Like many people, I disagreed with a lot of Falwell's more extreme statements, and I don't necessarily think that the fundamentalist evangelical lobby is always a good force in US politics. But I do respect him personally; he came from a difficult background, he worked hard to help a lot of people, and he really believed what he said.
