Also, when I had baby hamsters, I touched them when they were like 2 days old and the mother didn't eat them... ( I was only like 9) and my next hamster had babies as well and the same cycle happened and she STILL didn't eat the babies... So it depends on how much you handled the mother and how comfortable she is with your scent. If your scent is all over the cage, and then it's on the baby, then it won't be any different and she won't care.
@erdet78 sigh, people are idiots... that only applies to newborn animals, you're not supposed to take them before the first time the mother gets to smell them. obviously you can touch the baby animal afterward, because the mother knows from that point it's her child. by your logic, humans would never be able to touch any young animal at the risk of the mother neglecting it which is ridiculous... you'd never be able to take a puppy to the vet, or pet a kitten, etc... things people do all the time
@skag3n66 hamsters are different if they feel threatned they eat theire own babies i did have over 37 hamphsters(not at one time) and the first babies i tok out of the cage and hold them but the mother wouldent accept the babies and left them and they starved! so stfu............
@erdet78 Yeah, like I said, if they are NEWBORNS, and you pick them up before the first chance she has to get their scent, then that will happen. If the mother has already had her first contact with them, it won't. Why don't YOU shut up and learn how to spell "hamster" and all the other words you effed up you dumb twelve year old little piece of shit
It is funny how the Hamster inside the wheel keeps poppin his head out... As if he is going to be somewhere else but he's still in the place!! "Are we there?? Wait no, Same place!"
I use to have two family of hamsters... they all passed away... one family of hamster's babies got eaten by the grandmother. hamster..when we moved them back to the "girl's house"............
It is recommended you wait two to three weeks before picking up hampster pups -so you do not risk the mother eating the pups. Mom will smell your sent only and may mistake the pup as food -this happens often. I would not risk it for it is heartbreaking to find mommie hampster eating the pups!
Wow, your hamsters are all not afraid of you... I find it really hard to make my hamsters not be afraid of me, cause i had past experience of hamster biting me ): I used to not be afraid of them!
That prbably wasn't easy... Oh, yeah... you seem to be a pro at hammies.... err... I'm gonna get a pet soon and I need some info... not from google.. err... wait a min, wait a min.. oh yeah! How much is the bedding? and is there a brand anyone can recommend? thanks in advance!
If the mother hamster fully trusts you its fine, I had hamsters for over 5 years and one of the moms even brought the newborns to my hand to watch, after some time she would come pick them up again. ^-^ If you have a hamster that fully trusts you and she knows your scent then its mostly safe to touch them. But never touch them if you aren't sure. indeed she could kill them then.
its fine to touch dwarf hamster babies at 2 - 3 weeks you tards. honestly if you get a hamster most people should know that. i learned that before i even got my dwarf male and im not even breeding. dont say shit out ur ass if you don't know please :D
People who are saying this is wrong should get a life! You can handle them if you are careful and the mother is ok with it. Never take a hamster though if the mother dosen't seem to want you to take it.
So cute and not...fluffy...I COULD DIE! And it won't die, that's actually a common misconception. Animals reject their young if they're sick (and that's why we shouldn't touch baby animals that have "fallen out of the nest"). I've rescued many baby birds, and the mother has taken them LL back, The have a tendency to fall into our window well while learning to fly and I have to pick them up to help them.
Animals will not reject their young because a human touched them. That is an old wives tale, like saying that you'll cramp up and die from eating and then swimming.
@TheImbaTroll it is how the baby smells after it was touched by a human. the mother won't accept it as her own baby - perhaps she will see a free meal in it :(
@Anggiclassicerz I read like 7 different articles on the Internet on baby hamsters, 70% of the content was stressing out the importance of leaving the mother and the babies alone. Thanks anyway.
@bouncyballblue I think your not suppose to touch them because your scent rubs off on the baby and then the mother kills them. but i'm not 100% sure on that
Dear people saying "UR SO STOOPID U DONT TUCH DEM UNTIL DEYRE 2 WKS OLD",

Somebody who has experience and didn't just google it.
@oopqooify so...since you know so much about that let me ask you a question. my hamster gave birth a few days ago and i wanna keep one. can i let them together in the same cage? most ppl say that i have to seperate them but i already have 3 so i can't have any more
@PEACE63641 It depends on the kind of hamster you have. If they're syrian hamsters, the babies need to be taken away from the mother when they're about 4 weeks old.
