Oh man what a classic! I will still never forgive the "Video Gurus" of the old days who ALWAYS felt the need to zoom in on individual horn players or guard members moving around during the percussion breaks. My goodness! So much greatness not shown on the video! I can understand zooming out to catch an ensemble moment, a cool drill move, or something like that. But to show any isolated person, especially if they arent doing anything is just awful! Still a great vid to watch and listen to though.
My last year in Suncoast ( 95/ short season ) Two tenor player, and one of my bass brothers and I used to sing this solo in the showers before going to shows. It was out hype man. We ( 91 - 95 Suncoast members ) always had such a respect for " old " Suncoast that most of the " old " alums did not even know about.
I happen to be an alumni of Suncoast Sound. Marched with Rich Viano back then. Marched 1985-1987. Watching this clip brings back memories. And yes I was in the guard...Rifle. :-)
@mbrown052467 You guys were superb.Such an underrated drumline from the 80's.My high schools 1986 drum feature was 'cloudburst' ,based on S.S. 1985 show.Im not positive but I believe our percussion director,Steve Carter was with S.S. at sometime in the early 80s maybe before 85.
Yeah. I think he's second from the viewer's right in this vid. I understand he eventually became the drum captain, which doesn't surprise me. I looked up to that guy when we were in the bass line together. He had great chops. The last I heard, he was with Carolina Crown??
yeah we had a descent drumline. It was my last senior year and I arranged the pit from ear....was hard at the time since I had never did anything like that before school (College).

I love how back in the day, drum features in DCI were just raw and mad powerful chops in your face. Ahhh it's so amazing.

Does anyone have a copy of the cadence "Jungle Love" that they did in "86-"87?

I played in this line. That was a good time.

Cool. Wasn't Rich Viano on that line too? He was my snare tech when I marched Magic in 1992

Orion was a killer drum solo...Allen Murray had such style and groove. I love the choked cymbal punches throughout...neat stereophonic effect.

able to do that then, if you don't mind me asking, what do you do now?

That's not that long ago, I thought you would have said something like 70 or 80 something. :-)
Was your high school version comparable?

yeah we had a descent drumline. It was my last senior year and I arranged the pit from ear....was hard at the time since I had never did anything like that before school (College).
