I hate when people who don't follow Chess (which is a sport, mind you. If a game that requres the ability to throw a ball is considered a sport, then a game that requires the highest reaches of human intellect is surely a sport as well) interview chess gods. If I was playing Alexandra Kosteniuk I'd crap my pants, and it doesn't even phase this guy.

I think the main thing here is to recognize that chess can be a most effective way to develop the minds of kids since they find it fun at the same time. The fact that she wants to promote chess this way IN THE USA is a big deal because chess is WAY under promoted here. Hats off to you Grandmaster.

Sure, chess is a great game to teach girls ;-)

My daughter is not even 2 yet and she knows which ones are the pawns and which ones are the knights, and many of the other pieces too, since she sees her Mom playing with them all the time. I'm looking forward to teaching her chess, I think 4 years old is the right age to start. Good luck with your daughter!

You know, my daughter is 5 years old now and she still can't play chess, but she can already setup the pieces on the board! I think that's a good progress. I don't want to force her in anything... but I admit that I will be very happy when she will beat me in chess for the first time! :)

The Scandinavian 1. e4 d5 is a good opening, but I thought for the interviewer 1... e5 would be better. Otherwise in the Scandinavian Black must take out his Queen a little early, which may be fine, but which goes against basic opening principles.
