I saw the first airshow performance of the tomcat, and the last at Oceana N.A.S. I was somewhere between 6 and 8 years old when I first saw the "Connally's Cat",and I was 41 years old when I went to Oceana and saw its retirement in 2006. I had a tear in my eye the last time I saw the cat bow before the crowd.

If you don't have any idea what you are talking about, don't show your ignorance by posting comments. The reason this beautiful jet was retired was because of the maintenance man hours required per flight hour. It had nothing to do with politics or how expensive it was in terms of money. It simply required too many maintenance hours per hour of flight. I should know since I was an avionics technician on them from 2001-2003. There were always more things broke than we had time to fix.

Nice music in remembrance to my favorite airplane "F-14 Grumman Tomcat" Very surprised of its sudden retirement in 2006. However, the F-14 will always be one of the most inspiring airplanes that existed. I hope i have the chance to see it on an aviation museum @ least experience the actual airplane:)

The F-14 was a good plane but not all around. It wuz just upstaged by the F-18 because the F-18 is more manuverable then the F-14 and the F-14 was a gas guzler and thats the only reason it was retired. The F-18 is just better all around

In the last few years of its service it was unbeatable in delivering ordinance thanks to upgrades like ROVER. The F-14 was always the first asked for by the grunts. words can't express the sadness i felt when i heard the 14 was being retired. it was the whole reason i got into the aviation community. i only got to see it in flight once. it was a great fighter and could've been still, but budgeting got to it first. F14 you will be sorely missed

I spent nearly all of my Naval aviator career flying the Tomcat, it was designed around the premise of being a "Fleet defense interceptor" and intercept it COULD! The present multirole fighters are fine, but can never be compared to the mighty Tomcat! The F14 was a Huge Fighter by todays standards, and those massive P@W's could get you supersonic in seconds, amazing aircraft, RIP my old friend!
