hey how about you fans in here try showing up to the games all i see is empty seats,
by the way the other teams are fed up shoveling money to these franchises and their SECTIONS of empty seats thru the profit sharing, as for not having a clue its a well known fact your team is losing millions, give it up.
The City of Glendale already has $1 BILLION in sports-related debt. Instead of paying it off, they want to borrow $100 million more to give to a Chicago hedge-fund manager so he can pretend to "buy" the bankrupt team.
Worse still, the guys pushing the deal (Gary Husk and Grant Woods) are the same ones implicated in the massive Fiesta Bowl corruption.
Goldwater is saving Glendale's taxpayers big time.
BTW this is obviously a special interest group....But who's side are they on? Sad to think this clueless airhead thinks she is helping us??? What a IDIOT!
if the coyotes are forced to leave arizona...GWI group should get the bill and be held 100% accountable for all the money that glendale will lose because of it
Honestly if GWI has no case as a lot have said, why is Glendale not stepping up and providing proof that the deal is legal? It is easy for a lot of you to come down on them because you are not living in Glendale. Of course it doesnt affect you if the Glendale taxpayers get hung with the debt so its hard to look at it impartially. All GWI wants is the taxpayers off the hook. Why is the NHL and Hullsizer so relunctant to do that if they are so sure that the team can make money??
I'm think when it is all said and done the public will be made aware of some "motovation" that won't seem so benevolent by GWI supporters. Will see how much they love GWI when "Glendale don't have game."
The Arena operates for other events throughout the year, not just hockey. It employs several people year round that are not directly affiliated with the Phoenix Coyotes. For the record, GOLDWATER THREATENED SUIT FIRST. Saying that Glendale is "bullying" by threatening to sue them is hypocrisy. Save the 'Yotes!
So if the team leaves the city is screwed and thousands of jobs wil be lost? ummm wtf do those thousands of people do for the other 321 nights a year when the team isnt playing?
@jlaff1 its not directed at people who work at the arena. its directed at people who work at westgate, the big shopping center near the arena. without the coyotes, people are not gonna have any reason to go to westgate, and almost all the businesses there will go out of business. thats how all these jobs will be lost. GWI just doesnt care about the citizens they claim to be "protecting."
this is absolutely the most rediculous thing i have ever seen. GWI has absolutely no case and if you actually know anything about this situation, they are the ones threatening to sue just because they don't want the deal to go through. Darcy Olsen is actually Satan.
@cMsherman2 Section 7. Neither the state, nor any county, city, town, municipality, or other subdivision of the state shall ever give or loan its credit in the aid of, or make any donation or grant, by subsidy or otherwise, to any individual, association, or corporation. EXPLAIN THAT. ITS ILLEGAL. SO SHUT THE PHUCK UP!!!!!!!
@iliketherangersalot2 How come all 4 law firms that the CoG got to look at this deal said that it was legal then? I seriously doubt your a layer. If the team leaves the taxpayers will be WAY worse off.
Just another reason why the Goldwater Institute is full of Bull Shit. They dont mention the whole story. Thousands of jobs would be lost if the coyotes left. Down with Goldwater!!!
100 million dollars to save mostly minimum wadge jobs, and a hockey team that has never turned a profit. Why not invest that money into the creation of sustainable jobs? Tax breaks to small business' would be a good start. This deal was put in place so the city council doesn't have to admit it made a mistake by placing a hockey team in the desert! how are you going to make this money back in parking if nobody goes to the games? Winnipeg gets better attendance for minor league games.
Another example of bad journalism that does not discuss actual facts.
The $100m is a loan of which $25m will be paid back right away and the balance is for purchasing the parking rights valued at $60-80m. Just last night Mr. Hulsizer has indicated that he will personally guarantee the $75m so this should no longer be an issue.
The Goldwater Institute threatened to sue the City of Glendale. Why isn't this mentioned?
What i care about the most is i would think its so funny to have a Brand new areana Vacant and just rotting there for the next decade. Building the arena in the first place was beyond me. Hockey in the desert lol.
oh for gosh sakes. get out of here GWI and stop trying to get attention. let a judge decide. how would this deal even go through if it were against the law? this deal is completely within the states constitution. you really are pathetic. i cant wait to see you guys get sued yourselves and then you will be living on the streets... OH AND THAN THE TAXPAYERS WILL HAVE TO PAY YOUR WELFARE =O
This woman is very intelligent and well spoken, a nice contrast from Gary Bettman to be sure. Watching Gary's press conference last week where he blamed the Goldwater Institute for defending the law was just sad. Gary doesn't care about Glendale, though he pretends to, what he's really fighting for is a longterm lucrative tv contract from ESPN where he stands to earn more at the bargaining table with teams in large tv markets like Phoenix. To hell with the law or the taxpayers of Arizona.
"Glendale, AZ - Home of NHL Coyotes, NFL Cardinals and Super Bowl 2008" - the title of the official city website. Odd place for that boast? The first thing Glendale wants to say is their city's the place for pro sports? They want to mortgage streets and sewers to keep the team? Bettman's implied the loss of the Coyotes might doom the city itself. I went through the trouble of checking the website of every other municipality in NA that hosts pro team. No other one mentions their sports team(s).
Olsen is lying. The deal is not illegal or a subsidy. Great local AZ interview where Goldwater gets exposed as simply shilling for donations while jeopardizing Glendale jobs and 500 million dollars. breakradioshow . c o m / show-archive/39-breakthrough-sports-e%C2%AD%C2%AD%C2%ADvery-friday-200-to-400/241-03112011-bt-sports-preside%C2%ADntceo-%C2%ADof-the%C2%AD-goldwater-institute-darcy-olsen-a-assist%C2%ADant-deputy-c%C2%ADity-manager-%C2%ADfor-the-city-of-glendale-juli%C2%ADe-frisoni
@zensmack89 If Olsen is lying, the City of Glendale had plenty of time to get a declaratory judgement affirming the legality of their proposed gift to Hulsizer. They didn't and that's why the legality of the bonds is now fuzzy at best.
It is up to governments to make sure they follow the law, it shouldn't be up to taxpayer groups to have to sue and sue and sue and sue to keep governments in line. If governments want to play fast and loose with the law, why shouldn't everyone else?
@geg1967 "Fast and Loose", "Hand in the Cookie Jar"' " Hide the ball" just sounds like some idiot getting fast and loose with the empty rhetoric. That somebody needs to come with the facts real soon instead of just claiming for the third week in a row they are reviewing documents. Glendale will wait to see the extent of the damage done by GWI before they file. GWI who is soliciting donations from Canada while jeopardizing the jobs and future of the very taxpayers they claim to be protecting.
@zensmack89 Uh, watchdogs aren't obliged to prove gov't is breaking the law, gov't is obliged to prove they are obeying the law. If that dumb bitch mayor is so sure she is within the law she could've gone and got a declaratory judgement and that would have taken care of GWI. And if GWI was so full of it the investment houses would have paid no mind to their letters. Luckily we have this thing called the First Amendment that protects watchdogs from fascist wannabes like the Glendale City Council.

HEY GWI...WAKE UP!!!...WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS WRONG FOR ARIZONA!!!
THE ONLY ONES WHO WILL BENEFIT IS YOU BECAUSE YOURE GETTING YOUR NAME OUT!!! EVERYONE ELSE LOSES!!!
even john mccain has said to back off...
very good article here explaining why GWI is nothing but a joke
arizonasports. com/category/coyotes-articles/20110413/McCain-calls-for-mediator-and-talks-to-keep-Coyotes
rockerseven 10 months ago
anyone who believes what GWI is doing is right needs to wake up
whether you like or dislike the coyotes...thats irrelevant
if the coyotes leave, the arena has no tenant, so money is not flowing to the city
but the city still has to pay to keep it maintained
apart from that, the westgate plaza that its sitting in will die off, and hundreds of people will lose their jobs
the city is doomed to lose ALOT more money if the yotes leave than if they stay

plus, all the restaurants at westgate will lose business (a majority of their business is hockey fans who go to eat before/during games)
