they are smarter or superior to the other for or not believing. & both sides demand the respect, and right to speak no one wins with out proof.
@UnboughtandUnbossed there is something disingenuous . but then again honoring the dead seams more like an oxymoron for people disengaging a god, and thus an afterlife. so it is a moot point.
and the people think only the knuckle daggers are bullies, when you are superior you should act superior, this is a case of literally being better not putting people down etc. now the bigot is simply, when you have some one less intelligent you teach them that makes you a better person. but im not seeing anyone better here. my lack of perfection only establishes me as a target, and creates a bunch of hypocrites . but that is human nature is it not. instinct lacks intelligence.animals pity
Thank you Christopher for forcing the Christians to have intelligent responses, and for weeding out unreasonable responses from among us. May you forever remain in the loving arms of God.
@patientthomist he has nothing to do with this, if people let you speak with out treating you ill for having different thoughts and opinions than theirs with out insulting you and beliddling you, calling you stupid, well now ..Treat us good, we'll treat you better. "Treat us bad, We'll treat you worse."BB logic there
Ding Dong! The Hitch is dead. Which old Hitch? The Wicked Hitch! Ding Dong! The Wicked Hitch is dead. Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed. Wake up, the Wicked Hitch is dead. He's gone where the goblins go, Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out. Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low. Let them know The Wicked Hitch is dead!
@saxzw we could take the energy approach which in a way would confirm some of the beliefs of religion that the souls would be immortal, if it is energy Energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be changed from one form to another. funny how thinking for your self might coincide with other peoples thoughts and findings in the past, but then again true can only be true, or it becomes false. and was never true.
@goruby2 He is buried and the energy content contained within his body will be returned to the Earth, so that flora and fauna can dine upon it, just as he had dined upon fauna and flora throughout his life :)
My father is an engineer, my mother was a collage educated homemaker and I am a practicing architect. Typical middle class American I suppose. It wasn't till later in life I came to God and it's been a long and winding road, but I've never been more secure in my worldview, personal and political life. I've never stopped challenging myself before or since and I genuinely feel the urge to share this amazing thing with my fellow primates, lol. Seriously.
My deepest sympathies go out to the atheist community. Absolutely tragic! You have lost 2 of your own in the space of 3 days. the great prophets of atheism hitchens and now kim jong-il.
Also important, I realized I made a common mistake, I heard some religious folks say some foolish things (and they were foolish) and I allowed it to really be the foundation of my judgements. Once I let that go however (not easy for me) i was able to take a merit based approach, swallowed my pride a bit, and realized I was repulsed by certain representatives and not much else. I learned it was much more than Sunday school and the pope...much more.
@pat5168 what is strange is as a christian you can have something happen some form of spiritual occurrence , and science cannot say anything really about it, but will try and rationalize it away. but it is very personal, and others when you look have had the something very similar if not the same, it is hard to describe how i ended up crying on stage and speaking. and none of what i was saying was what i had intended to say, when something is on your heart, it is heavy. i can't explain.
@DSNightwalker Yes, a number of my friends and I have had our share of such experiences. Seeing is believing, but believing isn't knowing, an openness to a subjective reality being wrong is the only way to move on, no matter how sincere and convinced you are of its occurrence. Then and only then will your worldview become more than just one meager perspective.
@pat5168 well the other thing is that for some one to personally prove their own experiences it near impossible. that would and should be some ones personal evidence and valid in its own way.
Well, I think I had an "experience" of sorts that I won't bore you with, a religious moment of sorts, ironically when I wasn't even searching. That moment was what caused me to search so I read texts and scholars on the subject and it changed my life. It's wild to see the world from the "other sides" perspective I'll tell you. Just mind blowing. All of a sudden I sound like THEM! Lol.
All those who die without Christ Jesus will face eternal death...turn to Jesus now before it is too late and you end up like this poor man. I hope his family and friends are blessed with the love of Jesus.
I agree wholeheartedly with those who posted excoriating remarks about Hitchen’ s hypocrisy opposing the first Gulf War, to then cheerlead for the false WMD, fake humanitarian, right-wing,disastrous, neo-fascist misadventure that was Bush and the second Iraq war. I agree wholeheartedly that Hitchens was an inspiring, brilliant thinker, provocateur, genius, great writer, who could make his audience think. A true hero , whether one agreed or not - RIP Hitch, one of my heroes.
@4LackOfaBetterNam3 your a real perfectionist....im surprised you believe in grammar.youve obviously a lot of spare time on your hands....just like the morons in this video.
@4LackOfaBetterNam3 im surprised that so many morons are sucked in by that charlatan.one day when you grow up youl be embarrassed by your devotion to hitchens...just like the rest of the gimps in this video.
@4LackOfaBetterNam3 why do you respect him...he supported the invasion of iraq were hundreds of thousands of innocents died.this was one of the greatest disasters of recent times.anybody who supports this zionist war and destruction and the killing of innocents cant be classed as human.
@4LackOfaBetterNam3 He was, true, he should have never supported the illegal war in Irak but as British comedian and activist Mark Steel said: "even when he was wrong he was brilliant". Nuf said
@farje1 Unless you're the one murdered, tortured or raped because of that "wrong" mistake of support. Hitchens rode the Blair/Bush pony. No reason to celebrate over that.
@shkspeerx You are right, he made the big mistake to support an illegal and criminal war but we are not celebrating that but his fight against the obscurity and nastiness of religion. We all have our flaws. Hitch's was his support to the war but he inspired many people with his courageous intellectual acumen on the stupidity of theism. That's what we celebrate.

@4LackOfaBetterNam3 any one who supports the slaughter in iraq deserves death.hopefully bush and blair die a lingering death also.maybe he was drinking too mucnh at that stage.how are sales of jonny walker now....
@xomiakas you so called atheists love showing of your atheism...you think your more intellectual than anyone else because of your atheism....hitch was forever changing his politics and philosophy.he was laughing at people like you and the gimps in this video.you muppets made him rich.he could churn out any old shit and you gimps lapped it all up !!!!!
@36crazyguy "so called atheists" - Touche, you so called theists... Tou-fucking-che. ".you think your more intellectual than anyone else because of your atheism" - And, in fact, we are, in the area of critical thinking. "hitch was forever changing his politics and philosophy." - a very human and intelligent thing to do. If he sees a more suitable position for him he moves right to it. Intelligent people do that. "he was laughing at people like you" - he was, in fact, mocking sad fucks like you.
@xomiakas Well said. It's almost as if 36crazyguy thinks that the most intelligent people pick 1 position on every topic and stick with it no matter what, like what religious nuts such as himself do. I will be continually shaping my thoughts on all issues until the day I die, basing them off of EVIDENCE. It is scary to know that we share the world with people who DON'T grow mentally, even when provided with a huge lack of evidence in certain fields such as religion.

I never supported christopher hitchens anti religion"crusade" it only provoked more seperatism between the people.
I support friendship and peace for all types of folks
understanding and respecting each others beliefs, no matter what they are.
Both theist and atheist have they're extreme groups of people that the world is better of without them, and christopher was one of them.
His brother Peter is a way better rolmodel than he ever was.
But hes dead now, he wont be bothering anyone anymore

Thank you for allowing so many freethinkers to toast "Hitch" and posting this here.
Christopher was a freethinker with clear thought. He could articulate like no one else I have ever had the pleasure to read or otherwise observe.
I, too, raise my glass to the profoundly-sincere, lover-of-life, and champion of arousing our ability to be an adult and proclaim that the emperor has no clothes!
We will miss Christopher; we are so much richer for having experienced him. His work is timeless.

Who are they talking to? According to "hitch" he is just a rotting corpse at the moment... I find it sad that people actually care about a self proclaimed Marxist... He wasn't a good person people.. He devoted his life insulting others... Raise your glass if it makes you feel good... The fact is you are raising it to what was a repulsive human being.
imax1971 1 month ago

ChangingTheScript 2 months ago
@ChangingTheScript It is a mere fiction. I have also read some good fiction over the holiday period, but I don't talk about it on a video paying respects to a recently dead person. There is no point in apologizing for possibly offensive words, when your purpose here is offensive.
What I'd like you to say is this: "The Quran is wrong to suggest the death penalty for apostasy. This primitive component of Islam has no place in any society that values freedom."
Now you try it.
garethb1961 2 months ago

Thanks Hitch - even in your death you uncover the theistic mind - some feat!
garethb1961 2 months ago
Though we never met, Christopher Hitchens was a friend. All things must pass, nevertheless the news of his death profoundly saddened me. The world has lost a beautiful mind, a splendid wit, & a lens through which truth is focused, but superstition is filtered. How many insights must wait to be revealed because he can no longer write? Truly, a giant among men. A role model for our time. Christopher's prose give me the courage to speak my truth quitely & clearly. Hitch, thank you. Cheers.

No, lacking belief in something for which there is no evidence is not faith.
In fact, it is the exact opposite!
A lack of faith is not In-and-of itself a faith in the same way that a lack of a car is not a type of car!
seansalvador1 2 months ago
@justin10292000 Well said sir. Dawkins put it well, I think, when he said that to believe that the universe is NOT the creation of a divine, omnipotent being, is to believe that it is something fundamentally more special. And, to the people who have demeaned themselves to the extent of the blind, religous hatred found in several comments below, it was the inhumanity of such comments which I found on videos regarding atheistic ideals which finally caused me to embrace atheism. RIP Hitch.

magicabbie 2 months ago
This video misses the point entirely. Raising drinks to someone whose views agrees with your own is no evidence of anything. Damning him to hell because of your own shortsighted belief in God is just as bad. Bottom line, whatever IT is, Chris knows now. If that's nothing, then it's nothing. If it's God, then he knows. Either way it's a barrier none here have crossed. You don't know. None of us do. But we'll cross that line with him one day and only then become an authority.
oneleggedspider 2 months ago
@oneleggedspider but wait they say they know, and so do we, but the choice of faith in one of the other , that is moot, the fact that they put down others for the difference in opinion with out any logical debate. it is a matter of respect that none seems to have here for each other.

oneleggedspider 2 months ago
@oneleggedspider thanks, it is god to see some one who thinks. it is almost irrelevant to sides they might as well be the same with the hate, bigotry etc, the whole thing for or against is a issue of faith, and im american and to me we have the freedom to believe, and they have the freedom not to believe. what is bad is that people are thinking they are smarter or superior to the other for or not believing. & both sides demand the respect, and right to speak no one wins with out proof.

UnboughtandUnbossed 2 months ago

and the people think only the knuckle daggers are bullies, when you are superior you should act superior, this is a case of literally being better not putting people down etc. now the bigot is simply, when you have some one less intelligent you teach them that makes you a better person. but im not seeing anyone better here. my lack of perfection only establishes me as a target, and creates a bunch of hypocrites . but that is human nature is it not. instinct lacks intelligence.animals pity

@Jblod240 Indeed, it is a very rich experience.
pat5168 2 months ago
@pat5168 what is strange is as a christian you can have something happen some form of spiritual occurrence , and science cannot say anything really about it, but will try and rationalize it away. but it is very personal, and others when you look have had the something very similar if not the same, it is hard to describe how i ended up crying on stage and speaking. and none of what i was saying was what i had intended to say, when something is on your heart, it is heavy. i can't explain.
D, ,
DSNightwalker 2 months ago
@DSNightwalker Yes, a number of my friends and I have had our share of such experiences. Seeing is believing, but believing isn't knowing, an openness to a subjective reality being wrong is the only way to move on, no matter how sincere and convinced you are of its occurrence. Then and only then will your worldview become more than just one meager perspective.
pat5168 2 months ago
@pat5168 well the other thing is that for some one to personally prove their own experiences it near impossible. that would and should be some ones personal evidence and valid in its own way.

It is scary to know that we share the world with people who DON'T grow mentally, even when provided with a huge lack of evidence in certain fields such as religion.
