I suggest you rethink the entire track plan, starting weith the purpose of the railroad; and redo the benchwork accoringly

By purpose where it is located, and time frame what are the industries and how many frieght yards,engine service facilities etc.

I would build something that would be fun to operate and to scenic.\

Building a mountain in the back does not make it much easier to reach the derailmants,

Ummm I would say Make it a city, with tall buildings. and start the mountain where the gravel plant is. Personally I like variety in scenery, if everything was mountain...that would get old.
