Bloodbath is a good band, but I'd have to say that most plain old death metal is garbage. Every now and again you come across a really good band that if they wanted to call themselves prog. or tech death they could easily but most of it is just kind of rambled together and speed and lacks the emotion that prog. death metal has.
I say both genres are good..however, today there is flood of "brutal" or technical bands and most of them are soulless shit that don't come near bloodbath's quality

The drum tone as well as the guitar tone are cold in order to match the theme of the album which is about aliens and space.(Reptilians!) That particular part is given soul by the guitar. Incredible syncopated rhythm with a melodic lead.

Whenever I listen to Necrophagist I feel his playing. In the end it's all subjective though.

Bloodbath is a good band, but I'd have to say that most plain old death metal is garbage. Every now and again you come across a really good band that if they wanted to call themselves prog. or tech death they could easily but most of it is just kind of rambled together and speed and lacks the emotion that prog. death metal has.

I find way more emotion in an old school death, like Immolation than a band like the Faceless. The drum tone on that song you mentioned sounds sterile and takes away any soul imo. However, if you want to call a band like Atheist or Edge of Sanity Prog...then I'd agree

The drum tone as well as the guitar tone are cold in order to match the theme of the album which is about aliens and space.(Reptilians!) That particular part is given soul by the guitar. Incredible syncopated rhythm with a melodic lead.

@blindguardian187 I didn't compare anything, I was just saying that people who are at that level have to put a lot of emotion into their playing based on the fact that it take many years to get to where they are. A lot of guitarist don't need to play 22 notes a second to portray emotion into their playing, but, just because someone does play 22 notes per second doesn't mean it is emotionless. Whenever I listen to Necrophagist I feel his playing. In the end it's all subjective though.
