Genes copy themselves but in that process you get little errors. Over time things get worse and are winding down, so the word evolution is a fallacy. It's adaptation, and through survival of the fittest it sustains, but in fact slowly getting worse, through radiation and chemical imbalance. The creation was one perfect and is slowly deteriorating.
Over time these can lead to big changes. Its just further proof of evolution.

There is just no point to it, so proves evolution (which says we evolved from things with scales and tails) or shows that God is retarded.
To put it plainly, our bodies provide the means for our genes to continue into the next generation. Natural Selection causes the genes to be selected for by breeding. The strong ones survive, the weak ones don't.
What people usually don't seem to understand is that our personalities are irrelevant. Our personalities are adaptations based on combinations of genes acting on their environment. That's partly why the religious side doesn't like evolution. Evolution proves we are not special.
@ashleylovesdaddy Our personalities do matter, if they didn't evolution would have eliminated them millenia ago. Species survival is the primary function and our personalities make that possible. Without personality with its directed intelligence we wouldn't HAVE science as a way of controlling our environment. And we can project our personalities and our knowledge forward through time so they can actually affect our species's survival far more than our genes.
@colourmegone I would say that Personalities matter in that they help differentiate an individual from another and create diversity within a species. It might be safe to say animals have more of a "Personality" the more diverse their gene pool becomes. I can't say I'm certain of that though.
Also, I'm not sure we could even hypothetically Not have personalities. Developing Science may be an inevitability of evolving life forms. I think we just use better tools than other creatures.

We are not the replicators, DNA is the replicator. This is where Lamarckian evolution went wrong (acquired characteristincs) and Darwin was right (natural selection of mutations).
Actually, the genes are what replicate and spread - that's generally the unit that Dawkins refers to when discussing reproduction and propagation of traits and when referencing the body as the "vessels." So it's not necessarily about the individual but rather the genes that individual carries which continue on (or don't).
Not really. You were basically right, but: You were correcting the body as the replicator with DNA. The DNA is the coding mechanism by which replication is carried out, the gene is the unit which is replicated and carried on. That's the main difference... for example: A computer virus is comprised of code, but cannot be carried on unless all of the code is copied in order (unless a mistake is made which mutates the virus, which doesn't really happen in computers so the metaphor stops there).
Oh, yes, you are right. Seems like I confused "gene" and "DNA".
But what I was trying to say is that the body itself cannot be considered the replicator, since it does not copy itself, even though it is the machine that does this work.

I would agree with this. Evolutionists need to be careful not to read too much into their discoveries about evolution. They are in as much danger as close-minded Christians of closing their own minds. The Theory of Evolution is an explanation, but it is not complete and poses more questions that it asks. These have yet to be answered.
The Theory of Graivty is incomplete and leaves a lot of questions yet to be answered. Does that mean you don't believe in gravity? All scientists should be open-minded, but they should only be open-minded to possibilities that have actual evidence for them. Saying that everything is possible makes for an unrealistic approach to the practical world that is cluttered by a lot of bullshit. Start with reality and spend your free time thinking about "what if?"

@british123able Out of the trillions of random chemicals in the early ocean soup, when just one is able to replicate itself it then duplicates billions of times and somewhere one of those billions does it slightly differently. It is evolving. This continues limpingly slowly for maybe half a billion years til systems that we call cells had developed. Development of life didn't happen suddenly "from a rock". It took billions of years.

WRONG. The truth can only be discovered when it's actually there. Fosils are truth, we know they exist. We can't say god exists because there's no physical evidence. By that same logic we can't say he doesn't exist. The bible is not proof no matter how much you want it to be since it was written in an eyewitness perspective, and eyewitness testimony is the weakest form of evidence there is.

Genes copy themselves but in that process you get little errors. Over time things get worse and are winding down, so the word evolution is a fallacy. It's adaptation, and through survival of the fittest it sustains, but in fact slowly getting worse, through radiation and chemical imbalance. The creation was one perfect and is slowly deteriorating.

To put it plainly, our bodies provide the means for our genes to continue into the next generation. Natural Selection causes the genes to be selected for by breeding. The strong ones survive, the weak ones don't.
What people usually don't seem to understand is that our personalities are irrelevant. Our personalities are adaptations based on combinations of genes acting on their environment. That's partly why the religious side doesn't like evolution. Evolution proves we are not special.

Without personality with its directed intelligence we wouldn't HAVE science as a way of controlling our environment. @colourmegone I would say that Personalities matter in that they help differentiate an individual from another and create diversity within a species. It might be safe to say animals have more of a "Personality" the more diverse their gene pool becomes. I can't say I'm certain of that though.
Also, I'm not sure we could even hypothetically Not have personalities. Developing Science may be an inevitability of evolving life forms. I think we just use better tools than other creatures.

In any event if there were no advantage to our personality evolution would have weeded it out years ago. Actually, the genes are what replicate and spread - that's generally the unit that Dawkins refers to when discussing reproduction and propagation of traits and when referencing the body as the "vessels." So it's not necessarily about the individual but rather the genes that individual carries which continue on (or don't).

Not really. You were basically right, but: You were correcting the body as the replicator with DNA. The DNA is the coding mechanism by which replication is carried out, the gene is the unit which is replicated and carried on. That's the main difference... for example: A computer virus is comprised of code, but cannot be carried on unless all of the code is copied in order (unless a mistake is made which mutates the virus, which doesn't really happen in computers so the metaphor stops there).

What we believe, or disbelieve in life should be based upon evidence or lack thereof. Richard D. is an atheist according to those very principles. There is no evidence of god, thus forcing an intelligent person to disbelieve the claim. That is exactly how science works! What is your complaint?

In other words, an atheist is a person that LACKS beliefe in a devine moron in the sky it is not a person that believes god does not exist. There is a big difference there. And with the first, the proper definition it is perfectly OK to say I do not know! I do not know if Unicorns exist and therefore I lack belief that they do.

Christians (I assume) are putting up all this "atheism/evolution is a religion" and "it's just a theory" bull.
I'm so sick of religious hypocrisy and scientific ignorance especially when it does real damage to other people (science education, abortion, AIDS control in Africa, stem cell research).
At least there are people like Dawkins who aren't afraid to make a public fuss about all this, especially when many rational people and non-believers have been thinking the same thing for years.

I would agree with this. Evolutionists need to be careful not to read too much into their discoveries about evolution. They are in as much danger as close-minded Christians of closing their own minds. The Theory of Evolution is an explanation, but it is not complete and poses more questions that it asks. These have yet to be answered.

The Theory of Graivty is incomplete and leaves a lot of questions yet to be answered. Does that mean you don't believe in gravity? All scientists should be open-minded, but they should only be open-minded to possibilities that have actual evidence for them. Saying that everything is possible makes for an unrealistic approach to the practical world that is cluttered by a lot of bullshit. Start with reality and spend your free time thinking about "what if?"
