What a wonderful character!! She was black and powerful and bitchy and starring in a ABC primetime series!! (a big straight "fuck" to racist bumkins!) She was a wonderful woman and actress (she still is!). 80's were not so far from 60's, when black people had no rights in America... "Dynasty" seems to be just a camp vintage soap, but it burst so many reinforced door... For all minorities.
Diahann Carroll a woman like none other. Poise, grace, not to mention an abundance of elegance and strength. A role model on how to carry ones self with dignity and self respect. Ms Carroll's character of Julia being the first African American and female leading role, was mesmerizing at that time and was a show that presented black Americans in a positive un stereotypical manner that was refreshing and prolific. Thank you Ms Carroll.
Diahann Carrol was and is gorgeous. She still looks fantastic in 2011, all this and a great singing voice. Her legs even in her 70's are better than those of most 20 something year olds
Too bad we PSM and DC never got to interact a whole lot, they would have had some great chemistry. But that scene with Alexis and Dominique was pure gold. 2 divas clashing together, tearing each other apart without having to throw a single punch...and Alexis losing her cool only when Dominique insults her champagne and caviar! lol
Also, what the hell was Alexis wearing? Those flowers on her back looked more like fungi growth,,,
You do a beautiful job of editing, LB. Your love of the show really comes through in your attention to detail and the care that you take to do this. 'Fame' is an excellent touch. These are some of Dynasty's finest moments and you have represented them so well. Much appreciation!
LBColby THANK YOU for these videos. I was a Dynasty fool. and so into Dominique Deveraux as a young black gay boy. For whatever can be said about Dynasty's cheesiness and superficiality, at least Spelling was was willing to throw a black (even half) character into the mix..
Thanks for creating this tribute to Dominique/Diahann Carroll. I've never actually seen episodes of Dynasty until I saw your channel. Thoroughly enjoying it.
"Could've been Rome. I've had "chic little places" in all three.
It was all the more dynamic, as there had never been a truly wealthy African-American woman portrayed in any television series. It is especially impactful because her wealth isn't attached to a man.
@iknowdasright Just think, this episode is nearlhy around 25 years old. Still, it is hard to find a TV character today that is a wealthy, intelligent & beautiful African-American woman. Not that their are none, quite the contrary. There are many gorgeous African-American women. Halle Berry, Vivica Fox, Tyra Banks are just a few. However, it is my opinion that none are as beautiful as the timeless Diahn Carrol. She looked great when starring in "Julia" in the '60s, & looks even better here!
@redletter2008 Hi. You are so right. I think the thing with Diahann is that she has always been such an 'elegant and glamorous beauty'. She is also naturally beautiful, but I can't think of anyone like that (elegant and glamorous) now.
OMG was somebody reading my mind? I was hoping someone would have the good sense to upload this. And you did. Thanks a bunch!!!!!!!!!! This is great stuff. They just don't make shows like Dynasty anymore or characters of this caliber like they used to. Damn, damn, damn.
I KNOW that's RIGHT, Miss Dominique! "I don't Sleep IN my clothes, nor do I sleep with them." Everybody GAGGED when she stepped in the hotel! She is NOT to be played with. ^_^
Interesting that Dominique was introduced to the series through the "about to check-out" Fallon at a hotel counter no less.... Out with the PSM - in with the DC :-))
Too bad that the New Fallon never shared a scene with Dominique right before she "checked out". Then again, ES was so pale in comparison...
Dominique is sassy, classy and in a zone all her own. I love the way she handles the local trash. Alexis! They should bring this back on TV. Real night time drama with class!
Ms. Carroll's role ultimately wasn't used to its full potential on Dynasty. However the show was definitely enriched by the addition of her character. No one else could go toe-to-to with Alexis as Dominique. Thanks for posting these videos!
@nadavno i think it was ans suited perfectly for Alexis....who was one of the richest bithces in denver...."you were not invited i sent for you" she was marking her teritory letting dominique know who was in charge right from the gat...this was a classic scene...well written, directed and acted....could have only been written by someone gay...the scene reeps of shade throughout!!
Special order in the US during the early 80s. The Beverly Hills store probably had a couple pieces on hand..but this many pieces would have to be brought in.
As much as I respected Diahann Carroll as a pioneer in the television industry, I always thought Dominique was a pointless and underused character.
Her relationship with Jonathan Lake was the only time when I thought, "Now, we're getting somewhere", because as a suitor, he was her equal, if not more.
They gave her the goods but somehow held back on the delivery. But, she made good eye candy.
There! I've said it!. Now I can burn in soap opera hell for offending the Gods of Frivolity. lol
I've always loved Dominique's arrival to the show. She was a great addition with many memorable lines in the late 4th/5th season.
The initial meeting in Alexis' penthouse just sums up all that is fabulous about Dynasty. The bitchery, the opulent trappings, and crackling campy dialogue. Probably my favorite scene of the entire series.

Don't you think that the Alexis' answer was a bit racist?
