What wonderful memories. I lived there from 1938 to 1956, when I emmigrated to Canada. My mother ran the post office from late 40's to mid 50's. I was a choir boy soloist. It will always be my home.
I am visiting Burwash on my trip to Eastbourne in a few weeks time. Your video has given me a little insight into what I can expect. Look forward to seeing the real thing.
I was Born In Burwash, My grandfather Alby Waterhouse put on the light at the church memorial for over 40 Years, always did it as a boy...Great Place Burwash....
Actually no, I didn't forget your Dad. The very last shot of the Union Jack at half mast was in honour of your Father, Mike, who had passed away that week. It was filmed at the village fete. He was a great bloke who did a lot for the village. Really really glad that you found this video, take care, dee
I also used to live in Burwash, and I make a trip back there every time I'm in England - I live in Italy now. I remember Eddie Workmans shop well - and I remember him featuring in a documentary about the village in the 80's.I went back for remembrance Sunday and a few pints of Harveys this year - and it still feels like home.
Thank you so much for your feedback! I too now live in Australia, Gold Coast - so I made it for 2 reasons - 1) as a reminder to me and 2) to promote the village community - there is only 1 tea shop left (as well as the Bear), and the gift shop has closed down too. Don't know when you lived there but my Grandfather and Uncle (The Workmans) ran the village grocer shop! regards Dee
Hi Dee, I have been living in Sydney for 6 years now. I remember Tom and Eddie Workman. Tom was a regular in the Bear. He used to sit with Charlie Waterhouse and was very particular about which glass you served his beer in. I think Eddie was tee-total so didnt drink in any of the pubs. However, my Mother was always sending me up to Workmans to get groceries if they ran out so I saw Eddie regularly. I lived in Burwash between 1970ish and 1983ish. All the best. Dave
