  • dude just saw the revival and it was great.Im not so crazy aboutthis version especially with that accent bleaaagghhh ruins the song. And Conick did a better job at this plus I think the plot changes of the revival made it ten times more interesting. I think the original plot is a little dated and boring to be honest :P but still great show and score

  • Just saw the revival at the St. James Theater last night. It was very entertaining although Harry Connick, Jr. does not have to vocal chops to sing the big numbers the way John Collum did.

  • I love the lines about "getting lost in Korvettes and getting signed by the Mets!" I never knew that Alan Jay Lerner and Burton Lane were Mets fans..

  • Just saw the Harry Connick Jr revival tonight. Quite magical and very entertaining! All you who have posted your premature disappointment should know that the original book needed help and it got it. The new version is a lot of fun and beautifully sung by exceptionally talented people.

  • @1968born Is the entire score at least intact?

  • @MonessenBandMan

Only half the score is intact. The 18th Century sounding stuff had to go because the "past" scenes are in the 1940s and so songs by the composing team originally written for the film ROYAL WEDDING and three songs written for the film version of CLEAR DAY have been used to fill out the score. The interpolations work well. This is a revival of CLEAR DAY the way CRAZY FOR YOU was a revival of GIRL CRAZY. It's all the same and it's all new at the same time.

  • Why are people making so many assumptions about a show which has not even had one preview yet? ON A CLEAR DAY is hardly a great show, even a good one and was a flop originally but it has a great score, this time enhanced by the addition of some great Lerner songs like Too Late Now. I have tickets for the night before it opens. We'll see.

  • @pudgeuncle As I said, I hope the revival surpasses my rather low expectations, but until it does, I will continue to be satisfied with what remains of the original production. You are right, it's hardly a perfect work as a whole, but there were some amazingly talented people in the original cast (John Cullum and the brilliant Barbara Harris) and it has a wonderful score as captured by the original cast album (and several bootleg recordings)

  • @MonessenBandMan Cullum and Harris are great. I do wish the producers were able to have secured their original choice for the male lead - Louis Jordan.

  • As a senior citizen I'm old enough to have seen a lot of great musical theatre with their original casts...Ethel Merman in Gypsy, Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews in My Fair Lady, etc. The upcoming revival of On a Clear Day sounds bizarre with Harry Connick Jr. playing the female lead as a male.

  • @nytheatrelady1 Connick is not "playing the female lead as a male" .

  • @pudgeuncle but someone else is

  • I remember seeing John Cullum in the original production. What charisma!!

  • @nytheatrelady1 You saw the original production! i wish I had been around to see it. The only production I'd probably ever be able to see is the atrocious revival, and I'd rather have nothing

  • Thanks for uploading it. A talented singer and actor John Cullum.
