@Arikitarouki Billy Howderel wrote the music for APC. Maynard has some influence but he's not some fucking god that makes us feel better for being addicts. If you're not doing what he's doing, put down the addiction and go express yourself. You're waiting for someone to say you are exceptional, but you already know you are. Go fuck the shit out of life.
Really great song, has kind of a Tool-ish feel, but not much, it still clearly sounds like an APC song, but still, the style is a bit on the weirder side, which I love. A Perfect Circle and Tool have really weird songs (Tool more than APC), but they make them sound like they are just right, like this is just what I'm supposed to be listening, which I love.
@MrBloodybullet - Yes, this Friday 1/20. Look at Ticketmaster online, but the tickets are probably sold out... The concert here in Orlando is on 2/7 and they're already sold out on Ticketmaster too, but I got mine :) You will have to find an independent seller most likely.
@MrBloodybullet yes they're going to be here! i wish i wasn't such a cheap-o and bought the ticket but I don't wanna pay $100 to see somebody. Not even a deftones ticket to go see them cost that much
@chodaLS1 - I know, when I saw the Deftones here in Orlando it was at the Hard Rock, and we paid about $80ish for two fantastic seats, and the Tool concert is at the UCF arena, and we paid $350 for two really good seats. What a difference! I better be close enough to reach out and grab Maynard...
I know there are probably some people out there, that when they hear him say "lie-HEE," they want to murder small mammals. But to me that's what makes the song.
@BiggerCityDreamz I agree, it doesn't really say either way. I just get the impression he's coming from a first person p.o.v. talking about getting his way into a girls pants but who knows? Its actually a lot more interesting that its like that in the end. There's a lot of Tool songs like that too. For the longest I thought Eulogy was about Jesus Christ. But it doesn't say definitively any way you look at it. Pretty cool stuff.
@BigBearfromthe206 Well Bill Hicks (The comedian who you hear speaking on a lot of their songs) passed and he was a friend of Tool, and I think that Eulogy is a generalization about death, but is also indirectly about Bill. Bill hicks had a lot to say because he was comedian :)
@feverdreams111 Definitely the wierdest song in APC's repertoire (not including the covers on emotive), but it's one of the best. I like the heavy guitar in this song a lot. Billy's guitar really made this song. I give it an 8/10.
I believe this song is about sex imo. Comfort is a myster crawling out of my own skin, time to feed the monster I don't need another friend, just take what I came for and I'm out the door again
@GTPDestroyer17 this songs about addiction to me, being a recovering addict myself, i relate. you don't feel comfortable in your own skin unless your loaded, you will do anything to feed the monster and you will destroy friendships and not give a fuck about anyone, and you will get what you want from people, and walk out the door again. kickass song though either way.
@NoDataNoFuture I don't think so. Even he does sound flat though, it really doesn't matter. He gets the message across, in my mind that's all that really matters to me.
i dont know why people think that only drug addictions are ADDICTIONS! This can be anything, alcohol, drugs, girlfriends, boyfriends, INTERNET and what not. Its an obsession, this funny feeling of digging deeper. I dont know Maynard in person (not hard to figure) but, people anything that can harm you and you persist of not giving up that feeling of being hurt can be a form of addiction. I love this song.
@aMoBaCh29 There are more than just a couple songs on this album that are about drugs. The 13 steps relates heavily to the 12 steps to recovering addiction that many people go through. As much as I wouldn't want to take away anybody's right to feel what they believe about any song, it is known that this album IS about drugs. No ifs, ands or buts.
@aMoBaCh29 while that is true, this song IS about drugs. no way around it. only a junkie would have these exact thoughts, not meaning any offense to any of the recovering addicts or addicts reading this comment; i say it that way because i've been there. anything can cause an addictions, but only one thing creates this kind of addiction and thought process: drugs. not two ways around it.
my good friend died yesterday and i can't stop listening to this song. anyone that's an addict and is reading this, please get help before its too late. he always said he knew what he was doing and was too smart to od. he knew what his body could handle. i have heard that from friend after friend and i'm so fucking tired of having to grieve the people that i care about .
@thelstrhi im sorry but your buddy failed the day he decided to try it to begin with. if you stick to weed or alcohol or dont even do that, you're probably going to be alright. Chemicals are different. :/ People dont ever see the poisoning of their bodies on the inside so it makes it difficult to stop. imo smoke weed err'day~
@BiggerCityDreamz no homo, but his voice really hits my switch, its sexually arousing me as we speak, i will fk while blairing a perfect circle...rock on
maynard james keenan is one of gods gift to music. weve also lost and have never heard of a great number of artists to the very drugs that once inspired them, never knowing life was all the inspiration they would ever need.
i broke up with my girlfriend around the time this album came out and i always saw this song as a representation of my place in said relationship as i was always stepping on eggshells and doing what i could to keep things even
This whole album is about drug addiction and recovering from drug addiction. Listen beyond the lyrics and see for yourself and if you disagree then you are a drug addict in denial afraid of facing the truth.
Hungry got me this far Then opening the door got me in Pizza's what im after I dont need any chicken Smile and drop the money i hope your listening I take just what I came for Then I'm out the door again Pepperoni on the pizza Don't care to settle in Time to feed the monster I don't need chicken wings whats on it is a mystery Crawling out of kitchen Just give me what I came for, then I'm out the door again in line to get what I came for in line to get just what I need ...
Like I said, it's perception, it's great that we all have varying opinions, but seeing correlations beyond the surface is just what I do, I'm not saying it's not about a drug deal, I'm just saying I view it beyond that because that's how my mind goes about evaluating all art, I can come up with a billion ways to look at the lyrics, but I seek the one that feels right to me.
Ugh... Sorry to join in at a bad spot but it's blatantly obvious it's about a drug deal. Just because an artist has songs that are "deep" doesn't mean all of them have super special awesome meanings. No, this song isn't at all about spirits, in fact, it's about what people do when they crave drugs. If it were more about spirits, I think the lyrics would address that a little more. The fact that people are arguing over a simple song though proves how good this band is.
"To me" states that this is my perception. This is art open to the individuals interpretation. To you this is about a drug deal, good for you. Maynard is very 'deep' and uses many drug references and drug metaphors in his songs, but you think this is something he is stating as the concrete basis of the song? That's up to you I guess, but don't go insulting people because they view things differently or in a way, dare I say it you can't come up with yourself.
I am just going to be as informative as i can be for anyone who doesn't get it ITS ABOUT A DRUG DEAL no super hidden meanings...straight forward message.....quit over thinking simplicity...it just makes you look dumb
@SUNGame85 the funny thing is that you could be right... now what kind of drug is open to everyone, a relationship is my drug the deal is that I would lie to get something from her....and to think maynard is ever straight forward.. well oh come now.
To me, this song is about spirits or beings who come through this transient learning experience and existence, lying to themselves about their purpose, level of spiritual enlightenment, believing settling at one point or accepting one ideal will gain them whatever they're seeking after it, what they're here for, that spot in Heaven, Nirvana, Bliss, Paradise, they're taking what is 'theirs.'
Hey guys! Hate doin this, but don't think maynard/god would mind. Spreading the my word in the modern way! If anyone has the patience and time to check out my debut demo then please feel free to pop by, comment if ya like, love any feedback! Appreciate the support and time. Have an amazing life everyone! Peace - Liam
I love to fill my head with what famous musicians are really trying to say and then repeat myself and then repeat myself and then repeat myself with meaningless musings so that I seem to be doing something with my little thoughts about nothing about nothing nothing
The bass sounds similar to Death Cab for Cutie's "The New Year" (at least the first two notes of each hyper-measure) and they were released the same year.
....What kinda nightmares? I don't ever here music in my nightmare's...Unless it's words taunting me. Voices chanting horrible things. And people think I am some blond teenage girl who only has shallow thoughts </3 -_-
@NotessimoGod I turn it up the volume with this song, it's a good song that builds up the anticipation until the heavy guitar riffs at 4:07 send the song to another level. If you can appreciate the structure of this song you'd see why this is actually an awesome song to listen to with the volume up
after 3 years of being heavily addicted to amphetamines and finally kicking the habit...this song hits too close to home, but damn the truth hurts so good.
IMO, this song is the clients thoughts as the client gets the drugs from the dealer. Having been on both sides i believe thats a pretty safe bet on the meaning. but then again i think im right as well as eveyone else, i think its up for interpretation.
imo maynard never set a "specific meaning" to his songs.... i think he meant for the fans to try to interpret what he meant. but in a way that connects to their own life:)
@Agnostic1breed no offense bro i love ur attitude but having an opiate addictions is nothing to stand up for, its a depressing regretful sickness and i hope you can cure yourself, cuz no one else can do it for you... i was there for 4 years, homeless and addicted and its no life to live.. I've been over a year sober and i've come so far but theres so much to learn, don't waste it man, im from Stoughton WI and 5 ppl i know have OD'd and died in the last 17 days, don't be one of em........
@TheDylon424 Well allow me to retort! I have overdosed and know very many that have and not made it. I'm not proud of my addiction but i'm very proud not to have used since going to prison in 2008. All I was trying to say is that this songs speaks to me on soo many levels. just give me what I came for, I don't need another friend sums up what I was feeling back then. But I'm clean your clean lets hope the rest can do the same...
@Agnostic1breed kudos to you man, it just sounded like you were showing off ur addiction in the present.. thats awesome your clean man as u know its hard to do.. it took alot out of me but it was worth every second... props man.......
@TheDylon424 Agree, I live in Madison and the amount of Heroin overdoses around here are ridiculous, like, people ODing while driving even, and my uncle's ex-girlfriend's daughter just OD'd and went brain dead just a month ago..
@tzDub92 well...the whole "clever " enough part to be able to run for president, the "Tricky" part for that voting fiasco....the "lying to get what I came for " part was when he was saying there are WMD's in Iraq when we all knew it was for oil...etc etc. just a musing of mine is all.
This song is about any addiction, sex drugs, adrenaline. Anything, that you don't care about others, just getting your satisfaction. People try t classify it as a certain addiction, but it is ALL addictions.
heh...wonder why we're talking about sex....when that's clearly not what this is about....for those who don't know...take heroin/oxycodone for like a week and you'll understand fully what this song is truly about...going to a dealer when your withdrawling.
@babytweeze85 i was addicted to opiates (heroin/oxycontin) for 4 years and ive been 1 year sober today and i do agree this song entails opiate addiction very clearly, i got a tattoo on my back with the apc logo with the quote "comfort is a mystery crawlin outta my own skin take just what i came for and im out the door again" to never forget what ive been through, but i do feel it has to do with any strong addiction....
@davism4a1 as shitty as that is the only way to get clean is to go cold turkey and suffer. Taking subs or methadone is just a bridge getting you hooked on something else. I got clean by just locking myself in a my room with bath attached with no phone or comp. My wife came in to feed me. It's pure hell for a week, but it's the only way to rebuild your dopamine and get yourself better. It sucks, but you feel like a new person when it's over. after that just stay away and youll be fine.
@davism4a1 i feel for u hard bro i wouldnt wish that feeling on my worst enemy.... keep ur head up bro just remember it does go away if u can seperate urself.
The melody of this repeats in sets of threes which gives it a very eerie, plodding, continuous feeling instead of your typical compartmentalized measures. I love this song. To me it's about that 'thing' deep below - the thing, usually out of sight, that really matters... though most of APC and Tool stuff follows that theme.
This song must be about my wife.

The bass sounds similar to Death Cab for Cutie's "The New Year" (at least the first two notes of each hyper-measure) and they were released the same year.

The beginning of this song sounds like the songs in my old nightmares...

@xlunabearx
....What kinda nightmares? I don't ever here music in my nightmare's...Unless it's words taunting me. Voices chanting horrible things. And people think I am some blond teenage girl who only has shallow thoughts </3 -_-

I suppose you have a point. Still I think that the comment isn't very original, though.

This song isn't even the really loud kind. Please don't copy and paste, it makes the rest of youtube look stupid.
NotessimoGod 3 months ago

Yeah I never meant to say "This is what the song means." I just thought it was kinda fitting.Thats all.
significantjunkie 3 months ago
imo maynard never set a "specific meaning" to his songs.... i think he meant for the fans to try to interpret what he meant. but in a way that connects to their own life:)

TheDylon424 3 months ago 38
@TheDylon424 Well allow me to retort! I have overdosed and know very many that have and not made it. I'm not proud of my addiction but i'm very proud not to have used since going to prison in 2008. All I was trying to say is that this songs speaks to me on soo many levels. just give me what I came for, I don't need another friend sums up what I was feeling back then. But I'm clean your clean lets hope the rest can do the same...
Agnostic1breed 3 months ago 2
@Agnostic1breed kudos to you man, it just sounded like you were showing off ur addiction in the present.. thats awesome your clean man as u know its hard to do.. it took alot out of me but it was worth every second... props man.......

This song is about any addiction, sex drugs, adrenaline. Anything, that you don't care about others, just getting your satisfaction. People try t classify it as a certain addiction, but it is ALL addictions.
Sinaduel 3 months ago
heh...wonder why we're talking about sex....when that's clearly not what this is about....for those who don't know...take heroin/oxycodone for like a week and you'll understand fully what this song is truly about...going to a dealer when your withdrawling.
babytweeze85 3 months ago
@babytweeze85 i was addicted to opiates (heroin/oxycontin) for 4 years and ive been 1 year sober today and i do agree this song entails opiate addiction very clearly, i got a tattoo on my back with the apc logo with the quote "comfort is a mystery crawlin outta my own skin take just what i came for and im out the door again" to never forget what ive been through, but i do feel it has to do with any strong addiction....

davism4a1 3 months ago
@davism4a1 as shitty as that is the only way to get clean is to go cold turkey and suffer. Taking subs or methadone is just a bridge getting you hooked on something else. I got clean by just locking myself in a my room with bath attached with no phone or comp. My wife came in to feed me. It's pure hell for a week, but it's the only way to rebuild your dopamine and get yourself better. It sucks, but you feel like a new person when it's over. after that just stay away and youll be fine.
babytweeze85 3 months ago
@davism4a1 i feel for u hard bro i wouldnt wish that feeling on my worst enemy.... keep ur head up bro just remember it does go away if u can seperate urself.

champ2040 4 months ago 19
The melody of this repeats in sets of threes which gives it a very eerie, plodding, continuous feeling instead of your typical compartmentalized measures. I love this song. To me it's about that 'thing' deep below - the thing, usually out of sight, that really matters... though most of APC and Tool stuff follows that theme.
