  • Not just Bush, situations like this have existed before bush, McCarthy, and so on. And will continue to exist even after bush has long left the earth.

  • This episode was light-years ahead of its time.

  • The lady in this episode reminds me of Sarah Palin. Especially when she accused the President of "palling around with terrorists." People are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. A person's associations does not make him/her guilty. Actions do. We do not live in a society of guilt by suspicion.

  • Well done! Many thanks!

  • picard 2012!

  • ‘The people can always be brought to the bidding of their leaders. All you have to do is tell them that they are in danger of being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.’ Hermann Goering.

  • @nastyevilbunny That quote seems to fit the political atmosphere in the years following 9/11.

  • wow...this is perhaps the ONLY time that i have visited a page on youtube where EVERY comment made was intelligent and eloquently worded. Hats off to you all. .

  • Everyone who wants power will use fear and deception to get it. They will incite people to their cause but in the end, only a few will get the power and the rest will suffer. Dont bother taking sides in the political spectrum, both sides are a bunch of power hungry jackals willing to throw anyone under the bus to get what they want. This is what happens when the chains are undone that hold the power of governments. Once you undo those chains, its almost impossible to get them back on.

  • Conservatives are pussies. They are people who are permanently afraid. Afraid of gays Muslims independent women communists socialists you name it. Even if there is no enemy they will create one like they did in the 90s with Clinton as they simply cannot define themselves on their own they always need to fabricate a contrast and then appease themselves with the "We are better than them" mantra. Just a bunch of insecure animals constantly trying to prove they are tough and strong.

  • @sondano ... wow ... very eloquently put.

  • blame this on the neocons who are driving this war for pastor hagee doomsday cult.

  • This goes far beyond the left-right view. To place this blame squarely on just the gov't is not seeing the forest for the trees. Corporations have been "buying" politicians or becoming politicians themselves so that they can put forward their goals and aims at the expense of the people. The truth is that the wholesale corporate takeover of our gov't as well as others around the planet. Look beyond to the Military-Industrial Complex, the Banks, Wall St, they are the ones responsible, the NWO

  • That woman sounds like Glenn Beck

  • I've been searching for this episode for a very long time, sensing what everyone here must have sensed. Will we wake up in time? We all know that something smells in Denmark, but most people's programming won't allow them to see reality as it truly is, that is why we continue to get what we ask for. The idea that so many have viewed these clips, tells me that the information held here has a universal appeal that I would hope all (humanity) could embrace.

  • Life is stranger than fiction

  • EXELENT! Like to add that when 1 mad-mans action can dictate the whole worlds security polecy(the wouldbe airplain bomber thisx-mas), the poleticans and media is leading us willingly in to totalitarism, with theryr Fear-mongering.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN: "Any society that would give up a little freedom , to gain a little security, would Loose Both , and Deserve Neither". (also exelent sayd) this is what they have all forgotten. (even Obama)

  • "President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair were not sure there was enough evidence to convince the Security Council ... Bush proposed an alternative: paint a U.S. spy plane in United Nations colors and see if that didn't tempt Hussein's forces to shoot at it. In any case, he said, the war was 'penciled in' for March 10 and the United States would go ahead with or without a second U.N. resolution."

    --The L.A. Times, 2/11/06

... quit waiting for Bush to confess. He lied, period.

  • I love the part where Satie says "I have no friends" and underneath it reads "Dick Cheney". Hilarious!

The primary difference between the UFP (United Federation of Planets) and the USA (United States of America) is I.Q.: In the end, the head of Starfleet security (a black man, no less) walks out when Satie breaks down like McCarthy. The public I.Q. is much higher in the 24th century.

In contrast, Satie would be put on a pedestal like Sarah Palin if she was in the 21st century. Again, I.Q.

  • Nicely done... this episode made me think of the exact same thing... the line at the end is my favorite quote ever and well said by Patrick Stewart ''Waiting for the right climate in wich to flourish, spreading fear in the name of righteousness''

  • In some ways the captions were a distraction from an important message. Although the actions of the Bush admin fit well with the warnings of this episode. We should always be aware that there are people like Sati in our societies, and the best way to protect freedom is to be mindful of the liberty of all men. When one person's liberty is compromised, we are all compromised. I urge people to watch the entire episode (as well as many other Trek episodes) and let it provoke your thoughts.

  • It is easy to "cherry-pick" (select lines/inject opinions without regard to context and/or reality) to support a pre-ordained conclusion. It is difficult to try and understand and accept the justification and true motives of the Bush or any other administration in trying to fight the war on terror, especially if he is someone that for whatever reason you don't like.

  • I appreciate the comment and am happy to see that my video-commentary is generating debate and discussion. I must rebut your assertion however that the nature of my commentary is based on an emotional dislike or an over-arching inability to thoughtfully consider the motives of Bush or others on the "war on terror". In fact my thoughts and considerations are rational and not based on "party" affiliation. I just happen to believe the "war on terror" is deeply flawed and misguided.

  • @jssandler No, what he said is true and you dismissed what he said because your beliefs are deeply flawed and misguided. I can explain to you how those beliefs are flawed and what about them makes them misguided.

See, all you did was make the assertion that the war on terror is deeply flawed and misguided - so tell us why. Without telling us why the war on terror is flawed and misguided how do you expect us to believe you? Or do you just expect people to just trust jssandler from youtube?

  • ''Hey guys!! lets fight the War on terror by spreading Terror'' ''we should create a Terror meter so that the population would know when we want them to panic''

lol... terror wich was sponsored and organised by various braches of the NATO during the Iran/ Iraq War

  • Its one thing to randomly accuse people, like what happened in this episode.

The Bush admin faced a real threat from real people, people who by their own admission wished destruction on America.

I do not like of the assumptions made in this video, specifically to the WMD part at 3:15 . The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.

  • It's not even an apt analogy, because Iraq was sanctioned by the UN, many times. They violated the cease fire, many times.

WMDs were ONE reason to invade, and, because the media was relentless about WMDs and WMDs alone, their absence created an illusion of illegitimacy.

  • Too bad the author forgot to mention that. WMD's were ONE reason out of many. Good point. i like the part with the "illusion of illegitimacy". I could not have put it better myself.

  • brilliant :)

  • Very clever : )

(This is off-topic, but the alien character at 3:07 / 4:13 looks strangely like the model Lily Cole)

  • you realize, of course, that this episode was aired years before the Bush administration took office, right?

  • That's the whole point of this video. He's saying this episode's major themes mirror what happens during the Bush administration despite coming out years before.

  • Very well done. I'm glad someone did this. This is one of my favorite episodes out of all of Star Trek; not just TNG. I wish they'd picked up on Simon Tarses's story, told us what ended up happening to him....do you think he was pardoned as a result of Satie losing her credibility?

  • The Republicans are always shoving that bullshit in peoples faces of course they always rap it around words like patriotism to make it sound justified and guilt people into accepting it.

  • I remember thinking in 1991 when I first saw "The Drumhead" that I was watching something special. I never imagined that this episode would so clearly become a cultural mirror.

  • Bravo! I bow to your brilliance in assembling this!

Or as my Jedi master Yoda would say... Learn from this we must.

  • Brilliant, brilliant, well done, mate!!

I wish today's Sci-Fi shows concentrate more on moral storytelling than on blowing things up!

  • One of the best and most inspiring episodes from tng, great acting and speach of patrick stewart

  • I always loved that episode. You've drawn some parrallels to things going on in our country. I will be so happy when George W. Bush is out of office.

  • fascinating and very perceptive !

  • Very well done and timely video. Wish we could make those in power watch it.

  • Highly Logical.
