  • no truer words were spoken, hammer on the nail.

  • Woaw.! i gottaa sing this solo in my music exam, and omg! you sing this amazingg :)!x

  • Pretty good for live at a "Barnes & Noble" bookstore. For me the voice and interpretation still come through, even with the muffled acoustics of this venue. Joanny, I love your music.

  • Great!

  • All in all this woman has a gifted voice, Joan I play your music alot, it is much appreciated, God Bless you little lady

  • Jimmy Webb wouldn't give a fuck about how she sings it, as he didn't write it, Jim Weatherley did, you goon..

  • ammazza quant'e' carina

  • This Sucks!!!!

  • Poor Jimmy Webb would be disappointed to hear his great lyrics and music treated so lifelessly by Joan Osborne.

  • Uhmm no not impressed at all. Some kind of smokey club feel to her voice. She does not set herself apart enough to distinguish who she is. If iIheard her on the the radio wouldn't be able to tell you who she is. Just my view.

  • @galgo3303

Then you haven't actually bothered to listen to her, anyone who makes an uniformed opinion based on one song...just likes to see there lacking opinions in print. ; )

  • @Asuigeneris1 I have heard some of here other songs. They sound pretty dam good, But not this one in particular. I mean she has not taken it away from the original artist and made it her own. Just the actual message I was trying to convey.

  • @galgo3303

...but an artist can't be blamed for someone's crappy live recording really.

Besides, covers are always hit or miss...sometimes justice can be done, other times not.

...but on a whole Osborne is an incredible artist.

I would agree though, that in this recording...it isn't something spectacular taking place.

  • Just reading some of the posts left and I noticed our friend jonWayn70 wasn't to impressed. Let's remember, she's in the middle of a book store, not much of a venue for quality of sound.

  • Great to look at , but she does no justice to this song at all. Well, not after knowing Gladys Knight's version (original)

  • oh Lordy, another fantastic Joan performance. I would hang around bookstores a lot more if more of them had Joan playing a set.

  • All you have to do is look at Joan Osborne performing a song to see the passion and conviction she puts into it. Also, her voice just burrows its way into your head and you can't get it out....ever!

  • Is Joan Osborne a "single" lady?

  • @drunkskunk005 nope, married mother

  • the place seems a hall... lucky people that was walking at same time of the jam ses

Joan, come with me in vacations!

  • the thing about joan osborne is she does so many covers, that it always draws comparisons to the original version.

she can sing, for sure. but most of the time she comes up short. and this song really proves my point. there is just nothing behind that very nice voice.

  • @oranger2525 hahahaha

  • Wish she'd come to Barnes & Noble in Totowa, NJ

  • I so want to marry her.She is beautiful.

  • She has kind of a Kate Hudson thing going on. Except that she's talented.

  • I wanna do her!!!

  • Happy New Year 2010 to all

  • I want to root her.

  • I saw her with Phil Lesh and Friends in Tampa...basically the Grateful Dead. She was unbelievable.

  • I would love to see her tackle some Janis Joplin. I believe she would do an awesome job:0

  • @mikehouston1 agreed!

  • @mikehouston1 Believe it or not PINK does a fantastic job singing Janis Joplin music...In saying that, if a real movie was ever made about Joplins life I would love to see OSBORNE play her!

  • Joan has a voice that is simply devine. Great performance on a classic song.

  • She does make it look spontaneous, natural and effortless... there's a lot of talent within the range of her voice...it's a gift.

  • It doesn't get any better!!!!! Thanks Joan. This is beautiful

  • Joan Osborne is a fantastic performer and exudes a classiness that few have!

  • It's been a long, long time since I've heard a singer I enjoy listening to as much as I do Joan Osborne, and I've heard a lot of singers. I love the soul she puts into a song. Where so many other singers are just singing notes, Joan tells a story every time she sings and really puts herself into her music. Where too many singers are just poseurs, she's the real deal.

I have the Funk Bros DVD featuring her and I never get tired of watching Joan and the FB sharing the love.

  • Totally agree with you including your comment about I never get tired of watching Joan and the FB sharing the love.

  • Same here,she's one rare talent...love her!

  • I would give anythign to have her come to anywhere near Cincinnati. I get lost in her voice

  • I am a Cincinnati Fan too and would love to see her again in person.

  • Is the Detroit area too far? She going to be there on Nov. 7, 2009 @ 8:00pm

  • @javadude54 true

  • This reminds me why I've spent the last fifteen years wondering how such an amazing performer didn't become the biggest thing on planet earth for at least five or ten years.

  • She makes it look soooo easy. If she was born in the 40s, she'd have been an amazing Motown artist in the 60s.

  • Crazy Train Vs Midnight train- who woulda win? lol

  • Midnight Special?

  • Is this the same woman that sang that song"What if God Smoked Cannabis?"

  • yeah, but dont let that put you off, she can really sing, look up her and the funk brothers

  • Thanks for sharing. When was this?

  • Shes cool together with Mellisa Etheridge and Linda Perry hell so good.

  • joelok48 - I sure do envy you that experience. A guy could die happy...

  • Moments like this are PRICELESS. Reminds me of a Saturday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale when I walked into a Borders store just in time to hear C. Lauper live doing an acoustic version of Time After Time. These are memories that can't be taken away...

  • wooo

  • damn this lady is getting better year by year, and she's been doing this for more than a decade~

  • morprotein, I love you!

  • nice rendition absolutely love it!!

  • thanks for sharing :)
