  • Thank you so much for posting this video!

I've always hated how long it took for the mink oil to absorb and how it never absorbed deep enough.

All of my boots are getting this treatment technique now ;)

I'm going to try coconut oil on my extra dry Belleville ICW boots in a moment simply because coconut oil is rather thick and very high in saturated fat.

Again, thank you for the preheat idea.

  • Thanks for the video! I've never applied mink oil before and wanted to make sure I see it in action before I ruin my boots. :P

  • How many minks died for those ugly boots?!

  • @GeezusCometh

What ever happened to the art of trolling? The good trolls used to start out slow then build and build until it became obvious.

  • Heat

  • I've always heard the heart from the oven can weaken the glue on the seams of the boots thus resulting in leaks..Not sure if this true

  • Hello, Do you know if this will stop my squeaky Carolina work boots???

  • @HurricanexGame I have not used it on squeaky boots, it would be interesting to hear the results.

  • I got a real old pair of nam boots that my dad had that i've been trying to restore. I've debated on the oven technique but there is alot of nylon that might melt.

  • @lustercowx

The oven is incidental, it's all about warming the leather so it absorbs the warmed oil. I have only used this method on newer boots, YMMV.

  • I didnt have much luck with cold mink oil and cold boots either, I am really glad to have found your video.

  • Just used your vid to do my boots ..thx

  • What about larger items that won't fit nicely in the oven such as leather motorcycle saddle bags? Suppose I could just heat the oil & take a hair dryer or something to the bags?

  • oh.so he melted the whole mink oil? so wat bout the leftover?still can be used next time right? =)

  • oil is good for the leather but what you need to do is seal the thread seams. Water and moisture will eventually seep into the sole construction and deteriorate the boot. Sealant or melted wax, like wax for a toilet bowl seal, will do both, seal the seam and waterproof the leather.

  • Thanks so much for making this video! I had the same problem of a sticky slimy mess when I tried to apply mink oil to my favorite leather jacket. Now I know heat is the key!

  • Glad you liked it, thanks for the kind words.

    :)

  • Great video! Short, to-the-point, good lighting and camera work, good editing. Voiceover is great, perfectly distilled down, and not a bit annoying. I suspect this just comes naturally to you, but it is much appreciated, and is sorely lacking across youtube. You should teach a class online, LOL! Keep it up.
