Google "redstate letterman boycott" for a list of advertisers doing business with CBS, Worldwide Pants Incorporated, Late Show with David Letterman, and Rahal-Letterman Racing. One wonders whether or not any recipients of funds from Letterman's American Foundation for Courtesy and Grooming will protest the man's joke. Letterman's hesitant, explanation-filled, limited apology suggests that he had as key a role in creating the joke as his staff, and makes it clear that he regrets only that the wrong daughter was targetted. A true gentleman would neither have told such a joke, nor, having unfortunately told it, would he have delayed, for even a moment, a full apology.

That the media accepts this as an apology is evidence that unfortunate, low, and sexist humour is only acceptable when coming from the Left.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that in his decades on the radio Rush Limbaugh (AKA the big fat idiot - thank you Al Franken) has said his share of controversial comments at the expense of the democrats, and he's still on the radio isnt he?

People like Letterman have comedic license. Theres a reason their shows are on at Midnight, its so children and those who are easily offended can have a glass of prune juice, say the Rosary and tuck themselves into bed before their virgin ears are harmed.

i'm not sure that what is bothering people is that he even told the joke in the first place. I think what bothered me is that he-during his first apology- didn' REALLY apologize and in fact did not even acknowlege why people might be upset that his joke was perceived to have been intended for the 14 yr.old. He used the opportunity to just spit in the Palin's faces again. If he had said he was sorry the first time, I don't know that it would have bothered me.

IMO, the media and Sarah Palin overreacted. It's a joke, and as Letterman pointed out they never heard from Alex Rodriguez or Elliot Spitzer because it's not that big a deal.

Now, I feel biased because I had no idea that Palin had two daughters, or that the 14-year old was the one at the ball game. During the campaign, the only daughter I knew about was the one who got pregnant and Dave never said which daughter anyway.

If something is a joke, regardless of how good or bad the joke it was, it should mean nothing. Now if there were malicious feelings behind the joke, then you could argue it was something to be sorry about, but it was just a cheesy monologue joke.
