ROBERT POLLARD...You saved my life after a very nasty divorce and mean custody battle. Got Under the bushes, under the stars. Brought me back to life. Thats back in 96 friends. Been a FAN ever since. Thanks for all the COOL music. SHINE ON.
I've seen hundreds and hundreds of shows and GBV hold 9 out of the top ten slots for the best shows Ive ever seen.. archers of loaf at the embassy in london slip in at #10,but gbv in all of their various incarnations hold the rest...the alien lanes tour still holds the top spot with thrush hermit opening because it was my first, but the two days in a row at the horseshoe tavern in toronto during the UTAC tour are 2 and 3 . I hope Bob comes back to Canada some day soon....
I grew up in dayton Oh. The I used to pass the green lantern bar on my way to church as a kid. I've been living somewhere else so long, is the american flag still on that building?
Does anyone remember if this was the Guided by Voices song they played on WHTG 106.3 in New Jersey when Maggie and Mike worked there over 10 years ago? Anyone please help.
yeah, vonnegut felt war-torn dresden was comparable to dayton. i think that's pretty accurate. i live in dayton, and sadly enough, it is slowly dying indeed. but to produce a band like GBV it deserves respect
I'm assuming you're not familar with Guided by Voices. One of the great underground bands of the late 80's-90's. They kind of invented the low-fi thing that was big in some alternative circles. They achieved a small level of fame, but never translated over as well as some other alt acts did. Part of the reason was Bob Pollard's unwillingness to sell out. He really wanted to make it but just wasn't willing to change his music to make it happen. He has recorded hundreds and hundreds of songs
They are the BEST live band ever, are you kidding me? Robert Pollard is the best drunk showman a stage ever was blessed with. For shame, Joheyv! For shame!
With ya on that one bro! The band was always up for a pre-show round of friendliness, and Bob handed me a bottle of Tequilla once. Everyone ata a GBV show felt like they were part of the band. I did anyway :)
Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about. They are one of the most powerful live bands I've EVER seen in 32 years of seeing shows. The most uplifting rock 'n roll experience ever. It will straighten you out!
I've seen Bob so drunk he could hardly get a sentence out, then he counts to 4 and the band explodes and he doesn't miss one syllable of a phrase, doesn't forget one lyric, and they play 40 songs in a night! With 200 songs to choose from? It's fucking spiritual! The club is open!
good question ... i believe that it should be Tobin and Mitch, the end of an era. i think the album credits are kinda f ed up as i believe it was re-recorded a few times.
toby left of his own accord, pretty much the only unamicable person to leave "might be" mitch (besides cobra verde sans doug), but mitch seemed to be on his own wavelength, which is why he rules.
mitch does rule. i have never seen him solo but saw him w/ GBV. this is not a crit of anyone else. i enjoyed 'em all. i loved Tobin's solo stuff as well.
Pretty song. Bobby Pollard is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. I, like most, would agree that this is the quintessential GBV lineup, but I am smart enough to realize that it all begins and ends with Mr. Pollard.
Is this the Ironmen pro paintball team? I don't think so and that was what I was looking for. But this is pretty good. But hehe it's no pro paintball team's rally song.
i like this one, because it sounds very toad the wet sprocket-ish to me
