  • his last jam was at my uncles club.the tackeroo. ace guitarist, rest in peace, mel.

  • This was the best version of Whitesnake! Mel Galley and Mickey Moody slinging the guitars, Jon Lord on keys, Neil Murray on bass, and Cozy Powell on drums. Closely followed by the "Come n Get It line-up with Bernie marsden on guitar and Ian Paice on drums.

  • I always used to wonder if they overdubbed Mel's guitar onto Saints & Sinners. I know he did backing vocals while they kept Neil Murray's bass and Ian Paice's drums in the mix.

  • great.

  • Mel Galley is my favorite Whitesnake guitarist.. or was :S.

Closely followed by marsden/moody and vandenberg

but to me Galley was very special.. so great.. in trapeze as well

  • Sail on, Mel. You lived next door to my friend Lucy in Belsize Park, but we never met, and I never appreciated how brilliant a guitarist you were until later. This is a classic performance: understated, yet full of power and feeling. And you looked like you were having fun!

  • Perhaps he's jamming in Heaven with Cozy Powell.

  • Mel was overshadowed by "golden boy" John Sykes, but he could burn with the best of them. Cancer is a horrible disease, one that claimed my dad and mother-in-law. Farewell, Mel.

  • R.I.P Mel

  • Goodbye Mel.

  • Descansa en paz, Mel. Lamentamos tu partida, pero nos queda el consuelo de que ya debes estar en el cielo, haciendo ruido junto a Cozy y Ray Gillen.

  • Sadly Mel died today :( .....RIP Mel.

  • It was one of the greatest guitarist of Whitesnake of all times, im so sorry about Mel he is trully a master, all my hope is in you, god bless you Mel Galley.-

  • Mel, sorry to read about the news on your health, great turn out at your birthday party in Cannock, A great muso,

  • devastating news...my prayers go out to Mel and his family!

  • Actually, Stray, he is sampling Joe Walsh's Rocky Mountain Way. As for ZZ Top, I think it was the other way around. Billy Gibbons may have borrowed some flava from Mel. Trapeze was incredibly popular in Texas. A lot of guitarist paid attention to Mel's playing. Close attention.

  • One of the most original rock guitarists ever. Insanely talented. Trapeze were the ultimate 3-piece. Like everyone else, I'm reeling over the terrible news about Mel's illness, and I invite anyone who's so inclined to join a prayer chain. Just send healing vibes and focus on Mel. Miracles do happen, so let's try it.

  • Sorry to read about Mel. First heard him play on Trapeze album you are the music. Will be missed by all his family and all those who enjoyed his playing style.

  • Poor mel!

He is now suffering a terminal cancer:s

  • Mel Galley is one of the greates Hardrock-Guitarplayers on earth, all time he did a famous job (Whitesnake, Phenomena, Trapeze).

I´m very sad because yesterday I readed, that he´s be dying actually. He has an deadly tumor.

  • What a dumb comment to make consiering Mel's current condition. You may like John's playing/style, but if you can't say something positive here, then don't type anything at all please.

  • In response to person using Aynsley Dunbar's name: I was just stating facts. That you see them as negative must mean that you see them as being bad traits of Mel's. Please don't project on me. Also, his current condition is just that, CURRENT...note the date of my comment. To Mel, if you read this, no disease can live in a pure bloodstream. That's a fact. Purify your body with raw, organic foods (nothing cooked, artificial, etc.) and you can beat this! God bless.

  • this man is a very good friend of mine and his guitar playing is a meer shimmer of what a fantastic person he is and he is doing fine with new(ish) lol wife net love ya both

  • LEE of course xx

  • fABULOUS! Mel Galley is one of the Uks most underrated guitarists. His work with Trapeze was dripping with funky originality. Great to see this on here!

  • Memories of the Birmingham Odeon in '82.

Don't suppose DC will ever sanction a 'W'snake-live thru the years' DVD set..stranger things have surely happened off the Cumbrian Coast tho!

  • This man is awesome! Where can I download this video in wmv format or something like that???

  • With Trapeze he had a style that was very rhythmic and unique. No one else plays like that. Bravo Mel!

  • RIP cozy

  • this is great! where did you get this? I had no idea that this song written during this incarnation of the band, please tell me you have the rest of the song or any more!?!?

p.s. doesnt mel quote some zz top in there?

  • Thats all i could post but not all i have.

ZZ Top used to support Mel's band Trapeze back in the 1970's.

Check out both his and the Trapeze Myspace pages ;-)

  • @stray1957 Coverdale re-recorded a few other early tracks for the U.S.-released albums: this one, "Here I Go Again", "Fool For Your Loving", and I think there's a couple more I can't think of at the moment.

  • @stray1957 Alot of the songs on Whitesnake 87 we're written way before that album came out. The songs on that disc we're just pumped up versions show casing John Sykes guitar playing.

  • @saugusg16 To be fair, only two of the tunes on 1987 were not Coverdale/Sykes compositions. And of those two, only "Crying in the Rain" could (rightly) be called a "showcase" for Skyes.
