@nilradem Thanks for that but doesn't ring any bells. Got a nice touch on the keys though. Just another anonymous hero of Rock who brightens our lives!!
@nilradem Just done some research on John Jarvis. The man's got pedigree! Easier to name people he HASN'T played with, going right back to Rod Stewart in the 70s. Respect!
Ronald Reagan was a tool...why do people worship him like a pagan god? He was a shitty actor-turned-pitch man who became a mouthpiece for Wall Street and the big business/corporate interests. During his presidency, the deficit grew enormously, social programs were cut and caused 1000s to become homeless, he gave chemical weapons to Saddam Hussein and money to South American death squads, AND gave the OK to train Bin Laden and his pals. Whatever. I've said my piece... you can take it or leave it
Steve's written some songs about drugs, but this is not one of them. It is about politicians, and Ronald Reagan in particular, who sell the working class a message that hurts them in the end.
Wow, man. Good song. I wonder if Steve ever comes on here and reads all the political comments on his songs(?) Well, might as well follow suit, I guess. For anyone who doesn't know it, "faux" means fake, as in Fox "news" is fake, get it? Republicans and Democrats both screw the working man. All professional politicians are full of shit. Tv is nothing but a mind-numbing distraction. The Bilderbergs et al can kiss my Native American ass. There you go, that's my opinion, like it or lump it.
Steve is the first person to say his music - including this song - is political. He would want people to think, and not just assume he is right wing just because he is a "country' artist. I am always amazed at commenters who assume he is a republican or libertarian.
I am a big Steve Earl fan, have been for years. I really appreciate the legacy he presents in "Copperhead Road", and the statement he makes about the difference in the way returning soldiers from WWII v/s Vietnam were treated. My primary disagreement is with his presentation of President Reagan in this song. While he may not have been perfect as no president has been, he was left a dissasterous economy to recover from Jimmy Carters administration. Politics aside, this guy rocks.....
@slinkie59 Well, let me be the first to congratulate you on your choice of language and use of grammer. Since I support everyones right to free speech, even if it comes from; lets say the less educated and I suspect, Pro Choice, Pro Gay Marriage, Pro Gun Control, Legalize Marijuana, Socialist Medicine Supporter, and lets not forget admirer of our Monkey in Chief, Harry Reid and Ditzy Pelosi. I take great honor in responding to you in much the same way you responded to me in saying "FUCK YOU!!!!"
@warsaw4201 another Retug troll and he thinks I'm ignorant obviously has no ideal where the conservative policies have done to America over the past 30 years are so,keep on watching Faux News, ignorance is bliss.
@chrishirschfeld He did write it about one of the presidents.. Reagan im pretty sure. Comparing him to a snake oil hustler. Which is basically calling him a smooth talking bullshitter. Its great man.
I grew up with my dad playing this in his 62 impala ss... aww the memories. Copperhead road and guitar town was always in the radio. Thank God he pulled the 8track out at some point...I miss the car and the songs.
@darlincommitme well said the reason he was never huge in the mainstream was because of his political beliefs. and to his credit he stuck to his guns.....that takes guts!!
He certainly stuck to his guns, though I would not go so far as to say that is the main reason why he wasn't more sucessful. I think it was also his refusal to go pop country and, to be blunt, losing 5 years at the height of his career to drugs. The politics didn't help, especially as he became more explicit, but I think a lot of people missed it (as they do with Springsteen.)
@darlincommitme totally agree with you. wasnt the main reason probably should have been a little clearer in my previous comment. still the guy rocks!!!!!!
Definitely rocks!! I am a HUGE Earle fan, but sometimes think his fans do him a disservice by seeing him as a victim of the music business... the Nashville establishment didn't like him, but I think it is a much more complicated story and I would guess he would agree. I am sure he has lost some support because of his politics, though suspect he lost more by shifting between genres. Yet to diehard fans, that is one of his gifts.
@TheJrgriffin If you have Sirius, Earle has his own show every Sat. night where he plays his own music and the music of people he likes and influenced him. very good show
@stevebkb Tell me about it ive been trying to find some sheet music for it but cant find any and its so annoying cause i cant sus out how to play it lol
