This is an excellent demonstration. As you said, everyone has to find their own way of holding their work. Seeing several styles helps a new crochet-er develop their own unique style, Thank you.
so, when I crochet I find that the yarn coming from the ball unravles as I work. Is this someting in the way I hold my thread? Have you ever had this problem?
i hold my yarn the way you do and my fingers cramp up so bad...I wanted to know if your fingers hurt and cramp as well and if not, what do you think I am doing wrong... Thank you so much Teresa!
You can use any size hook you would like to use when you are practicing. If you are pulling hard, your stitches will be small. Your stitches will be holey if you are not holding the thread tight enough. Practice will help you perfect your tension.
I have a question. When i do s.crochet or any other stich. They are not even, when i turn and do the next stich.some stich are look pulled, like a hole.I hope you understand me.they dont look even like in they shows in pictue.
Thanks for your lesson. I just taught myself to crochet and they way I am holding the yarn is wrong and my project was way too loose and the gauge is way off.
You are welcome. There are several ways to hold your yarn and crochet hook. If you are a new crocheter, your tension is going be off until you practice and develop a consistent tension. That will come with lots of practice.
Thanks for the advise. The yarn was moving up towards the finger hold area, which caused loose stitches. Now I am concentrating on keeping the yarn just to the working area of the hook. Love your informative videos!
I hold my thread similarly to you, and I completely understand how weird it would be to hold your thread out with your forefinger - most uncomfortable!!
Thanks for demo, Teresa! I'm re-learning crochet after learning as a very young child & I don't recall using tension. It's amazing what we forget =)

This is how I crochet as well... I've tried other ways, but I just can't seem to get anywhere.
I've learnt so much from you Teresa. I will never stop thanking you enough. You are very precious. Take care

Thanks to this vid, I've found my own way of holding the yarn to keep tension. As a beginner, this has been a constant battle for me. Thanks :)

It may be the thread or yarn you are using.

You may be holding on to tight to your yarn. Try relaxing your grip and not holding as tight.
tjw1963 2 years ago
Thank u! I'll try that!

Thank you for this video. I had seen another showing me the other way you talked about, and I, too, was having trouble holding my work that way.
Since your video and using your tips, I've been finding a method that works for me. I feel a lot more confident in my work now.
