The price range seems a little steep to me if you take in account the time it takes for the teacher to even know where you fall skill-wise. I can't really see myself paying that sum of money for a hopefully productive session when I can spend time on Jamplay for a monthly cost. I hope a better payment system is put in place because the concept rules.
@Mascot105 Hey Mascot, definitely a valid concern, but i assure you, you'll have a very productive experience if you use the site. The nature of the online lessons are way more focused, there are less distractions, and its a very sound system. As long as you have a good connection, I'm sure you'd dig it. Hope to see you on there!
@TheCzar93 Hey bud! Did you apply as a teacher or student? We'll slowly start activating students on Monday, and teachers we'll be reviewing everyday starting tomorrow. Thanks!
@BandhappyTube I'm confused as to how the lesson would work for drums as learning drums over the web isn't exactly practical, especially since kit is in my garage where there is no connection :P Would it be kinda over a practice pad through the chat or just the teacher going through a subject and just you taking it in? Not really sure how to put it just need clarifying really because I would love to take advantage of this service :) Its an awesome idea!
@FakeMessiah94 Hey bud, Matt here - i've taught 100's and 100's of online drum lessons and honestly, it works great! Now, if you don't have a good connection for internet in your garage, then i wouldn't recommend taking the lesson there - however, if you do have a pad, teaching drum lessons can be just as effective that way, and through the video chat, when you're there for a designated time and focused, it really is a great environment for learning! Take a lesson with me, you'll see!
When you select your own timezone, do the lessons get shown to you on the time that you live by, or by the time the teacher goes by? I live in NZ and don't wanna accidentally book a lesson for when I'm at work/sleeping or something haha =]
@andylunt2 They automatically set to YOUR personal time zone - so if you're in NZ and your teacher is in the US, your lesson time will be appropriate for your time zone, corresponding to your teacher's time zone.
This is gonna be amazing, and 50-70 is really reasonable, seeing as most teachers are musical gods, not your run-of-the-mill n00b teachers at Guitar Center.
I'm a bit concernd about the record feature, don't you fear that in this way lessons will be available for free to anyone?...I mean what if someone records it and then shares it on youtube or other sites...just sayin, can't wait to sign up by the way :D
@delopizza - even if someone finds a clever way to re-record and share the lesson, thats great free promotion for the teacher! It will inspire other students to want to have that same live, one-on-one experience as well!
It's one lesson per "student"? I mean, if a person takes a lesson with the teacher i can't buy that lesson anymore? Or it will be a live lesson for more than one person, i mean: one teacher for one thousand people watching it?
@ToueTu When you buy the lesson, it is YOUR lesson, one-on-one LIVE with your teacher. We'll have group lessons in the near future, but for now, it's great to connect one-on-one!
@ToueTu Prices are set by each teacher - they set their own rates. $40-$70 are typical hourly rates though for music lessons... You'll be able to take 30 min lessons too for less though. Thanks!
How do you pay when you're in an European country, say Germany, and don't own a credit card? Is there any other payment method? And are there many teachers in other countries than USA?
@intruderGER There are teachers from all over, but you'll need a credit card to pay. Feel free to borrow a friend's and pay them cash, or maybe a parent will let you use their card and you can reimburse them with cash as well!
Wait, have we gotten so entitled that we expect free lessons from these guys? Chaps, please, come on now! There's free tutorial stuff all over YouTube, strikes me as this is a rather different animal. A good different animal. Like a panther or something. I'm not good with metaphors.
I'm a drummer, and I own an acoustic kit. As one can imagine, it doesn't bode well with webcam or other PC microphones. Am I responsible for getting my kit sounding decent on cam in order to really get the full experience of a lesson?
@Sagellz Nope! It'll work great! I've taught 100's of online drum lessons, just dont beat the crap out of the drums and make sure to have questions for your teacher so you can really cover everything you want to learn!
Definitely has a lot of potential! The on tour lessons are awesome, however I do have some concerns when it comes to the webcam lessons. Technical difficulties can occur at any time and you would be amazed at how many people aren't able to set up a webcam and/or mic properly. I wonder if there will be an option to test one's internet connection, webcam and mic prior to any lesson and what happens if there is a technical problem during the lesson. Not trolling around, I'm super stoked as well :)
@xjohnxwaynex - great points! 15 minutes prior to all ONLINE lessons you'll be able to log into your chat room and test your connection, camera, and microphone. We provide instructions for doing this on all purchased ONLINE lesson pages. We have an extensive and easy to understand video chat tutorial section in case you have any problems as well!
@BandhappyTube thanks for the quick answer. I've seen that testing option in the video but I think it should be available at any time, regardless if you've booked a lesson or not. If you purchased a lesson with Matt and realize 10 minutes prior to the start that your mic is broken, it will be hard to find a replacement in time. Just my 2 cents ;) Thumbs up for everything else though!
@xjohnxwaynex Absolutely - that feature is already in the pipeline, amongst a ton of other awesome ones! Remember, this is Bandhappy 1.0 - lots more awesome stuff to come!
@bongobums Those are example prices (and aren't bad at all). While many teachers will have prices like the ones in this video (or more), the teachers get to choose the prices themselves, so they won't all be the same.
so awesome how you make it seem all serious but there's still an element of douchebaggery that we come to expect from anything with any link to Periphery ! :D
Wow, this is the best idea I've heard in a long time.
