i play open grip and snare style as well but open grip is really great for beginners its wat i teach students to play as well ive been playing for almost 7 yrs and i have a businesses sell and teaching drums but the thing i have learned in my teaching wise u have to have natural rhythm to play drums
here a good tip try drumming cross handed i used to do that and when i started crossing i found i was more persise just aliitle tip (props) ACDC rules

Try not to rock back and forth when you play, it makes it easier lol, good drumming tho!

if youre left handed you should switch your kit so it is a left handed kit.Your hands dont cross over each other.
