  • "All that they've ever loved is dead"... even this song like right now. Barlow is very good at his own songs, Horror Show is there so you can confirm, but c'mon, this one is Ripper's like all the other FA songs.

I personally enjoy very much both of them, that's just my opinion.

  • Ripper is a good vocalist. But Barlow IS Iced Earth. Atleast to me Ripper could never get close.

  • This song was made for Ripper. He sounds better than Barlow here. Easily. More power.

  • They are two of my main influences and I can tell you from singer's standpoint, Ripper's style is more difficult and demanding. Oddly though at the end of this run live with Iced Earth you heard Barlow's voice fall off the deep end in a hurry. I think due to the stress of Ripper's range and high note power. However, as Stu said recently on facebook that Ripper as an unbelievable high mid range as well. In a nutshell Ripper wins in technique and Matt wins with his emotion. Both are BRILLIANT!

  • @megapurify Barlow is a great frontman and showman as well. So both of these great voices made us Iced Earth fans proud!

  • The vocal lines of this song is so amazing. Credits to the Ripper Owens.

  • He should have got the singer from Biomechanical. His vocal rage would be great for Iced Earth.........

  • Stu Block is their new singer

  • Barlow suits some songs more, so does the Ripper. In this case the Ripper wins hands down.

  • Whaaa? Did they re-release this cd with barlow on it!? where can I get this?!

  • o. o i always thought Matt's voice fitted something great and powerful, while Ripper's was sly and... slithering... o_O

what i like about the both is that they can get REALLY aggressive > o>...

  • Sucks ever since they got rid of the high pitched guy barlow adds a bunch of high pitched faggotry trying to imitate him.

  • shockingly, i like both versions of this song.

as a whole, i'd say that Ripper's vocals sound better for "Framing Armegeddon Part 1", that's ok; Barlow and Ripper simply are better for different styles of songs.

  • @jakenhsman

I agree and i have nothing against Ripper...

But for Part II i don't think Ripper would fit that...

  • I believe that Owens was for more war-centered themes..He gave the passion and the toughness of the soldier...

Barlow is more emotional. He fits better in religious themes or love songs. He can sing war songs,if the lyrics resemble sadness (The Clouding etc)

Personally,I prefer Barlow.Owens was a great singer, who really helped Iced Earth, but Matt is way better that every other vocalist of Iced Earth.

  • The songs in Framing Armaggedon were make for Ripper, as in The glorious bourden were made for Barlow, so both albums are not a fair comparation.

Indeed, they're different vocalist, you can't either compare Kiske to Dio, or Dickinson to Halford....

As a long time Iced Earth fan I preffer BARLOW singing, he's ICED EARTH'S VOICE, Ripper is a great singer, that's why Malmsteen picked him as his actual vocalist.

So let's just enjoy the fucking Heavy Metal \m/!!!!

  • the ripper is way better than this guy in my opinion

  • i like bananas

  • nice douet of barlow and owens, very nice!

  • This is probably IE's most Blind Guardian-esque song, with the prominent solo and the huge dynamic chorus. Would love to hear Demons & Wizards cover it. :-D

  • I think this version includes Owens in the vocals too.

  • The song sounds much more wicked with matt

  • There are some songs that Ripper fits better, but Barlow fits the band better.

I love Iced Earth so much!!! They rule! \m/

  • I always prefer Tim over Matt. I think both are excellent singers, but Tim sounds more evil than Matt on those high pitched howls that I love. Matt's voice is amazing too, but after while, I get tired of it. Still, the way he channels his emotion through the music is sublime.

  • @BoreanWolf Listen pls to Dante's Inferno song. Could you imagine on this song a high pitched owens voice?

This song for example just fits perfectly to barlow. Dark hellish low pitched voice. perfect for a hellish theme.

  • Well it's this simple for all of you.....Check out old Iced with Matt Barlow on vocals then listen to where Tim came in, there is no comparison, Matt is Iced Earth and that is saying nothing bad for Tim, it's just Iced isn't Tims gig....

  • yeah man i agree all the way

  • Tim Owens is a fucking great singer, and he shines the best on this album. Matt also shines on his part of the saga, and both are great singers. Get over it guys.

  • its stupid to discuss whos better vocal i mean Ripper helped the band stay alive through time your beloved Barlow abandondem and then peacefuly left once he decided to come back to band

ps i still think this song fits Owens more

  • ah *peacefully got fired!

  • No being fired would be like in Metallica dissing off Dave or Maidens kicked out Paul this was twosided he knew he couldnt stay forever and wanted a project of his own once the boy Barlow twisted his tail back and crawled to Shaffer.

  • Actually Schaffer was going to fire Tim regardless if Barlow came back or not, in fact he planned it before he even spoke to Matt. I wouldn't say that Barlow "crawled" back to schaffer, he wanted Barlow back, and Barlow just simply agreed!, even if he declined he said he would have searched for another singer.

so yes Tim WAS fired! ... Schaffer said he didn't like his live performance or something... he said he "lacked stage presence" .

  • Well i never saw Iced Earth live with Ripper so i wouldnt know XD seen him with Hail! was puting up a decent show

  • i saw him with iced earth in '07, and he ruled!, so i don't understand why Schaffer said he lacked in performance. I think he probably just missed matt or something!

  • @666JSchaffer666 From what I read a lot of fans were coming up to Jon and were saying they missed Matt. Jon admitted he felt that too. So when he heard Matt was singing for Pyramaze he asked Matt if he wanted to rejoin Iced Earth.

  • @666JSchaffer666 Actually, Schaffer let Barlow go when he said that Matt's vocals lacked the passion they were known for - this was after Matt wanted to leave due to beliefs of 9/11.

  • @666JSchaffer666 no it´s true Ripper just was standing at the monitor box and sing on the same place all the show- this sucks""!!! Matt is running over the stage and involve the peoples to the show. And Live he is a monster, absolutely great entertainer and he sings the ballads with much more emotions. I think Ripper just scream in the same notes all the time. It didn´t fit Iced Earth

  • @Nightcrawl6

Matt is good in the studio AND live. Tim used to be a good live singer, and I think he still is, but when he sung live with Iced Earth, he just didn't have it.

  • @666JSchaffer666

Both Matthew and Ripper are sort of fired...

Schaffer was wrighting songs (The Glorious Burden Album)

And he saw comming that Matthew voice didn't fit in the way Schaffer wanted on this Album...

Then Matthew came and said he wanted to be a police officer so they both agreed Matthew to leave.

When Schaffer start wrighting Framing Armageddon he found songs like The Clouding.

Schaffer knew Matthew was more a vocalist to do this songs. (Ore somebody with a lower voice)

  • matt left because he wanted to be a police officer... you should know what youre talking bout first. that is THE only reason barlow left

  • i know the whole supposed story about the 9/11 shocking him but acctually he left in first place since hes vocals werent as good as b4 for Schaffer btw he didnt take any vocal lessons like before 1996 or some year like that lol then he came back

  • im just saying in 2002-3 ish matt left to be a police officer. at first schaffer talked him into staying but when he heard barlow recording his vocals he could tell he didnt want to be there because it didnt sound like barlow normally does so schaffer let him go....thats the story straight from schaffer him self ... look it up

  • @laynestaley1990 Yeah, I heard that in one of his interviews. Right from his mouth.

  • @demolitionwolf91

Both Matthew and Ripper are sort of fired...

Schaffer was wrighting songs (The Glorious Burden Album)

And he saw comming that Matthew voice didn't fit in the way Schaffer wanted on this Album...

Then Matthew came and said he wanted to be a police officer so they both agreed Matthew to leave.

When Schaffer start wrighting Framing Armageddon he found songs like The Clouding.

Schaffer knew Matthew was more a vocalist to do this songs. (Ore somebody with a lower voice)

  • @demolitionwolf91

And about your: "once the boy Barlow twisted his tail back and crawled to Schaffer".

    Matthew never crawled back...

You should listen to Pyramaze with songs like Legacy in a Rhyme or Year of the Phoenix (Or that whole Album)

Matthew was doing great with Pyramaze.

Then Schaffer came to Matthew and they started talking about the both bands and how they wanted to go further.

Thats where Schaffer asked to Matthew to come back to Iced Earth.

  • @demolitionwolf91 Barlow left Iced Earth to works as a Cop. I dont think its fair to call him a boy

  • ps your your retarded.

  • the band could have literally done nothing in the time barlow left and came back. The albums with Tim suck. IMO the are the worst IE albums. Tim's voice isnt right for IE.

  • I would acctually agree with u cause i allways wished that Tim came back to Winters Bane and the whole IE never happened? But dude get a grip Tim made them a tad more polular mainly due to time he spend in Judas Priest but allso dont say they havent acomplished something with Tim cause they have only ur like any other fan off Barlow will say otherwise and frankly speaking there nothing wrong with that so behind this whole argument only stand us the stupid fans who like taking sides XD

  • @demolitionwolf91 actually, barlow was the one who proposed ripper as a replacement for himself if I'm not mistaken and Ripper knew he was just temporarily there.

  • @demolitionwolf91

First off the man has a family, so I understand why he left, and two, when he left, the band and the fans respected his choice to leave. I have all the respect in the world for the reson why he left Iced Earth.

  • I dunno, I think I'm the one in ten Iced Earth fan that likes Ripper's singing a little bit more than Barlow's. I'm not saying Barlow is a bad singer at all. He's a fucking kickass vocalist. I just liked Ripper's a bit more.

  • i dont know if he is better as a singer at music in whole.. but Matt Barlow is born to sing for Iced Earth...

  • i agree..u re fucking right. matt barlow is "the" voice for iced earth..too bad, ripper is also amazing in his own right but he could find "his" place yet. there are some ie songs that fits perfect to ripper as well..like the clouding.. but barlow is back and i cant be more happier unless they release a legendary album soon..

  • lol guys are you retarded ? just listen song how can you say fagg ripper is better then true legend matt barlow ? are you stupid or wtf just listen this voice and that stupid screaming by ripper i realy dont like it . matt kills ripper in any way true fans wanted matt to come back and shaffer inv him.. because he is best and only for iced earth btw i heard iced earth with matt and ripper live my friend too he like barlow more too .exactly same here barlow is god

  • Ripper is an incredible singer, but Barlow wins hands down.

  • its not even funny how much better matt barlow is than tim ripper owens

  • Riperr>>>Matt

  • This is good but i prefer Rippers voice in this song.....likely cuz im used to hearing Ripper sing it and not Barlow

  • tims vocals are better on this song barlows sounds weak

  • ya i can easily stand listening to barlow do ripper songs. but what is painful was hearing ripper try to do barlow songs. so i am honestly good w/ ripper being gone, and im thrilled for the fact barlow is back. IE forever

  • I think I prefer matt's version of this over ripper's...

  • Dude, ripper did the same thing when Barlow was first out. They each have their own songs.

  • thats your opinion because i think Matt sings this almost as great as ripper and i really preffer Barlow singing a charge to keep.

  • Sounds like Megatron singing.

  • I have to give Matt Barlow credit for the great work he has done on the previous Iced Earth records and all but I like the ripper's vocal style on the GB en FA and I would have to see a FA remake with Matt's vocals, I know it would be great but I've gotten so used to these riffs with Ownens his voice over them and I've seen him live with Iced earth last year and he did a very good job even live

  • hail satan! total clouding will be finished soon.

  • Matt Barlow is so much better.

  • The only time I want to hear Tim Owens do anything besides his screams was in Iced Earth. Whatever else he touches his voice just sounds bored.

  • as much as i love ripper owens, i do have to agree with you. Beyond fear and his new solo work is quite good, but his vocals on that stuff pales in comparison to anything he has done with iced earth. I've heard him moaning about schaffer pushing him too hard in iced earth when it comes to tracking the vocals, but the results are fuckin' amazing. His vocals in anything else but iced earth sound forced.

  • Solidsidious is right. Man is meant to be weapon dominant. However Setian are far more advanced, BUT peaceful

  • i know barlow is the singer for iced earth and a great singer, but ripper is a lot much better at this song.

  • Tim owens Can burn fuck his vocals his band beyond fear is great but he hasent made an album since but what i say is hell no Tim isent iced earth MAtt is iced earths vocals this song sounds better then Tims version that why i say Re record The glorious burden with Matt on Vocals

  • Iced earth isnt one man its the group of the men if its one man than it wouldnt be a band?

  • Yeah, but the band isn't worth listening to without Barlow. Without his voice, it sounds like any other power metal band.

  • i dont know the one from the other but i like all the songs

  • There was actually a copy of The Glorious Burden from 2003 with Matt's vocals on it. Sadly, it got destroyed when Schaffer's basement flooded.

  • Hmm, Matt Barlow sounds like Paul Stanley in in the refrain!

  • i prefer the ripper as a singer

but no one can deny that barlow is the true voice of iced earth

  • I'm really surprised how people like Tim with IE. I mean, I've nothing against the dude... But IE without Matt is kaka! Matt and Matt alone is the voice of Iced Earth!

  • i luve this song!!! its my fave

  • I love matt barlow and this is a really cool version, but ripper's version is better.

  • I agree, but I think live Barlow pulls any of the songs of Ripper of. He guns Ten Thousand Strong like a titan lol

  • Hell, i love The Glorious Burden!!! Red Baron/Blue Max Rules!!!

  • does anyone give a shit

  • i like tim's more, but matt does it well too.

  • This song is amazing..one of Iced Earth's best

  • Finally Barlow is back...thanks to God.

But I have to say that Framing Armageddon was a good album (The Glorious Burden was not -_-)

  • hell yea this is awesome.

  • what is a Setian?

  • It's from Set. He is the character in a lot of Iced Earth songs. He's not a friendly guy.

  • The Setian Race are the original inhabitants of earth. We humans came, and conquered their planet killing them all save for 10,000 whom have waited in hiding for revenge. At some point they devised "The Clouding" which effectivly wiped out the human invaders memories causing them to forget who they were, and what their doing here on earth. And yet the worst was yet to come!

  • The Setian is a race that inhabited the earth before us humans. The Setians are the children of the gods of the universe and had mastered all forms of technology. (AKA Time travel and the such) The humans felt that if they bred with the Setian they would be able to transcend and "cleans" themselves and become the most powerful force in the universe. (motivation of man describes this and Setian Massacre describes the attack) Hope that helps.

  • Um...

    Not so much

Theres nothing about breeding in either Framing Armageddon or The Crucible of Man.

The setians weren't very technological, but they had artifacts (the dimension gauntlet) that had power over time and space.

The humans who were technologically advanced came to earth in part of universal conquest and whiped out all but 10,000 setians.

The reason they said man is no longer inferior in Motivation of Man was because they were powerful with their universal conquest.

  • I've heard all this explained in a interview with Jon, it's on the Iced Earth website...so yeah. =D

  • I choose Barlow over everything ripper does not that i dont like ripper he's amazing but Barlow just sings everything perfect imo

  • i listened to this song in a cd that came with the metal magazine "hammer" and its fucking awesome!

  • Can anyone say 10,000 times better? Barlow still owns.

  • Personally I prefer this over Ripper's high vocals. Both vocalists did an awesome job on this song though!

  • I Prefer The Ripper on this song, but Barlow isn't too shabby either

  • personalmente... esta cancion me gusto mas con el Ripper..pero no digo que esta este mal..

  • habia escuchado otra version, pero esta moola!

  • niiiice
