Uhmm no not impressed at all. Some kind of smokey club feel to her voice. She does not set herself apart enough to distinguish who she is. If iIheard her on the the radio wouldn't be able to tell you who she is. Just my view.

Besides, covers are always hit or miss...sometimes justice can be done, other times not.

...but on a whole Osborne is an incredible artist.

I would agree though, that in this recording...it isn't something spectacular taking place.

the thing about joan osborne is she does so many covers, that it always draws comparisons to the original version.

she can sing, for sure. but most of the time she comes up short. and this song really proves my point. there is just nothing behind that very nice voice.

In some ways it is a damming indictment of how far black music has fallen when we had real soul singers and we now have crappy and horrible R&B and Rep music. Thank god for class like Joan who brings the soul back to all our lives. This is truly blinding stuff and shows that we can all have soul in our lives and so respect and love to you all.

It's been a long, long time since I've heard a singer I enjoy listening to as much as I do Joan Osborne, and I've heard a lot of singers. I love the soul she puts into a song. Where so many other singers are just singing notes, Joan tells a story every time she sings and really puts herself into her music. Where too many singers are just poseurs, she's the real deal.

I have the Funk Bros DVD featuring her and I never get tired of watching Joan and the FB sharing the love.
