I'm sorry but this is SCARY, the Nutcracker head, the guy, the way the fall, and the friggin candy people look like ZOMBIES.!!!!! And then she gets eatin at the end.!
@Fudgebegood Well, no, she didn't get eaten. The Nutcracker represents the story ending, and it is also how the stage looks when each act opens and closes. Besides, this was based on the book in general, which is a lot more darker than the traditional version of the ballet. I've read the book a few times, not a childrens' story. But this version of the ballet still manages to be wonderful, family-friendly, beautiful and captivating!
insiders tip: at 1:00 you'll note the presence of two stunt doubles (as evidenced by laughable form.) that particular moment is fleeting but actually involved a prolonged shoot. what we also don't see is that make-up artists applied putty to the bridge of the male stunt artist's nose because (prince) wade walthall's profile was rather...aquiline.
Looking back, the bookends of this film are quite scary... In the opening scene when Clara gets bit by the mouse and starts transforming, and then her falling out of the sky with a very scary looking nutcracker in the end... *MOUTH*!
Me too. We have Maurice Sendak to thank for the production design. I've got the book version where the big scary nutcracker face is one of the endpages, and it's just as startling.

Maurice Sendak will always be one of my favorite authors and illustrators, even if some of his designs disturb me...but why shouldn't they?

The interactions between Clara and the Prince in this scene are particularly romantic. Just see the way they look at each other; it's adorable!!

Yes, the ending of this freaky.
As is the realization that all of this seems to have taken place in Herr Drosselmeir's head.

The part where the nutcracker set piece chomps down always used to scare the crap out of me when I was a kid.

I also used to have a record of the Nutcracker Suite when I was a kid, and I had to run out of the room while someone was putting it on for me.

That castle/stage he made comes to life again and the dancers dance while the credits roll over them.
