What i would give to teach this monkeys dad(and him when he gets older) what guns are-and what they do to a family member, then release him in the wild and track this motherfucker. would be just like killing a human. :) all the gritty emotion.
@doobiesmoke15 Just found a video with Kanzi (Teco's father) and Teco interacting- also by the Great Ape trust. Kanzi is similar to Koko in that he was taught to use American Sign Language to communicate with his researchers.
@SElement91 Correct me if I'm wrong, but Kanzi does not use sign language; Koko understands sign language only, while Kanzi and Panbanisha understand spoken language and use a lexigram keyboard to communicate with the other apes at the trust (that is, with humans, haha). But I wasn't aware that Kanzi used sign language for communication
@doctorsensual77 Koko does use sign language and also recognizes spoken language. Kanzi doesn't communicate fluently in ASL but certainly knows quite a few signs.
I love this type of research and these types of ideas. They help change our culture in a positive way. Hopefully this type of work will help show our human species that we are even closer to our animal brothers and sisters than we think. I am sure that with new technologies, ideas and more work, two way communication will happen in the next few decades between human/chimps and human/dolphins. Thumbs up for sure!
Isn't Teco the bonobo that they suspected had developed autism? We talked about this in my human anatomy & physiology class. It's a fascinating concept, if they can prove that he HAS developed a form of autism, and could lead the way in prevention (if possible) and early screening of the disorder.
this is absolutely fascinating. I mean it bare so much resemblance to human behavior and interaction at a year old. I majored in Spanish and Linguistics in college and as a recent graduate this fascinates me and I wonder Teco will actually speak and learn words. I woudl love to work here and I think what you guys are doing is amazing.

What would a meeting between Koko the gorilla and these bonobos be like?
doobiesmoke15 4 months ago 3
@doobiesmoke15 Interesting, but perhaps very stressful for the apes.
