  • My granddaughters husband returned from serving with the US Rangers in Afghanistan. Three months later he killed himself with an overdose. He knew what he was doing. Life was just too hard for this young man. He left a pretty young widow and three beautiful young babies.

THIS SONG IS FOR YOU TOO, ROBERT U.

    WE MISS YOU.

    Love..Gramps

  • @superyouper I am so sorry to hear this. I am a Reverend of the universal life church. I will now ask God to take this young man in to his heart, and keep him safe for ever and ever, Amen. If there's anything else I can do, just let me know.

  • @josephcormier

The family of Robert U. thanks you from the bottom of our hearts. He was a troubled young man who tried to stay afloat but just could not do so.

May the good Lord hold all of our troops in the palm of his hand. God Bless Them All. They do so much for so little.

    Superyouper

    USMC ..Viet Nam

  • its john prines song buddy

  • @freerocker101 Yes. I'm well aware of this fact. But thanks.

  • This is what war does - takes young men and women, and innocent civilians, and chews them up and spits them out. The rich in power just use the military as a tool for lining their pockets.

  • @parttimeuser You are ABSOLUTELY right, my friend. Thank you for this TRUE statement. You got guts. I'm behind you 100%.

  • @parttimeuser The military is a NECESSITY. Its not a tool for lining pockets, its a tool that ensures your freedom. Let me guess: Aging hippie liberal douche? Does that pretty much sum you up as a person?

  • @ErnestoScotto The military lines the pockets of many government agencies. One being the CIA. No, I'm not a douche. A hippie, yes. Liberal, no. Sorry you are wrong on most accounts. I just sing the song, written by JOHN PRINE. Make your comments to him. Fuck off.

  • @josephcormier Got no beef with John, the man is a legend. Most vets handle life fine after war, some break down, like Sam Stone. The song is fantastic and true to life, no problems there. My problem is with people who have such a negative view on the military. It's not a bunch of fat cat baby killers, invading countries for the hell of it. It's ordinary people risking it all to protect the freedoms of a nation. If you don't support your country, join the Westboro Baptist Church. Hooyah fucker.

  • @ErnestoScotto YOU AINT GOTTA CLUE WHO SERVED AND WHO AINT SERVED ....YOU JUST AINT HAD ENOUGH TIME FOR YOUR KILLINGS OF FOREIGN NATIONALS TO SET IN YET ! VIETNAM ERA VETS MAKE UP THE MAJORITY OF THE HOMELESS IN AMERICA ...THE MEN IN THE DESERT WARS DIED FOR WHAT SPECIFICALLY ? WE AINT gotta PROBLEM WITH THE MILITARY ---ITS THE WAY WE / YOU HAVE BEEN USED FOR WALL STREET INVESTMENTS....THE 4500 BRAVE AMERICANS DIED FOR WHAT ? Keep your dick hard for war ---they got IRAN up next

  • @TheIronicIdiot Thank you sir. I agree with everything you say. What the hell was it all for? GOOD QUESTION.

  • Thanks for those who can't say it anymore----- "lest We forget"; "Keep the Faith"; "Semper-Fi"

  • @4lsc88ho302s Good to hear from a member of the Marines. Thank you.

  • @4lsc88ho302s SEMPER-FI sums it up very well my friend. No more needs to be said. Thank you.

  • Great video.

  • well done sir

  • Keep in mind that God also blesses the Vietnamese men and women.

  • @bourbonstreet68 yep. and puppies and kitttens too

  • @bourbonstreet68 Absolutelt right my friend.

  • Very well done ! I will always give all Vets my everlasting support and gratitude.

Thank you and God Bless !

  • I'm a big Prine fan and this is probably the best cover of one of his tunes that I've ever heard. Thank You for this tribute to all killed by this war, here and there.

  • Thank you very much. God bless you are yours.

  • Very Powerful. Nice job!

  • You are most welcome my friend.

  • great job

usually hate youtube covers but this could be better than original 5 stars

  • Thank you very much. God bless you.

  • I am a Viet Nam vet - and a long-time JP fan. Great rendition, and great job on the video. I've got several JP covers out there myself. Feel free to check 'em out :-)

    Rick

  • Thank you Rick. I will check them out.

  • I looked for them, but couldn't find them?

  • Hauntingly beautiful...

Thank you for keeping this legacy alive. It's a painful subject, but we must not forget the lessons lest we find ourselves again in the jungle...

One of my all time favorite Prine tracks. I'm only 25, but this music spans all generations.

  • My Brother J P met him once. He said it was the greatest experience of his life.

  • you know i did 3 tours in nam, was a medic, been there done that. i can relate thanks for the post. God Bless.

  • I'm very glad you made it back alive, and in one piece. Thanks for your kind words. You are one of the true heros left in the world today.

  • It's suppose to be "Jesus Christ died for sumpim i supose" just my 2 cents

  • Exactly the point Prine was making. Thank you for your comments.

  • great cover of one of the best. Good job.

  • Thank you Mickey.

  • This really touched me. Thanks. I didn't have problems this bad, but I know a few who did. Can't help thinkin' of them, and wishin' there was something more I could've been for them. I'd do it all again, though. The best place to spread what precious little light you have is in the darkest places, you know. I did that better there, it seems, than I can do it back here. Some things are worth the pain; no one else needs to understand that.

  • I understand what you are saying my NEW friend. My hat is off to you and anyone who fought and died in Vietnam. That was Hell on earth.

  • I love John Prine stuff, but this is the best rendition of this song I ever heard!!!

  • Thank you gidontknowwhattouse for your kind words. John Prine is one of my heros in the business. I love doing his material.

  • You are welcome! I too am a fan of John's. I like his songs and play a lot at pre 1840 historical events and people just love his songs. I play the Hobo Song alot and Hello in There,Montgumrey, and Mullinburg County. Am working on Sam Stone as a lot of us are Vietnam vets, but I could not make it sound right till I heard your version which that style fits me better.

  • Welcome home soldier. God has smiled upon you. If I can reach out to just one person, this makes me happy.

  • I also wrote a song called Old soldier's refrain. It's on here some where. You, being a war veteran, are more than welcome to sing it.

  • Great version .. enjoyed listening..

  • great version of this classic prine song, your voice is somewhat like burl ives, nice work.

  • A really touching version. Thanks a lot. NO MORE WARS PLEASE. people want to live in peace.

  • Like I said, I don't come in here much. Just now seeing your comment. Thank you very much. This song is from my heart, and the soul of John Prine.

  • For all you do and have done, great thanks.

    Respectfully

    D

  • Sorry. I don't come in here mush. Thank you for your kind words.

  • Great Job! I've loved this tune since the moment I heard it..30 years ago! You rendition is the best I've seen on youtube! Your pix remind me of pix I have in a box, of boys gone to soon, from back in that dark time.

    Will we never learn?

  • Great version of a great song

  • Great song by John Prine. You did a great job, Joseph, singing this classic. I'm sure John and all the vets will be pleased with this worthy tribute.

  • Thank you very much for your kind words.

  • Thankyou for your kind words. All wars are HELL. All veterans are HEROS!
