  • What a beautiful melody

  • THE INTERROBANG!?

  • Is this an official video? Seems like it's either a so-so official video or a massively brilliant fan-made video.

  • @chaddvanzanten I'm pretty sure its official, but either way it's just a composite of footage from "Watch Me Jumpstart", the GBV documentary

  • brilliant!

    GBV! Great!!!!

  • ROBERT POLLARD...You saved my life after a very nasty divorce and mean custody battle. Got Under the bushes, under the stars. Brought me back to life. Thats back in 96 friends. Been a FAN ever since. Thanks for all the COOL music. SHINE ON.

  • Got invited (with many others) on stage with these guys at an ATL show in '99 to rock with this song. Will never forget it! Pollard Rules.

  • I've seen hundreds and hundreds of shows and GBV hold 9 out of the top ten slots for the best shows Ive ever seen.. archers of loaf at the embassy in london slip in at #10,but gbv in all of their various incarnations hold the rest...the alien lanes tour still holds the top spot with thrush hermit opening because it was my first, but the two days in a row at the horseshoe tavern in toronto during the UTAC tour are 2 and 3 . I hope Bob comes back to Canada some day soon....

  • wonderful...thanks gbv for all the great times...

  • So much great music. Such a great band.

  • I always refer to 'Alien Lanes' as their best album. Yet 'Under The Bushes' is my personal favourite!

  • @GBVGBVGBVGBV right on bro! no one respects under the bushes under the stars under the tables under the bars.

-you indie ourists need to be shot!

  • @twispsalterego Whats an ourist?

  • @GBVGBVGBVGBV I think he meant to say Purist. O is right next to P on the keyboard.

  • love thesong!!!!!!!!!

  • I love how the director worked in a picture of Bob from his teaching days at 2:24. I hope all his students grew up to be rock stars.

  • gotta love the brew-thru...

  • Great album, still thought bee thousand was the high mark. Great!

  • Under the Bushes Under the Stars is a melancholy album fine and noisy

One of the best 90 s albums

  • Comment removed

  • by far their best album...tobin, mitch still in the mix??? sheetkickers????

  • one of GBV's best songs. And their best album too

  • I prefer Alien Lanes but but UTBUTS is very close ... this video is uber-GBV.

I promise never to use "uber" again -- but it fit in this case.

  • GBV / Radiohead was the best gig ive ever been too

  • there really was such a thing? they need to release a dvd...

  • I grew up in dayton Oh. The I used to pass the green lantern bar on my way to church as a kid. I've been living somewhere else so long, is the american flag still on that building?

  • cat power, guides by voices, pavement

    matador records rules!

  • Again this is all we have left...fuck you ncr

  • I remember seeing these guys for the first time at a free music festival in Columbia MO, along with Flaming Lips. Wow, amazing memories.

  • Does anyone remember if this was the Guided by Voices song they played on WHTG 106.3 in New Jersey when Maggie and Mike worked there over 10 years ago? Anyone please help.

  • it was

  • Bob is the only man who can save Dayton

  • I don't know, BR. Did you ever read Vonnegut's description of Dayton in Slaughterhouse Five?

But if anyone can save Dayton, hopefully Bob and Boston Spaceships can.

  • yeah, vonnegut felt war-torn dresden was comparable to dayton. i think that's pretty accurate. i live in dayton, and sadly enough, it is slowly dying indeed. but to produce a band like GBV it deserves respect

  • DAYTON...this song is all we have left

  • You ad Dayton can kiss my ass, this song is all that is rock.

  • the world got great here - it got fine to follow, but just this wAS the best humans wewre - its hard to explain

  • sorry im pretty young but whats the significance of this song? was it in a good movie or what?

  • It is what it is. Great music doesnt always have to be from or mean anything. They were and still are their own phenomenon. Just enjoy it.

  • I'm assuming you're not familar with Guided by Voices. One of the great underground bands of the late 80's-90's. They kind of invented the low-fi thing that was big in some alternative circles. They achieved a small level of fame, but never translated over as well as some other alt acts did. Part of the reason was Bob Pollard's unwillingness to sell out. He really wanted to make it but just wasn't willing to change his music to make it happen. He has recorded hundreds and hundreds of songs

  • This song... and this video... transport me to a more innocent time. God bless you, Bob... and your scatter shot genius.

  • Gold star for robot boy for posting this

  • I just have to hum it all day long. Seriously.

  • Long Live Rockathon!

  • Great song still!

  • Champions officially.

  • how the fuck is 1996 over 12 years ago?

  • I know! 12 years gone? I'm coming out against it! Let's demand a live-over.

  • The greatest rock band of all time. PERIOD.

  • ...it brings a tear to my eye, and a lump to my throat...THE greatest band EVER.

  • i'm sooo with you. they're terrible live, but when i need to feel good, i can put on GBV and think that maybe the world hasn't gone wrong...

  • Terrible live? Are you kidding me?! They were awesome live, and I'm not just saying that b/c Bob handed me a six-pack from stage once :)

  • They are the BEST live band ever, are you kidding me? Robert Pollard is the best drunk showman a stage ever was blessed with. For shame, Joheyv! For shame!

  • With ya on that one bro! The band was always up for a pre-show round of friendliness, and Bob handed me a bottle of Tequilla once. Everyone ata a GBV show felt like they were part of the band. I did anyway :)

  • Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about. They are one of the most powerful live bands I've EVER seen in 32 years of seeing shows. The most uplifting rock 'n roll experience ever. It will straighten you out!

I've seen Bob so drunk he could hardly get a sentence out, then he counts to 4 and the band explodes and he doesn't miss one syllable of a phrase, doesn't forget one lyric, and they play 40 songs in a night! With 200 songs to choose from? It's fucking spiritual! The club is open!

  • That's a special talent all on its own. Haha!

  • cigarrets, alcohal, gbv. What more do you need on a great evening

  • Encyclopedia Dramatica

  • Good 90s feel to the video. Class!

  • Last decent album they did...Big Boring Wedding is the best song on it though...

  • One of their better singles

  • what makes this video so great is the miami valley/dayton landmarks. I miss this bad...this band with tobin, mitch, and bob

  • What an anthem from a band that wrote a thousand anthems. My fist is in the air. Long live GBV!!!

  • this brings back really awesome memories...sigh :)

  • love this video. The cartoon boxers are great.

  • gbv reunite!!!!! gbv reunite!!!!!!!!!

please, if just for one gig. then we can die.

  • GBV makes songs that feel good. this one is one of my favorite songs of all time. thx.

  • My favorite song by one of my all-time favorite bands.

  • the most under appreciated american band there ever was.

  • Dayton's pretty near where i live -- about an hour away. I go there quite a bit. This song is pretty much what the town is like.

  • I love this band!

  • love Bob love GBV

  • who played the solo?whoever did is the best gbv guitarist my guess is Mitch then he shouldnt ave been replaced

  • good question ... i believe that it should be Tobin and Mitch, the end of an era. i think the album credits are kinda f ed up as i believe it was re-recorded a few times.

  • toby left of his own accord, pretty much the only unamicable person to leave "might be" mitch (besides cobra verde sans doug), but mitch seemed to be on his own wavelength, which is why he rules.

  • mitch does rule. i have never seen him solo but saw him w/ GBV. this is not a crit of anyone else. i enjoyed 'em all. i loved Tobin's solo stuff as well.

  • and shit yeah its cool

  • what a kickass song!

  • Pretty song. Bobby Pollard is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. I, like most, would agree that this is the quintessential GBV lineup, but I am smart enough to realize that it all begins and ends with Mr. Pollard.

  • AMAZING. iv been listening since i was about 4. && this video sums up GBV. amazing. perfect song for it too its def a gbv classic

  • Is this the Ironmen pro paintball team? I don't think so and that was what I was looking for. But this is pretty good. But hehe it's no pro paintball team's rally song.

  • Wow. This brought a tear to my eye.

GBV is dead. Long live GBV.

  • Yet another thankyou--I only ever saw the Motor Away/Auditorium video on the What's Up Matador compilation back in the day...

  • matador records. cool

  • Great! Thank you thank you thank you.

  • I agree with all of the comments . I can't tell you how much this this means!!!! Great band

  • umm yeah this is what rock is made of

  • holy shit look at greg.

  • Beautiful

  • one of my favorite songs, thanks

  • this song rocks

  • fucking awesome.
