this ambient track is really one of the world wonders and is magical. every time i get the feeling that this track has been there from the beginning when universe and life started. and also this track is thousand times better than the tracks of jean michelle jarre
yes. this music makes you feel like you're going to heaven after death and is uplifting cause this is ambient. a kind of electronic music that strongly influenced the pure form of trance music. ambient is like trance without beats and trance is like ambient. both are music for meditation and relaxation. not for drugs.
Such incredibly beautiful comments on this video, and all it does for me is make me with Autechre could remember how to write/create a decent melody. I miss the warm, feeling Autechre so much.
@ECST4C I like Loscil, Celer and Tim Hecker, for the same reason as Autechre (their earlier stuff, anyhow) and you can't go wrong with the memory-evoking effects of Boards Of Canada (though less traditionally "ambient")
@stoph2 2 minutes is not a long time. If you discard all music that takes 2 or more minutes to set the scene then you may well be missing out on a huge amount of music. In a society where everything is instant people seem to loose patience for things that require a large engagement to reward ratio. Also to know that it took 2 min to start implied you listened in, Its a slow fade in I'm not sure if it actually starts at 2 mins, Great that we hear 2 different things in this 'shit' I guess.
@jabeoo1 As I read your comment I realised this track was much longer than I would have guessed, these 8 minutes and a half felt like 4 minutes to me.
Still as affecting as the first time I heard it. For me, it is stunning and can create a sense of being emotionally overwhelmed. It is beautifully sad and yet contains a vague thread of hope. I love it.
As for the video, I think it links with the sound extremely well and allows the listener to weave their own images into the visual ambiguity. A darkened room with the video projected onto a large wall and the volume loud. For my sensibilities, it works.
@stoph2 I have neither made a claim to distinction of importance or have tried to decieve one with a false appearance of great worth, rather, my comment was an off the cuff response to a musical piece that lends itself to poetic interpretation. As for calling me a 'dick' I can only imagine that its a sophmoric comment made by a disgruntled teenager which, if the case, kind of makes sense. Possibly in the future your comments could be more constructive in nature. .
@jgilletly1 Jesus! What a cock! No I'm not a disgruntled teenager, I actually have a music degree. I also don't feel the need to express myself in such an extraneous way, this isn't graded. But OK constructively, I think this piece is completely dull. there's no thematic approach, there is hardly any change - there is just the one idea which carries on throughout. It sounds very lazily written, like a max patch done in 2 minutes, plus it's production is poor, as is the use of dynamics is poor.
It's entirely textural, not to say that makes it bad, but I think the use of fore/mid/background is lacking. There is no development, there's just a slight change in the middle where they have used some filters. I find it very hard to understand what people appreciate in this poor example of the style, more than sheer pretence
@stoph2 I’ve listened to the piece with your comment in mind and see your point. Deconstructing minimalism releases any hold it might have on the imagination. Without a beginning, middle, and end it becomes what? A moment of sound open to poetic interpretation. One’s imagination creates the meaning, or not. Its so obvious you’ve missed the forest for the trees dick head.
@stoph2 u sound like a poor uninspired looser, what a said thing sb with a music degree talking stuff like that.blabla no thematic approach, production is poor,as the use of dynamics,ur imagination is poor.there are other layers in music than technical or theoretical things.as long as u dont get that,my farts will sound more inspiring&touching than everything u'll ever "compose" u genius, send me ur degree id like2wipe my ass with it
This song has always been one of those I'd like played at a funeral. It reminds me of Blade Runner, and the end of the universe, and a life's experience being culminated in one intense wave of sound which builds and then fades after expanding.
@twistedH3L1X I think that Radiohead has definitely been influenced by Autechre; Thom Yorke often posts online about electronic music he listens to. However, I think some of their older work like Kid A and Amnesiac shows more influence than the newer albums.
@ajre82 You know, I like every Autechre album I've heard but I have yet to pick a favorite. The only two albums I own are Chiastic Slide and Oversteps, and while I like both I definitely think I should by more of their albums. Can't really decide where to start, though. My favorite track is probably Rae, but apart from that I don't know if I care enough to buy LP5. Maybe I should pick up that colllection of EPs they put out recently. What's your favorite Autechre work?
Rae's a good track. I think Tri Repetae++, Amber, and Incunabula are each consistent all the way through and easily their best work. Very important IDM records. I also like the Anvil Vapre EP. Their later stuff is hit or miss with me.
this song is up lifting, as if you have died a peaceful death in your sleep. and your soul looks down on your physical body as it slowly ascends towards the gates of heaven..
For this piece of art the electronic music was created.

Actually I find the youtube compression quite appropriate--it echoes the shimmering, slightly granulated feel of the reverb/delay effects being used.

Just two equal 6-notes grooves shifted in pitch and time. Amazing.

They definitely have an ear for dramatic harmony and tone. That they're ahead of the curve rhythmically is a bitchin bonus

Excellent concept and execution, the video is gorgeous and is an amazing complement to the track. Makes me curious what the original photo was.
I have to say, though, Garbagemx may be my favourite Ae song, so that would negate your opening statement. ;)
Thank you for this!
