Great videos! Just put in the same skimmer. Still hear the white noise of the outlet of the skimmer. Just did a great DYI to fix the problem. Get mesh screen and zip tie it across the water outlet on the valve. I have it set close to yours and theres not even a ripple in the sump. I can't even hear the water splashing in the sump and there isn't back pressure on the system. Try it. Might better than the use of the airline in the valve.
Sort of. I keep it filled with SW, but I put the biological filters in the sump of the display when there's no life in the QT tank to keep it active....unless I've medicated the QT tank then I'll not put it in the display system.
really not sure, but they seem to have the same purpose. Sorry I'm just not up to snuff on the de-nitrator system, but what I do know it seems the same idea.
hey buddy like always i love the vids but i would like to know what kinda pellets you use as a sub for vodka dosing ? ive been dosing vodka for about a month now and its a pain in the butt lol. but it kept my levels a zero
NP Biopellets. Places like premium aquatics have them...lots others. In Canada Oceanic Corals carry them as well. I highly suggest a rector with them though. There's a big thread about them in the reefcentral chemistry forum.
just got a case of black ick on my yellow tang. Very disappointing, but i have been using an additive for food, and after three days, he looks better, but still has ick, hopefully he can pull through. I also have my PVC overflow all completed and need to install it tomorrow or sunday, how much were those reactors?? thanks
what kind of water you use im new and want to start a salt water tank do you have to use ro/di water or can you use tap water and mixing in the salt or what
I know some people that use tap water, but they always end up having algae problems. Even in my area which has good water naturally.
See tap water contains a lot of impurities that dechlorinating doesn`t solve. Nitrate, Metals, and all sorts of stuff that can cause problems. If you`re just keeping softies then it`s not that big of an issue....until the eventual painful algae bloom. With SPS water quality = survival, color, and growth.
i did have a bad cyno bloom before i added a hang on refugium all is well since then but i'm having absolutely no luck with SPS. i've had 2 acropora frags die very quickly while all else is fine .i thought it was due to my lighting being i run a 432 watt T5 fixture people keep saying i need a MH fixture i geuss i may need to start picking up RO water for maintenance that sure is a pain but i really want to keep SPS someday

Are the bio-pellets similar to the de-nitators that you find online for $250+?

Be careful with hermit crabs they are known to and I have caut many of mine eating my corals!
You may put some in until algae is gone and then put them in the quarantine tank. I much rather perfer snails

Guessing that is way more than 700 mg. Probably mls? Anyway, interested in hearing how this works for you, especially down the road. :)

ya ML.
So far so good with these. A few things I've noticed since changing to these only with no vodka is:
1) Nitrates and Phos still at 0
2) water is way more clear. With vodka I was getting cloudy water from time to time.
3) Aincreased SPS Polyp extention
4) feeling of stability in the tank
5) bacteria film is going away.

good luck with the ick...good water and food and marine fish have a good chance against it.
you can see prices at bulkreefsupply ... but they're about $40 each.

for my nano I used store bought water. Was kind of pricey even with a 10gal and a pain in the arse to always have to run and get.
For the 90 I got a 5 stage RO/DO and use SeaChem Reef Salt. It's got good levels...just a little low on the Mag but that's an easy fix.
I HIGHLY suggest using ro/di for a reef tank....not just for the algae, but also for corals.

whats the big deal with RO water why can't i use dechlorinated tap water?

Can you use tap? sure. Do I suggest it? No.
