  • Wow a open minded video. To tell you i think Youtube Atheist are the most annoying. They are close minded to anyone point of view other then there own. They insult any person of religion. These are people who call themselves smart. But i find them to be Hateful and intolerance. I dont like Intolerance. No matter if its Atheist or a Theist. I dont believe where going to get to the point where there's no religion. Most people of faith are not fundamentalist. And a lot of them LIKE Science.

  • Thank you for offering insight into another culture many only make assumptions about ... it was helpful for me.

  • @pdxmsbhvn

    What?

  • @rockandrock44 I said thank you for sharin your insiht about this alternate culture. I appreciate facts because I had no relevent information on the subject and was biased based on assumptions ... which is dangerous.

  • Master of the obvious.

  • I'm a christian and i love this video, completely two sided, showing the flaws in either side. bravo

  • well yeah it is true that atheist have more room for diversity by definition but theist are pretty different too because how many different religions are out there and yes if we compare i'm sure atheists are more different

  • Great video. It's so rare to see people on either side of what is really a pointless debate speak with any kind of respect.

  • Whats with this watered down atheist stuff?

    Down with Religion!!!

  • An interesting perspective rockandrock44.

    Katalyzt

  • 2:41, Yes, some Christians do behave (it's always about behavior) like 1. They are "better than" others (such as the US vs. Them in churching going). 2.They may play church 3. dislay some immoral acts - which I do not know what those acts are (from an athiests point of vew- I do not know since I am not an athiest. )

Of course I know what "Christians" say "immoral acts" are. Stuff like premarital sex. But what is 'immoral" to the atheist? (not just killing).

  • So I heard somone the other day talking about how they are a theistic atheist?

What is a theistic atheist? At first thought it's an athiest that believes in god... but doesn't athiest mean simply you don't believe in god?

Honest question.. trying to figure this label out.

  • If all theists were like you atheists wouldn't have a problem at all and would go back to being a good little quiet minority. Too bad that's not the case.... Anyway. Thanks for the vid!

  • Great video, and as a theist, I agree. :)

  • Great video. Well said, sir. I think there are as many reasons to come to Theism as there are reasons to come to Atheism. But it is only a single element to what goes to make up a person. True, the side on which you stand will guide, or "flavour", the direction of many other elements that go to make up a person, but the possible variations are infinate. 5*'s. Perhaps, some day, we'll come back to common aspects between us. It's encouraging to see that you're another voice on that journey.

  • Good video. This atheist appreciates your reasonable position.

  • rockandrock44.I love your video,There are so many intelligent people that have religion and that lack religion. They all don't need to be overlooked.I am an atheist, and while I have been hated on by christians, and people of other religions,I cannot hate on any religion because every individual hold there on belief on certain subjects such as atheism. That goes with race too,I don't see how anyone can be racist, like every one in a race is programmed to think a certain way, each person is different.

  • Theists and Atheists have much in common. They all share a lack of belief in thousands of deities. Unfortunately, many theists in positions of power tend to want everyone to 'see' their way as the truth. Add herd mentality to the equation and you have organized religions, containing and controlling their 'sheep'. I wish we could just get with the 21st century and drop all delusional thought. It hinders progress and understanding of our plight, the plight of the planet and the 6th mass extinction

  • //It hinders progress and understanding of our plight, the plight of the planet and the 6th mass extinction//

What exactly is this 'plight of the planet'?

You mean as in climate change? If so, I don't see how that relates to anything about religion.

  • It has a lot to do with religion. Christians are taught to distrust science, especially when it comes to biology. If biologists ring the alarm bell, fundies don't take it seriously or they relate it to the end of times. In general, science is hindered by theocrats, especially clergy.

  • @saxmanchiro Was it not Dawkins that argued that we are all atheists, he just goes one god further?

  • @DauntlessNullifidian

Yep, it was he. As a young boy, many moons ago, I was taught Greek mythology. It struck me as odd that this Abrahamic god fellow was not included in the lessons. I learned before the age of ten that adults lie to their kids to keep them under control. I figured god was a lie, along with Tooth Fairies, Easter Bunnies, Mother Goose, Father Time. It was that easy for me. When scientific explanations came along a bit later, it was easy to accept the truth.

  • Thank you for making this video! I don't know how much it will actually help (seeing comments such as the one by TheTestDumies), but your heart is in the right place and that counts for a lot. You have earned my respect.

  • If while watching a movie the director, crew, and sound guy walked into the seene... how fun would it be to watch? need i say more?

  • God is one and he exists. Think about all the things that are around us. How perfectly God has created every thing. The seas, fish, trees, animals etc. every thing that we can see is perfect. All created by God for the service of man. If a man living in Africa has not seen America it does not mean that America does not exist. A man without religion is a creature of circumstances.

  • Atheist believe in God. As themselves. As the inherit self giving knowledge of Lucifer. I wouldn't hardly be fooled by atheist and their relationship with the Devil. The absurd evolution ?theory? meant big $Dollars bills$ for those who purposed this ridiculous assumption, bank trust, and prominent standing. The atheist's couldn't stand my truthful logic. They blocked me from reply. The problem with science is that even if your holding dinosaur bones in your hand. You ONLY assume the picture.

  • I think Ravi Zacharias said it best, if you think atheism will exist forever, you are wrong. India and Asia are full of coherent worldviews that are even older than Christianity. Also, take a course in comparative religion, religious beliefs are as natural as breathing, atheism is not natural.

  • Very well said. You were so right about theist and atheist in my opinion.

  • If a person came up to me and told me about his invisible, incorporeal pet baby huffelump, I'd think he was nuts and might ridicule him for it. What difference is that from believing in the gods? It is insincere to pretend to respect people who believe in nonsense, who foist it upon innocent children, who use it to insist on special social privileges for themselves, and who try and succeed in making their religious doctrines public law.

  • //If a person came up to me and told me about his invisible, incorporeal pet baby huffelump//

Strawman. I'm not going further until you actually represent my position.

// is insincere to pretend to respect people who believe in nonsense//

You don't have to respect the belief...no one is making you. I don't respect atheism. However, you should at least respect people's right to believe and respect people as fellow human beings.

  • I wasn't making an argument. I was offering a simile. If religious people believed their gods had bodies and we could see them, then it would have been another fallacy, not straw man. It is very easy to make claims about things that nobody can see. But when you make claims about invisible things that never reveal themselves (the gods), you are making extraordinary statements beyond anyone's ability to verify. That is the point of the simile I created for comparison.

  • Buddhism is Atheism, Jainsm is atheism and the branch of hinduism from which these two old religion came is also believe in atheism. I am a hindu and I am an atheist. I still follow all the rules of my religion. Very good video.

  • Very interesting! How long have there been atheistic branches of Hindu and do they have any specific names? Any links?

  • I more or less agree with your conclusions. I do think however, that atheism is best defined as the belief that God or gods don't exist. Because that definition fits better within the whole theist-atheist-agnostic (if an agnostic is defined as one who is not committed to believing in the existence or nonexistence of God or gods) interactiion.

  • Actually, I've been leaning toward that thought as well.

However, many atheists claim to be agnostics at heart since they cannot have absolute knowledge about God's non-existence.

  • I guess I don't think that having "absolute knowledge" about God's nonexistence is required to be an atheist. I would say that all that's required is that one believe that God doesn't exist. The level of certainty of that belief is a different issue in my mind.

  • Theism is independent of what you know about any divine agents, but is describing that you believe in something of that nature, and as such the lack of that belief doesn't require any knowledge towards its position either. Gnosticism is about the knowledge of the supernatural forces, and agnosticism is the position that we lack knowledge of this supernatural world. Strong atheist is kind of a gnostic atheist, who know about the spiritual world; He/she know it is not any such world.

  • You I would call enlightened. I only get upset (as an atheist) towards the religious when they try to impose a faith on me, or when people use a science build computer to tell people how wrong science is. Other than that you could prey to your toaster for all I care.

  • Thank you! I agree completely. Somehow, God's message of mercy gets lost on me every time someone tells me I'll burn in hell for eternity simply for coming to a different conclusion when presented with the evidence.

  • I'd like to say I too am a Christian and also agree w/ your stance here. You're not alone.

    Duke

  • As an Atheist, you did a fine job of representing me. Good work!

I've been an Atheist all my life, my parents are also Atheist, though they never told me they were Atheists until I was well out of my teens (they just never spoke of religion or god).

I've grown some hate for religion recently, after losing my son to Christianity, and even more recently losing a girlfriend of 3 years to Christianity. I also have a friend who is a creationist (6,000 y.o. earth, etc), which really gets to me.

  • 5 stars from an anti-theist who would probably be merely atheist if all religious folk were like you.
