I think we did already, mate. After it took the lives of 1,000,000 Philippine and 60,000 U.S. troops to take it back from the Japanese in WWII. The Phillippines became an independent Third World country in 1954, unless you guys miss the being part of the American Commomwealth again. You are welcome to rejoin the American Empire now if you want to.
