Step one should be,dont get a bike

Get a 4 1/2 foot length of heavy chain. put some kind of sleeve on it so it doesnt scratch your finish. the 4 and 1/2 foot length should be enough to go through your front wheel, frame, rear wheel and around a phone pole or whatever you lock your bike to. use the biggest lock you can buy. when you unlock it just hang it over your shoulder. after a while you'll get used to the weight.
