Via ferratas are such a simple and good idea. We only have one in the UK, and we could do with a few more. Of course our mountains are small, but the weather is vile, and if you walk in an exposed section you're invariably relying on your hands and head for heights.....

I feel much safer on the high alpine paths of the bigger austrian mountains - the weather is usually fine and anything exposed usually has a fixed cable.
