  • wonderful song!!! great in its simplicity

  • ppl says that this song is creppy

  • "I wish I knew how to break this spell."

    "Say, what's in this drink?"

    "The answer is no."

"At least I'm gonna say that I tried."

This song is about date rape. Just accept it.

  • Uma voz de veludo intemporal...... Bravo Dino

  • i have this convo with my bed in the morning

  • Time to get warm!

  • Am I the only one that thinks this is a Date Rape song?

  • @Bluecatts2 You're not the only one...

  • There are still "real men" in our society today and they act very gentleman-like; holding doors open for others, wearing suits to work, ect.... So I do not et your point with that. And how the hell does rape have anything to do with this song! It is about "playing coy and old romance" as you said but nothing to do with rape. If you think that than you understand nothing of respect, culture, and true integrity so why don't you just listen and enjoy the song. okay honey?

  • i like to just have a wonderful time reading little kids takes on things like good music i maen why look it up on youtube if your going to critisize it someone answer

  • I prefer Scrubs version :D

  • @HelloIamBarnsy Zach ad Donald are amazing singers :D :D

  • interesting. I was really starting to feel the softer side I guess my intentions hit a sore spot. I like Micheal bubles style better. A tone up and tone up is a good thing . Looooove. winks and cheerios

  • This song was recorded in an entirely different era. What these things mean today, were innocent back then. Its a shame that the world has come to this.

  • not sure if this song or "Let is Snow" is my fave Dino song.

If you love Dean and the Rat Pack, you should ck out this band in L.A. they have that cool vibe goin' on. you'l think you are back in the 60s.

    search

    cinnamon doll

  • Thumbs Up If Watching Zach Braff & Donald Faison's Version Made You Want To Come Here

  • Gotta love "Dino" & italian sausages for Christmas breakfast...

  • Please!! Someone PLEASE! Explain to me ANY corrilation between a wonderfully fun song and 'rape'! REALLY?? What are you people thinkin'??!!! Y'all who go there just have way too much time on yer hands!

  • @gypsydw Tell that to the feminist cunts who say these kind of songs are 'sexist'.

    watch?v=GpDnr2s9yxQ

You are right: those cows have too much time on their hands.

  • This song reminds me of me and my boyfriend, always trying to get me stay an extra hour. Doesn't make me think of "rape" at all; that's ridiculous.

  • What has been lost is basic intelligence.. "What's in this drink?" is just as validly 'more alcohol', and clearly used as an excuse. There are other things to English than just the words. If you get 'date rape' out of this, your grasp of what's going on is rather low. Might try reading more for about 10 or 20 years, then maybe come back to thinking where other people can see it..

  • Only idiots would use the word "rape" for this song. I'm going to continue to enjoy this song and so should you.

  • where are ppl getting rape from

  • @PrettyGirlSwag123216 Maybe not rape but very manipulative. The dude clearly wants in her pants :P It's just a joke... but to today's standards... everyone would assume the guy was trying to get some ass.

  • Is there a chance they were in Love ,and were following rules, but were fighting hard to follow rules? Jeese,,its a love song :)

  • i love this cat and mouse

  • its a story about a man and a women flirting together its not date rape...

Shes just making it out that shes hard to get so shes more wanted and date rape wasnt even thrown around like it is today

  • I will admit that i grew up in a different generation and that this song probably reflected normal social attitudes of the time, I will also say that thank god I did grow up in the 30's when this song was written. Today when someone says "no" it does not mean "convince me to say yes." it is really upsetting that it takes this guy alcohol and a possible date rape drug for her to say yes, especially when she knows she will lose her reputation for staying the night with him.

  • @samiam2088 lets not turn christmas tune 60 years old into the center of a gender debate, and just enjoy the season :)

  • @Izanguard1 thank you soooo much. I love this song, and it's not anything bad or whatever crap people are saying.

  • @Izanguard1 thank you so much. I love this song, and it's nothing bad or crap people say. (no offense meant to the people who said the crap, but still)

  • @samiam2088 come on get over yourself

  • @samiam2088

You are a complete idiot and quite possibly an asshole, as well. Pull your head out of your ass and get a clue. Does the music really give you the feeling that this song has anything to do with date rape?!?!?!? No wonder our world is so fucked-up. Your generation and it's twisted view on how things are, is what is destroying this once-great country. There was no such thing as a date-rape drug back when this song was written, you moron!

  • I LOVE Dean Martin, this is my all time favorite Christmas song.......(Rape?, ridiculous)

  • @Anni722 I didn't know you were into Dean Martin ;)

  • How is this rape? Obviously it's not...If it was rape, it would be a rap song.

  • Where the hell does anyone get rape from? Stop smoking whatever dope you're huffing on, morons.

This is a perfect song for a time when men were men, and women were ladies. And women were just as smart as they are today; only they played it so guys like Mr Cool would chase them whenever they wanted. Back then, women knew about romance; about how to make a man pine for them while keeping their self-respect and honor.

  • @icefire70 If she really wanted to keep her self respect and honor, she would have walked out the door and he would have taken "no" for an answer. This really shows the difference between that what was acceptable back then is totally unacceptable today.

  • @samiam2088

What an asshole thing to say.

  • @samiam2088 Ohhhh... I see. So songs like Ice T's Cop Killer are acceptable today; but a flirtatious song from a bygone era is not? By the way, the female singer's last words are "I really can't stay". To my mind, the flirt is over and she's outta there. Have a nice Christmas..

  • @icefire70 Please don;t put words in my mouth. I don't listen to wrap or hiphop for similar reasons that I find this song uncomfortable. No should mean no, it should not mean "convince me." Enjoying the song and recognizing that it is outdated, for very specific reasons, should not be mutually exclusive. Do you want your daughter, when she says "no" to have the question asked of her again and again until she relents?

  • @samiam2088 ** You and I have very different takes on this song; so arguing a moot point is a waste of our time. I like the song for nostalgic, romantic reasons. I don't see rape, or any malevolence in it. The times in which this song was popular, were quite different than today. A certain degree of innocence was inherent in our daily lives. There were no ulterior motives. Your points are valid in certain circumstances. I disagree that this song is one of those circumstances.

  • @samiam2088 just wondering, what question is asked in the song?

  • @samiam2088 So you've never been in a situation where you kind of know that you should go (bus time table, strict dad, exam the next day) but you don't really want to and the person you're dating is trying his best to tempt you and make you stay just a little bit longer? I truly pity you.

  • @Detomidine No means no, it does not mean "convince me to do otherwise." Enjoying the song for what it is is one thing, but not being critical of it, or realizing it is outdated is also not correct. My point is that this type interaction is outdated and inappropriate these days and should be noted as such (I made another comment which is not as blunt as this one).

  • @icefire70 Just remember my man, this is youtube. People don't come into the comments to educate themselves or to have intellectual conversations, they come to bandy about opinions. Many people these days don't understand things like respect, culture, or true integrity. So how can they understand playing coy, or old fashioned romance?

True gentlemen are hard to find these days, but so are true ladies. And it takes a lady to appreciate a gentlemen. Both are truly rare now.

  • @xenosoldier All points taken; albeit somewhat sadly. You are right, so much has been lost from past generations. I am typically at a loss to understand the markedly different perspectives that can turn imaginary '40's 'cool' into a felony. But, in the words of the immortal Chief Dan George, I shall "endeavor to persevere". Merry Christmas.

  • @xenosoldier

you need to get off your high horse. Your talking to a bunch of teenagers, and your memories are messed up, never in history did men or women act that way.

  • @xenosoldier true that

  • @xenosoldier I like what you said. You got a lot of class.

  • @icefire70 I originally commented "this song is about date rape" jokingly and people kind of ran with it.

even still, kids, remember what they tell you in your freshman year dorm orientations: no means no!

  • @icefire70 They get rape when she questions what's in her drink, and that he's so obsessed with her.

  • What a heartwarming song, despite the fact it completely makes me think rape is about to occur.

  • @TalkingMarshmellows God you are a moron.

  • This is music. Not that Glee shit.

  • /watch?v=DO8vD0ClzbE&ob=av2e <----GO NOW

  • Dino, the great. And great song. Nevertheless, on this one there is no match yet to James Taylor and Natalie Cole's version. Theirs feels like you're watching a romantic dialog from a romantic comedy.

  • beautiful very very very very. just perfect

  • Dean martin the best Jewish singer for christmas songs.

  • @XYtruck25 What does Jewish have to do with it? He was a great performer, period. No ethnic distinctions needed.

  • @XYtruck25 He was catholic...

  • @inzpireinc..... comedian, don rickles said the way you can tell if someone is jewish is if he has a big nose. The reason he said jewish people have big noses is so they can smell money.

  • @XYtruck25 Dino Paul Crocetti was not Jewish

  • @XYtruck25 he is Italian, you idiot!

  • @XYtruck25 Dean Martin was Italian. His former partner, Jerry Lewis, is Jewish.

  • @XYtruck25 Dean was catholic.

  • i love Elf...

  • great song great singer

  • Dino! da KING!

  • @NoamTube Please vote this up so people won't stop saying the same exact thing. It is not a song about date rape, as many have come to believe. It's the typical "cat and mouse" song common in the 1940s. The girl plays hard to get, and the guy convinces her to stick around to enjoy the rest of the evening. "Rape" wasn't thrown around in music back then like it is today.

  • @csabo07 wow !! learn sumthin new everyday... that's rediculous for people to try and turn this precious song into sumthing dark... leave it to sum damn ids to do it though!! so, yah, i'm definately with you on this one! catch ya later :)

  • @csabo07 HE SHOULDVE RAPED HER YOU FAGGOT

  • @AlxWantYourSoul flagged your channel :D

  • @csabo07

    Say, whats in this drink?

  • @AtheismCentral its an excuse for her to "try" and leave thats why she says it, god cant even pick up sarcasm in a simple song? People use it all the time on youtube. And it cant be about rape in case you missed the line "the welcome has been so nice and warm" <- what girl being rapped would say that? Its about romance- get over it.

  • @csabo07 I see this conversation in the song as sweet.... rape is cruel and evil..

  • @NoamTube This song isn't about rape are you stupid or something?

  • @mysteryman44441

She asks, "say what's in this drink?" This implies Dean laced her drink with roofies. He just ignores that question and tells her there's no cabs out there. She's constantly trying to get out, he keeps her in his home. He then attempts to get her drunk so she can't drive home and have his way with a lush. At the end he threatens her by saying she may catch pneumonia and die while thinking of an alibi himself. It's all right there.

  • @NoamTube or he poured her a drink without telling her what it is dumbass

  • can u do the instrumental plz

im tryna make a sick as hell physcotic eminem rap to this

    thx

  • Just had a nice parallel universe thought, about the world would be if the supressors didnt say all these natural chemicals that dont actuall hurt us are bad and illegal.. (Man made ones are mostly fucked up for us). No one saw others as different because colour was not an issue, we all have the same DNA and brain fuctions. Just think about how much different society would be if we were all able to unlock parts of our brain to allow the other sences and fuctions.. It was so much better there...

  • when you search "baby its cold outside", and dean martin isnt the first option... well thats just terrible.

  • I should really put another song on, 2 hours straight is probs long enough.

  • Thank you for sharing! Merry Christmas!

  • This song is the conversation that happens between me and my bed every morning.

  • @ClosestToTheSun HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

  • @ClosestToTheSun That is soo funny, I bet you've gotten a lot of replies...hahahaha!

  • @ClosestToTheSun Yes, I had that conversation with my bed this morning when Atlanta was down in the 30's. The bed won! I didn't even put up a fight.

  • @ClosestToTheSun lol! ur so funny! that was cute!

  • @ClosestToTheSun Comment of the year.

  • Thumbs up if elf brought you here :)

  • @salazam just watching elf now, which reminded me of this song....this song also makes me think of glee...^__^

  • Thumbs up if you think people who ask for thumps ups are attention seekers. =]

  • @JPierro364 then wouldnt tht make u one too?

  • I have always loved hearing Dean Martin's version of this song at Christmas time. Plus it's the best borderline date rape song I have ever heard.

  • Thank god for bad weather.

  • Thumbs up if you don't even know Glee and Mafia 2!

  • Hey, I have an idea. Why not just listen to it. I love this song, and Dino does it best, then Antebellum. It's a sexy, flirty song. Compared to some junk that is out there now, I don't know how anyone can say anything about this version.

  • Love it Love it Love it!!!! Gotta love Dino!!!!

  • I LOVE THIS :D

  • Get out! Don't look at me! Get out!

  • The best version of this song.

  • This song is from a different time and it is merely a flirtation by a man who is enjoying a woman's company. If you listen, she's agreeing by the end of the song. I believe that would be consent. Besides, Eminen and Rihanna give a much crazier spin on the whole dating thing.

  • @davebutt69 or, you could say, the song is about a guy trying to get laid in the winter. lol

  • @dirosaga Well, yeah, But It's not as creepy as these guys (girls) are making it out to be. Don't you know that in the fifties, all they did was hold hands a lot and then the stork brought them babies after they were properly married?

  • @davebutt69 haha ya eh. in that way maybe ur saying that this song was kinda rebellious for its time? (that is, unless, upon staying, he was going to marry her real fast and call for a stork lol)

  • It might be the creeper's Christmas Carol "What's in this drink?"

    But Dean sings it well.

  • always found it really weird and slightly creepy that he says "if you caught pneumonia and died" at 2:04 :-S

  • Does no one else notice that this is a date rape song! Really..."Say, what's in this drink?"!? "At least they'll say that I tried"!? I love the tune, but really...date rape promotion is what this song is!

  • @Jillianvision

The woman is saying "At least they'll say that I tried" meaning that they'll say "At least she tried to go home, but it was too harsh outside" and the drink part was referring to alcohol.

Why am I even trying, this is YouTube

  • @Donnerhosen Why am I even trying! This is YouTube.

It's the classic case of not taking "no" as an answer.

  • @Jillianvision

I wasn't disputing that, but the way you completely invent new meanings of what they're saying to support what you think

  • GLEE RUINS EVERY SONG...LEAVE IT TO THE ARTISTS WHO SANG IT...WHO KNOW HOW TO SING IT

  • I absolutely love this song; i made this into a Saxophone duet with an alto and a tenor, and a piano in the background it sounds absolutley amazing.

  • GLEEEEEEEEEE

  • I'm with you imyweirdo, just finished watching Elf and needed to hear The Great One - Our Dean belt it out!

    "Baby its called rohypnol."

  • i love dean sooooooooo much

  • 64 people should go outside to the cold.

  • Who's the female vocals on this recording? I've read it's the Andrews Sisters (unlikely... they don't sound like this), Doris Day... is it one lady but recorded over three times??

  • This is great…also wonderful is the Dolly Parton and Rod Stewart rendition.

Give it a listen you'll like.

  • I absolutely adore these kind of Cristmas songs, but I'm 28 and Italian so I didn't grew up with this (a part from the most famous ones like jingle Bells , Sleigh Ride, Deck the Halls etc.)

Could a lovely soul point me out to other gourgeous Christmas songs?

  • Thumbs up if buddy the elf brought you here. :P

  • Thumbs up the Glee Project brought you here Lindsay & Cameron

  • Doesn't matter really. But I don't know what Glee or Mafia 2 are.

  • @nesnejls Mafia 2 is an xbox 360 game

  • @Haza6000

    And PC too.

  • Nice and lovely song. He just wanna be with her and now a days the lyrics would be, "Yo bitch let me in, open ur legs cuz this nigga gonna stick his lolly in ur cave till the last drop of milkshake...." vakkin hell, I hate this type of music, gimme back the old days. more respect then in the present...

  • thumbs up if the glee project brought you here

  • @LaLaLandBarbie who watches that shit? Dean is awesome without Glee

  • @dragonz4eva thats what brought me here , jst sayin

  • @LaLaLandBarbie This was on the actual show WAY before the glee project

  • Why can't music still sound like this? I swear I was born in the wrong decade.

  • @angie342 I agree with ya 100%! They just don't make this kind of music anymore!!!!!!! *sigh* Happy we can go to YouTube to find it though!!!

  • @angie342: amen

  • thumbs up if the glee project brought you here.

  • Thumbs up if you just brought yourself here.
