very very .... VERY good job man!! that is freaking amazing how you move your whole phalanx around-which is very heavy and inflexible... just like a line of roman legionaries. and you have beaten the totally superior enemy phalanx with your unfavorable historical phalanx which is again xD soo epic!! man you really got it, you are THE master of masters xDD
I studied Hannibal and you fought this battle almost exactly like Hannibal fought the battle of Trebia. Inferior troops and numbers, but used the element of surprise and the Numidians. SICK
So anyway the point of this commenting is that Carthages historical troops are underpowered. Sacred Band are semi feasible troops for Carthage. Carthage did hire greek troops sometimes and this would have been hoplite troops. Lybian spearmen and Poeni spearmen in real life were very tough very well trained troops. Also Numidian cavalry was also very well trained cav. They were very light cav but the could outride almost anyone.
There was a Sacred Band in Carthage. They were wealthy youth of nobility trained young to be Hoplite type soldiers. So Sacred Band is feasible for Carthage just not common place in their armies. Most Carthaginian armies would have been mercs but Carthaginian citizens often served as cavalry troops and officers.
Also Carthage would definately have had access to archers. This is another failing the game gives to carthage that should be rectified. Syrian Archers would have been available to hire for the use of Carthage. That is one thing most people may not know about carthage. Almost their whole army was mercenaries. They were high quality troops and tough in battle. Why do you think Hannibal was able to beat the Romans while out numbered so many times?
Nice use of a historical Carthaginian Army. I hate though how the game under powered the Iberian infantry. Iberians weren't elite by any means, but they could hold their own against hastati or princpes. Most of the time Hannibal was out numbered so his Iberian type infantry couldn't stand against the Romans directly. It wasn't necesarily due to quality though.
probably Alexander would win .I mean Hanibal was a good comander in open field...but he was a much better ambusher...almos all his grat victorys were well planed ambushes.Alexander would probably take him out.
i think he is the KING lol u wonna fight the KINGofCathage i dont play online yet as i dono how XD lol but ive played with my friends by connectin computers and a pro with carthage POM id kick ur arse lol
Extremely impressive fight, the way you hid that portion of your cav and struck the manoevuring companion cavs was awesome, always keeping the numerical advantage in every part of the battle. Awesome micro with those phalanx units also dude! 5/5
Im just curious, did armies of around this era fight in armour and use weapons like they do in this game? or is it exagerated, for example the ranks/lines they use, the colours/clothing, would battles look like this back then only on a larger scale?
This is a videogame BASED on fact, but it's not an accurate portray of fact. Some of the armor is right, but some of it isn't. Too general of a question, man.
i was suprised a lot when they came out of the woods but i still almost pulled it off. I made the mistake of chasing his cavalry when i shud have taken otu the infantry force =p
What do you think about Hannibal? Some people are low enough to call him a "one trick pony" or a "strategic idiot", even saying that he should have never made the Alpine march.
He was good, but he was indeed one-dimensional. He fought against an opponent who never changed his tactics, and who had an army deficient of cavalry. It's no wonder that he lost several siege battles. Also, the one time that he fought against an opponent without a cavalry advantage, he lost (Zama). He also lost a naval battle for the Successors. He was good, but he looked extra-good because of the poor opposition he fought against.
Wasn't he always also plagued by bad luck at crucial moments? Alexander and Caesar, on the other hand, seems to always have fortune on their side. Not that take anything away from their greatness, just that chance had a great part to play in everyone's success.
Hannibal's infamous elephants were useless eventually. They won him many battles but eventually the romans learned to part their phalanx to let the elephants through the gap. Then the legionairres would spear the trapped elephants to death.
you cant say that Hannibal was just good :).One-dimensional, even worse:)). He is one of the greatest generals in history, only Alexander and Caesar(in his time period)can be compared to him, and "de gustibus non est disputandum".
I would only like to point out few arguments, Hannibal-Alexander in comparison, not in any way trying to disrespect Alexander(but since you seem to know much about him..)
1.)Alexander commanded macedon army as a macedon king, so he had has troops loyal to him not only becouse his personal valor but also becouse of his bloodline.
Hannibal had army consisted of carthaginians,celto-iberians,gauls,numidians,greeks.. and only his personal authority to keept them thogether. His army never had a mutiny unlike Alexanders.
2.)You said that Hannibal had lame opponents, but did you ever considered that he made them look bad?
Scipio brothers did far better in Iberia against Hasdrubal and Hanno..And you cant say that Nero or Fabius were week opponents. On the other hand, Darius was no military genius.
3.)Hann.had inferior(quality) army than the romans, Alexander had superior army than the persians. Except Immortals and eastern heavy cav they had little to show beside numbers. I supose we all know how powerfull was the roman army
4.)at the time of Alex.attacak persia was for sime time in decline,Romas were on the rise. After victory over Hann.they didnt have a good opponent and took over Mediteranian relatively easy, ashaming macedon and seleucid army(but that werent armys as good as alex.-not to think that im trying to imply that they would won that easy or even won in the battle with alex.phalanx)
hey how do you play medieval 2 without it freezing every second? cause apparently you just said you comp sucks. mines alright but it lags every second.

hello prince of Macedon, I have seen many of your battles and I would like to give my opinion I think that a bug you have and if it would be best resolved at least three best players in the Rome total war believe that the use of cavalry and archers as we say here in Spain "de puta madre" but with the Infantry are good but could be better if you used tactics more complicated because they usually do not greatly complicated the infateria at least that is what I find.
I have no clue what you're saying. All I can understand is that you're saying I use simple tactics? If so, then you better prepare yourself for a mental beatdown.

I am not such a big fan of the battle aspect, when it comes to custom games. (I prefer a slaughter).
I prefer to actually play the game, though I use cheats, cause I'm VERY impatient.
Though, because of my knowledge of Tactics, and Strategies, I do think I can beat you. (though I have little incentive to try, as I am fairly lazy gamer)
He wasn't guiding my army. He was being pessimistic. Initially, I thought he saw something that I didn't, but it was just him panicking. Luckily, I stuck with the gameplan (that I set), and we won because of it. I'm the one who said bring the anti-cav infantry, and use them to beat his cav in the end. And that's exactly what happened.
Furthermore, I'm one of the top players online. I wouldn't lose to you. You're just a Campaign-Only Player who has to use Cheats to win.
Prince wud own u. u r just a cheating campaign player. tactics don't win battles in RTW manuvering does. if he hadn't got his phanlanx out of the way of mine i could have rolled right on through. i made a mistake with my cav which lost the attle. if he had just followed tactics i would have steamrolled him. Prince has tactics and micro thats why he wins. tactics aren't enough to beat prince! u sound like JOMEN lol
If you have to cheat in campaign mode then you would get your ass handed to you by Prince. The random crap that happens in campaign mode is meant to help you do things like manuever and micro better and, more importantly, have you make the best of what you got. Campaigns would be boring if you got the elite units from the start.
Wow, old news...I've been playing for more than a month now. You can see that from the battle #'s. I label all of my battles. When I said I stopped playing, I was in the 1,200's. As you can see, I'm already in the 1,300's which means these are new.
Keep in mind that I'm not playing as often as I used to.
Please stop asking me questions more than once. This is the 2nd question you've asked me where I responded twice already, and yet you're still here asking the same question.
nice battle prince,i am really impressed,i award you with the title SHAMRAT(king of kings in my native language)is usually refered to a king who has defeated atleast ten kings.if these battles were real by now u would have been the ruler of atleast 1/3 of the world..great video
Hm. Interesting tactic. Personally, I probably would have put the Sacred Band on the wings and the Iberians in the center, but your strategy worked out in the end. One of the things I find more interesting about your videos is that you talk about stuff in the background. In other people's videos, you just watch random men slug it out and have no idea what's going on.
The initial deployment didn't matter because I moved everything once the battle started to break the enemy's phalanx. Also, you shouldn't expect your Iberians to fight in a centre-role against Pikes. They'll die really fast. That's why it didn't matter where I deployed them. I was going to move regardless.
Out of all of your battles I think that I may have enjoyed this one the most. It was really quite amazing to see you win the battle against superior troops, that you honestly should have lost, by using a combination of surprise and flexibility. Bravo good sir bravo
Unless I missed a few accidentally I have watched all of your videos with voice commentaries. I have also watched several of your forays into other games although I do prefer your TW series games.
I really enjoy your commentary. It is very good. The high quality option makes videos worth watching too. You are one of the few people who I find really worth watching for TW games on Youtube.
In addition to that your attitude (read: not an ass) really impressed me too. Thanks for the videos.
Thank you, Tempest, for your comment. I respect my opponents if they are civilized. But trash-talking gamers who disrespect others get no respect from me. So I won't be so kind to gamers who don't act like humans.
That's why I first said it should work if Medieval II worked.
You need to register for an account at gamespyid
And if you've never typed in your CD-Key, then you're screwed. Because in order to type in the CD-Key for Medieval II, you need to re-install the game (which you can't).
i bought this game cause of you, your a real good player you know that.

Is Medieval 2 better then this? or is Rome total war better?
AceOfSpades780 3 years ago
Depends on your period prefrence. M2 is newer, but both games are great. Personaly i prefer Rome. :)
igor438 3 years ago
Please stop asking me questions more than once. This is the 2nd question you've asked me where I responded twice already, and yet you're still here asking the same question.

Thanks, man ;)
By the way, I have several ambush battles.
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
great game ;)
is it me or is it satisfying to see an enemy standard bearer die?
RTWXilef 3 years ago
The proud macedonian standard falls!
nhunter713 3 years ago
I rarely see it for some reason lol
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
Great battle man! I was just wondering, is there any battle wich you have uploaded to Youtube that you have actually lost?
OtakuPraetorius 3 years ago
Yes, actually, I have quite a few losses posted. The reason you don't see many losses is because I don't lose often.
I'm the real thing - I don't fake my videos.
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
What recording software do you use?
Great vid 5/5
Check out my rtw vids

Thanks, man, I use FRAPS. And I'll check out your vids in a bit.
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
That surprise attack in the back of his companions worked better then I would have thought possible. Good Video
Kippenbestaan 3 years ago
Thanks, man, it was thrilling just waiting to see if the ambush would work or not.

nice battle prince,i am really impressed,i award you with the title SHAMRAT(king of kings in my native language)is usually refered to a king who has defeated atleast ten kings.if these battles were real by now u would have been the ruler of atleast 1/3 of the world..great video
saruhagu 3 years ago
Thank you, friend, for the title. ;)
And what is your native language if I might ask?
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago

In most of ur battles you always look down, but in the end its you who reigns supreme
AceOfSpades780 3 years ago
You mean I look depressed? lol
Anyway, thanks for the comment
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
Worded that wrong, i meant to say the odds look against you
AceOfSpades780 3 years ago
Oh, I see. Good, because I wasn't depressed lol
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
LionOfCarthage 3 years ago
The initial deployment didn't matter because I moved everything once the battle started to break the enemy's phalanx. Also, you shouldn't expect your Iberians to fight in a centre-role against Pikes. They'll die really fast. That's why it didn't matter where I deployed them. I was going to move regardless.

i love the hannibal accuracey... the ambush and troop selection. hes one of my favorited generals of that time.
keep the videos up, they rock!
eggyspartan569 3 years ago
Thanks, man, I'm glad you enjoy Military History as well =)
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
Out of all of your battles I think that I may have enjoyed this one the most. It was really quite amazing to see you win the battle against superior troops, that you honestly should have lost, by using a combination of surprise and flexibility. Bravo good sir bravo
tempestswordsman 3 years ago
Thanks, man, I appreciate that.
And have already watched all 160+ of my videos? If so, then I'll be uploading my next video in 2 days. Thanks again.
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
Unless I missed a few accidentally I have watched all of your videos with voice commentaries. I have also watched several of your forays into other games although I do prefer your TW series games.
I really enjoy your commentary. It is very good. The high quality option makes videos worth watching too. You are one of the few people who I find really worth watching for TW games on Youtube.
In addition to that your attitude (read: not an ass) really impressed me too. Thanks for the videos.
tempestswordsman 3 years ago
Thank you, Tempest, for your comment. I respect my opponents if they are civilized. But trash-talking gamers who disrespect others get no respect from me. So I won't be so kind to gamers who don't act like humans.
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
good game very well done micro with the inftray i wish i can see the infantry part that would be more exiting :(
babaganabal 3 years ago
Well, I tried to show every aspect of the battle, but I focused on the ambush because that was one of the trademarks of Hannibal.
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
well i still get the case for medieval 2 would the cd key be there?
timrockslol 3 years ago
It would be either on your manual or a separate piece of paper. It will CLEARLY say "CD-Key" so there won't be an issue of what the CD-Key is.
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
well iv never played medieval 2 online because i lost the disk, is that why its not working because i never played it on that version
timrockslol 3 years ago
That's why I first said it should work if Medieval II worked.
You need to register for an account at gamespyid
And if you've never typed in your CD-Key, then you're screwed. Because in order to type in the CD-Key for Medieval II, you need to re-install the game (which you can't).
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
Your too gd, one question i have the kingdoms expansion but i cant go online for sum reason but i made my account with game spy, whats up with that?
timrockslol 3 years ago
Thanks, man. Also, Kingdoms uses the same exact CD-Key as Medieval II. So there shouldn't be a problem.
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
well when i try to connect it just wont let me, i put in the cd but just wont work! lol
timrockslol 3 years ago
But you've never had trouble connecting with Medieval II? Just with Kingdoms?
PrinceofMacedon 3 years ago
Patman, when i go on youtube, that's the ONLY thing i look for. I like watching Princes videos more then playing the game.
