  • but works alone are not enough... right? Please inform me.

  • @Rypam99 Of course. Works are not enough. You need faith and good works.

  • Purgatory is a part of heaven and everyone in Purgatory will eventually make it to heaven.

  • purgatory is real guaranteed GOD SHOWED IT TO ME

  • "... wood, hay, and stubble".

Hay and stubble burn quickly in a fire while wood takes a long time to burn. I believe this might symbolize how long some people will stay in purgatory compared to others.

    Just a thought.

  • @HetmanWojtek It's certainly an interesting thought. I'll think about it for a while.

  • This is a wonderful video, I am a catholic.. yet I have a hard time understanding verses in the bible and sometimes its hard to keep to my beliefs when people tell me through verses that what I do is wrong. Yet, your video is a way in which for me to understand what I must believe and how to believe it. How did you become so knowledgable? I mean what did you read? I really want to be able to understand the beliefs that I should live my life by.. God bless you!

  • Prayer, Scripture, and one particular book: The Essential Catholic Survival Guide.

  • Purgatory isn't in the Bible. The idea of purgatory removes Christ from the cross and throws Him aside. This purgatory mentality is the same one which spit on Christ while He was on earth.

  • Johnny boy, you didn't watch the video did you? I go over several Scripture verses to prove purgatory. If you look in the info section, I even list the verses I used.

  • SeptemberCatholic18: As a good catholic, you should know that the idea that hell and heaven are " no real places" but "states of being" is nothing new. Theologians in the middle-ages allready came up with this idea, which was taken up recently again by the papacy. Look it up. Thus purgatory can be no real place either.

  • If heaven and hell are no " real places" acording to the latest theological statements, purgatory, is no real place either. Something that is in no real place, doesn`t exist.

  • First of all, just out of curiosity, what ex cathedra statements have been made regarding the nature of heaven and hell in respects to whether or not they are places?

Second of all, you know nothing of ontology. Things can certainly exist outside the realm of spacetime. For instance, God. Or are you claiming that spacetime had to first exist for God to exist?

  • SeptemberCatholic18;--Things can certainly exist outside the realm of spacetime. For instance, God. -- That`s your dogma. There is no evidence. When you think about it, it`s just impossible.

  • I'm sorry. I was assuming that you were theistic. Theists all agree that God transcends spacetime, but of course with a skeptic I must prove this.

Think of 15 billion years ago--the big bang. All mater and energy was condensed into a space of infinite density with no dimensions and no volume (a fancy way of saying that there was once nothing).

The consensus is that the universe (space*time) thus came into existence a finite time ago. The cause must have transcended spacetime to avoid fallacy.

  • Purgatory makes no more sense, since the latest theological statements about heaven and hell.

  • What doesn't make sense about purgatory?

  • Where in the bible talks about purgatory?

  • Watch the video.

  • I want scriptures

  • "Flameboy"....I read your profile....I was going to leave my Catholic Faith for "Born-Again Christianity"......My Baptist friend prayed for me and guess what?

I became a TRUE Catholic as a result.

History and the Scriptures all support the Catholic Faith. If your honest with yourself and do the necessary research you will come to the same conclusion I did.

  • Im a born again catholic/christian.

  • I had a "born-again" experience in the Catholic faith also.

However we are Catholics.....not "born-again Catholics"......we were "born-again" in Baptism.

  • born-again is to become a better person.

  • Actually, Christ makes it clear in John 3:5 that to be born again is to be baptized. To become a better person is called repentance, and that is separate from the rebirth of baptism. That's why John the Baptist urges us to repent (become a better person) AND be baptized (born-again).

For infants who are baptized, they are called to remain in the grace of God so that repentance is not needed. Sadly, most people do err, and so we have the Sacrament of Penance to bring them back into grace.

  • "For infants who are baptized, they are called to remain in the grace of God so that repentance is not needed."

    What?

  • Yes, since baptism cleans us of all sin (Hebrews 10:22), infants who are baptized are called to remain in that perfect state of grace so that they will not need to repent from evil. That is how it SHOULD be.

However, this is not practical, since eventually all baptized infants do sin later in life upon obtaining a conscience. So repentance is a call to all humans. Confession is there to bring us back to that perfect state of grace after baptism, since we cannot be baptized twice (Eph 4:5).

  • Listen to SeptemberCatholic....he knows his stuff.

    God Bless You

  • I am glad to hear that you didnt fall into the protestant trap! Congrats on realizing the fullness of truth in the Catholic church.

  • Thanks...Protestantism is Spiritual Anarchy.

  • I give plenty of Scripture in the video.

    Matt. 5:26,18:34; Luke 12:58-59; Matt. 12:32; Heb. 12:14,23; Rev. 21:27

If you want me to explain how these verses support purgatory, watch the video; I explain all of them.

  • ok... but you should put some music in it in the bg.

  • Thank you so MUCH for this wonderful video. I was raised as a protestant since birth. I am a Christian who is now returning home to the Catholic Church. I have always believed that Purgatory was in the scriptures, you put them all together in a GREAT video. Catholic (your) reasoning makes since. Again, THANK YOU and God Bless.

  • You are so welcome. God bless you. Please pray for me, and I will pray for you.

  • ***Doctors say my uncle only has a few hours left. Please pray for him. God bless you all.xxx<3

  • SeptemberCatholic18 You presentations are reliable, straightforward, easily understood and consistent with Catholic belief. They also respect those who are not Catholic but wish to learn the faith with an sincere heart. Those who suspect they are being misinformed about the faith are in for a pleasant suprise, here. Thank you for your work. Christ IS Risen & glorified in His Catholic Church, which safeguards the fullness of the faith, until His return. Come Lord Jesus! +Peace and All Good+

  • Thank you so much. It was in that spirit that I intended to conduct my work on Youtube. I hope I will be able to touch on most of the main topics eventually. God bless.

  • Thank you so much for creating this wonderful video. I really learned a lot.

  • SeptemberCatholic18... God Bless you for all of your good work and for defending our Catholic Faith in a proffessional way. I'm a Convert from the proptestant chuch... and your videos have helped me soooo much to understand better... please KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK WE NEED YOUR VIDEOS TO EDUCATE THIS WORLD ABOUT OUR FAITH. THANK YOU IS NOT ENOUGH!! SERIOUSLY!!

  • I appreciate your feedback! I always enjoy hearing from converts; usually they know their faith the better than the cradle-Catholics. I'm glad you enjoy my videos and I'll try to make more when I can.

By the way, I noticed from your profile that you're Hispanic. Are you Mexican? Just curious because I happen to be Mexican-American. God bless you and keep you!

  • Indeed, I am Mexican.... so good to hear you are Mexican-American!! You know... Your videos are amazing. Once I enter the seminary I will study hard to learn as much as I can to defend our church. God Bless You!!

  • "We have loved him during life; let us not abandon him, until we have conducted him by our prayers into the house of the Lord." St. Ambrose

Good video defending the Catholic doctrine of Purgatory.

  • Purgatory is another instrument to show how much God loves us.

  • your amazing man! Keep up the amazing work

  • I can`t help but feel pity with people like you, who seem to have had some education and yet believe all this nonsense without a shred of evidence

  • SeptemberCatholic18

--yes, every person who has ever lived has been in need of salvation.--

So all those generations had the same chance to go to heaven without salvation, why did we need it ?

  • Yes, we believe that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ was applied to those individuals. We needed it just as badly as they needed it. I never said that they had a chance to go to heaven without salvation. We have all been in need of salvation since the fall of man.

However, no one went to heaven before the sacrifice of Christ. They all went to a place called sheol (Hebrew), where the dead resided until their savior came to preach to them and rescue them from that place.

  • ___However, no one went to heaven before the sacrifice of Christ. They all went to a place called sheol (Hebrew), where the dead resided until their savior came to preach to them and rescue them from that place-- And the evidence for this can be found where ?

  • Once again, I would never present this statement to somebody unless they first accepted the validity of Christianity.

It would be like trying to explain calculus to somebody who rejects algebra. You need to accept the more fundamental truths before you can move on to the truths built upon that foundation.

Now, if you would like to discuss the existence of God and the evidence for that, I would be more than happy. I would even be willing to discuss the evidence for the validity of Christianity.

  • --You need to accept the more fundamental truths before you can move on to the truths built upon that foundation.--

Yes, you have to accept a fondamental fantasy, and built upon that foundation and accept more and more fantasy.

    EVIDENCE, man, EVIDENCE !!!!!

  • Do you want to argue the existence of God? Let's go. I'm tired of your ridiculous taunts, and this comment was made three weeks ago.

You're acting like a child, yet I understand you are an elderly man. Send me a personal message and let's engage in a proper debate. Unless you are a coward that enjoys picking fights he does not want to finish.

  • SeptemberCatholic18 : Only real Catholics are allowed to call non-believers "cowards". That`s one of the signs that you know your masters`s teaching very well. Thank you.

  • Since you avoided the challenge, I'm going to assume that you are indeed a coward to does not wish engage in a debate.

If you're going to make claims like that there is no evidence for God, then be willing to defend that claim in a debate. Otherwise, don't talk to people like me, who demand you back up what you say.

  • SeptemberCatholic18 I make no claim sir, You make a lot of claims and you provide no evidence. Provide evidence for hell, heaven, angels, demons, purgatory, even the salvation story. I am not unreasonable person. All, I SEEK is evidence. And if you can`t give this evidence don`t be surprised if I claim all this to be nonsense, until you prove otherwise.

  • Once again, do you want to debate the existence of God? Answer the question, sir. Or else leave me alone.

If you refuse to defend your beliefs against me in a debate, I will delete all of your comments on this page. We have no need for people who make claims they cannot defend.

  • SeptemberCatholic18: I am willing to debate anything, as long as you use logic and reason. If you use the bible or any other religious book, then you have to prove first that this particular book is a reliable historical document.

  • I don't need the Bible to demonstrate the existence of God. That would be circular reasoning. All of my logic is deductive. I use only science and rational thinking (philosophy) to arrive at my conclusions.

Send me a personal message detailing why you do not believe God exists, and I will provide a refutation as well as a positive case for God's existence.

  • Hey Philos...I am a Catholic and your last statement is a great challenge to present to Anti-Catholics.....

They claim the Bible is inspired because it says so but they can't back it up.

  • Hebrews 1:3 "When he had by himself purged (past tense) our sins"

"FIRE" cannot purge sins; it is blood that purges sins. The "fires of purgatory" would clean you from nothing even if they were there. Purged in Heb. 1:3 is past tense meaning we have already been completely cleansed. Compare Heb. 1:3 to Heb. 9:14 where we are told that the blood of Jesus Christ can "purge" our consciences. Purging has to do with blood. Not fire.

  • Once again, we have a grave misunderstanding of the Catholic position on your part.

We do not believe in a literal fire (which you would know had you watched the video). The fire is symbolic of the loss we will endure in God's purifying act. Hebrews 12:23 states that God makes the just men perfect. That is purgatory.

Purgatory is simply the process by which God makes just men perfect. It is not separate from Christ's sacrifice, it is an extension of it! Jesus' blood washes us in purgatory.

  • So are saying that we have been purged of sins that we haven't committed yet?

To me that just doesn't make since. If that were the case, any christian could just go around sinning all the time and it won't affect him

  • (Continued) Fire purges nothing after Calvary. The Old Testament sacrifices by FIRE were exactly what did NOT "do the job" permanently if we are to believe Heb. 10:1-2. Our purgatory is over.

  • This doesn't explain why Jesus died for our sins and there is still sin in the world. So yes we do need do be purged of sin.

  • SeptemberCatholic18; False is not the same as" lack of evidence", is it ?

There is practically no evidence for the salvation story. Besides, no matter from what angle you look at it, it simply doesn`t make sense. Moreover the bible itself says that : the cross is foolishness.

  • "False is not the same as 'lack of evidence', is it?"

True, but I never said that in my last message. The point of my last message was to express that this video was only directed at those who already accept Christianity, and not skeptics.

Lastly, I expressed my willingness to discuss the topic of God with you. I believe there is good reason on which to believe in God and in Christianity.

Trust me, I am not a blind-faith type of person. I consider myself an open-minded intellectual.

  • SeptemberCatholic18--Trust me -- Why should I ?

One question sir, did all those generations between the "fall of adam "and the "coming of Christ " need and deserve salvation ?

  • If you do not trust me, that's fine. But I can assure you I am a studious intellectual, always seeking the truth in scientific realms as long as theological realms. I am in college majoring in a scientific degree. I plan to get into either genetics or neuroscience. Trust me, I am not a blind-faith type of person. I consider myself an open-minded intellectual.

As per your question, yes, every person who has ever lived has been in need of salvation. Deserving? No, no one "deserves" God's mercy.

  • Philos2006... Perhaps you are thinking of Apostle Paul's words: "The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing....1Corinthians1:18a. Does the cross mean such to you? Just curious here.....not looking for a theological dust-up.

  • 20freddie20:Does the cross mean such to you?

Yes sir, it does. There is NO HUMAN LOGIC in the whole salvation story. Look, why would an omnipotent, omniscient god, who in his omnipotence has many pleasant options available to save mankind, why would he choose such a cruel bloody way ? I know your answer: Who are we to question god`s wisdom.? Right ?

  • Philos2006: Actually, I agree with your statement. Human logic really balks at the solution God chose to reconcile mankind back to himself. In Scripture, the apostle Paul wrote that without the "shedding of blood there is no forgiveness." (Heb9:22). God,through his son Jesus, willingly went through the humiliation of the cross for us to pay our sin debt. Jesus took the rap for our sin. WHY? I'm not sure but it works for him! Thank God!! (I'm Prostestant BTW)

  • Philo2006: If you ask people your question you likely get opinions and canned answers. God is more than ready to deal with the question you asked. Pick up a Bible and ask him directly. Expect an answer and you will get one!!

Ted Bundy was executed in Florida for the murder of young women. What he did was a violation of human law and justice was served by hs execution. If Ted apolgized to the court and cried big tears and was released, would that be justice? Sin is a huge crime to God!

  • 20freddie20: And now Ted Bundy is serving a second conviction by this loving father in heaven... ETERNAL TORTURE IN HELL... That`s really what we humans call a "loving father " !!!!!!!!

  • Philos:

I'm not picking up exactly what you are criticizing..God, the idea of God or what is taught or said about him. I like the quote by C.S.Lewis:"no one will go to hell who did not choose to be there."

  • 20freddie20: I like to quote myself;" there is No hell, until sufficient evidence is provided."

  • Philos;

May God grant you many years before you examine your sought after evidence!

  • 20freddie20:May God grant you many years before you examine your sought after evidence! ;

    HE DID !!

  • Philos:

Congratulations on living a long life. I think your preoccupation with evidence for matters of faith is doomed. Faith is trust in God and what told us in his Word. It cannot be weighed in a scale or laid out on a table for testing . The only evidence God offers anyone is creation itself and the human conscience (read Romans 1 carefully) as well as looking at the millions of people who have placed their faith in God. You are, in effect, shopping for tomatoes in a hardware store.

  • 20freddie20 You are shopping for reason , common sense and logic in a 3.000 year old fairy tale.

  • Purgatory, like hell is pure speculation and the product of an overactive imagination. There is NO evidence. NONE.

  • Well certainly they would appear to be imaginary given the presupposition that Christianity is false! I assume that is your position; most likely agnosticism.

I would never try to convince a skeptic of the existence of hell or purgatory without first convincing them of the existence of God and the validity of Christianity (particularly Catholicism).

Therefore your dissent is natural and understandable. If you would like to discuss the topic of God, I would be more than willing.

  • Another outstanding video! God bless you for your work....

  • this is an incredible video! thanks for posting!

  • Another outstanding video!

  • BTW what software do you use to make your videos? I need to get something different.

  • Thank you for your comment.

I use Magix Movie Edit Pro 12, which is a fairly frustrating program with its share of confusions. I purchased it for $70 a couple years ago. I'm pretty sure better versions of it have come out by now.

    God bless.

  • Thanks SC18. This was one of the earlier issues I settled before becoming a Catholic. Once I studied the subject it make perfect sense to me. Peace

  • I'm happy for you. I feel honored to have a convert as a companion in Christ. Keep up your own work; I always enjoy listening to you cut down JW and Protestant claims.

  • The book of Maccabees is not inspired. Jesus gave us the canon in Luke 24:44. Also, in Rom. 3:1-2 Paul tells us that the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God. This means that they are the ones who understood what inspired Scriptures were and they never accepted the apocrypha. Therefore, they are not inspired.

  • Actually the Jews in Jesus's time didn't have a set scripture. It wasn't set until the Council of Jamnia in A.D. 70. This is after Jesus came. Christians do not have to listen to the Jews because Jesus came. Look at the Ethiopian. They believe in the same books that Catholics do.

If you believe that the Cannon is in Luke 24:44 then you have to say that many of the new testament books, other then the gospels, are not infallible.

  • (Continued) In addition, Early church fathers like Origen, Cyril of Jerusalem, Athanasius, and The great Roman Catholic translator Jerome spoke out against the Apocrypha. So, we should not conclude that the Church fathers unanimously affirmed the apocryphal because they didn't.

  • They may have disagreed with it, but because they all affirmed the primacy of the Bishop of Rome, they accepted it as infallible. Just because they didn't accept these books, doesn't mean that they didn't believed in purgatory.

  • (Continued) 1Cor. 3:10-15 is referring to the judgment seat of Christ (judgment for saved believers only) which will take place after the rapture of the church where Christians will be rewarded for their good works.

  • The rapture is not biblical the way I believe you see it and when a man is saved though fire, I highly doubt that is heaven, but it also can't be Hell, So it has to be purgatory.

  • (Continued) Matt 5:25 Jesus is talking about how as an illustration people are to conduct their affairs in this life. The context is talking about earth not heaven. Also, Matt. 12:32 is paralled with Mark ch. 3 which is talking about sin against the spirit as an eternal punishment. Sorry SeptemberCatholic18, but none of your arguments prove "purgatory". Better luck next time!

  • Yep your right, your infallible interpretation is so much better then the next guys infallible interpretation. Ha JK!

What else could Jesus mean when he said, "... or in the life to come" I'm Sorry but it's you, Baptist315, who doesn't hold any water.

  • Great explanation. Keep it up. Peace

  • thanks for the video and the clear teaching, as a former protestant this doctrine along with the teaching about Mary were the hardest things to accept

  • If you found this video beneficial then I am happy.

  • Good video on the Catholic teaching of Purgatory.

  • a great video

  • And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but he that shall speak against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him neither in this world, nor in the world to come.

This is the key for me, if sins are not forgiven in hell or in Heaven, but only on Earth, then what is Christ talking about? "in this world (earth) or the next", --Purgatory.

  • Excellent! Thank you so much. Happy Easter.

  • Thanks for letting me know about this video, You truly are a great defender of the one true faith.May God bless you and His One Holy Church!

  • Thank you. I just hope your faith has been strengthened. God bless.

  • what is the name of the song Happy Easter
