Is it just me or there more than just a passing harmonic reference to a passage in Liszt's Transcendental Etude number 2 in A minor (namely the harmony of the rising theme after the initial descent)?
beautifully controlled lightness of touch (as usual from Hamelin) in a devilishly difficult piece. I am currently learning his Prelude and Fugue and christ is it hard...
Calm down man, its just an adjective I used to describe the evolution of the sound from that of a romantic o a more modern rendition. Not too say this version is worse-it's equally genuis.
In addition, this isn't even Godowsky, its Hamelin's study on this particulary etude-I've checked all 6 of Godowsky versions and none of them match this piece-this is Hamelin's original formulated note system applied to Chopin's etude-NOT Godowsky.
Despite the living legend of our classical era by this wonderful and awesomely gorgeous almost more than a freaking genius, kind of don't understand this melody of this one. Oh well, it's still just a merely practice piece, what should I expect too much for interpretation, as long as it's on the black keys exclusively...
He played this at a recital in Melbourne, which took place in October 2009. I remember I just couldn't help giggling the whole way through! It was absolutely brilliant and creative to the max!
who arranged this music? is it godowsky?

Brilliant!! I had the chance to meet Hamelin in the flesh...most down to earth guy....seemed almost oblivious to his own fame and genius.

What is the point of music my friend? What's the point of art?
Diffomega 11 months ago
@Diffomega
ruining a piece.
v4liumfrance 11 months ago
@v4liumfrance Sorry, wrong answer!
tomekkobialka 11 months ago
@v4liumfrance so the whole point of making art since the start of making was always ruining a piece? I can't see any sense there.
Diffomega 11 months ago
@Diffomega Me neither.
tomekkobialka 11 months ago
@Diffomega Neither do I
v4liumfrance 11 months ago
@v4liumfrance Therefore your argument is incorrect my friend.

Ah sorry, I was referring to the op.7 no.4 etude - it's the only Stravinsky etude I currently know, though :)

This piece is totally nuts! But great! I would never recognize the homage if it weren't for the title though.

I truly believe that Hamelin owes us all an explanation of how he does this stuff. It's like he's a circus act!

I think people were saying the same exact thing about Cziffra when he was still alive.

Chopin occasionally composed during periods of temporary insanity as proven here. My God, man, how in hell do you do it??????????

Chopin on crack! I love it. It's probably way more challenging to play than the original it's based on. Bravo!
