  • these guy's are great for a 1st listen

  • Jethresis...

    :-)

  • Damn! So...there are five or six albums of this stuff which I now have to source, buy, burn to disc, and listen to...gentlemen - you have royally fscked my weekend! Now I have found it, this music is too good to ignore. Leaving aside all the obvious discourse concerning Genesis/Tull/Marillion influences, what impresses me is that this music is right in so many ways... the voice, the vibe, the instrumentation...and not least the songwriting. Excellent.... not that I'm jealous or anything ;-)

  • FishGenGabMarr-i-tull !!!

  • Singer wants to be Peter Gabriel?

  • wow Good stuff. It remind me Marillion and Malibran!

  • First time hearing this!!! Very nice, I dont know who the group consists of but it echos with the influences of Genesis, Tull and Yes. Very nice texture to the piece. Excellent artistic environments.

  • Great band!

Been to a Genesis tribute band at Zoetermeer for a bit of sentiment. Saturday to The Script Marillion for some more. But this is new stuff for me!

    Thanx for posting.

  • awsome my favourite of these so far, thanks for these videos i needed some recommendations from the 90's i've barely gotten beyond the 70s or neo prog yet in my journey of prog discovery. are you a fan of the 00's prog band The Tangent? this sound kind of reminds me of their first album

  • They're not a Genesis-like band, only the singer's voice is similar to Peter Gabriel's one.. They're more like a harder version of Locanda Delle Fate.. However they're great!!

  • oh my days, where the dickens has this been hiding all my life?

  • This is good progressive rock!

  • "Serpents in Camoflauge" and "Somewhere but Yesterday" are prog classics. What has Citizen Cain been up to lately? Wish they'd put out some new stuff, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. And put it on vinyl, too! :-)

  • It is like PETER GABRIEL and IAN ANDERSON joining the same band .

    Great sound !!

  • Genesis, ... ?

hmmmm, ... the first 2 minutes i must think a little bit at pink floyd. ( i hear it today the first time ever)

but afterwards, .... yes, .... positively

i think at the influences from jethro tull.

especially because the sound of the pipe

by the way , ... very great sound thx for posting.

  • Very good group, very similar to Genesis, I like!

  • Small update/correction (that'll teach me not to check my info before posting)

According to the latest Festival Music schedule, the back catalogue is due to be re-released in October, and the new album in January next year.

    Hope that's of some use...

  • Apologies, possibly bad tidings for anyone that's bothered -

Festival Music now have November down for the re-releases, and March for the new album.

Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up before...

But on the plus side, I just heard of a guy in Iran who's recently discovered Citizen Cain, and has got a copy of SBY (no idea where from, but hey...) :-)

It's a small group of aficionados, but fascinatingly geographically diverse :-)

    Cheers from over here.

  • Cheers for positive comments guys - worldcitizenforever, any similarity between my bass-thwacking and Mr. Gee was purely coincidental - only heard Pendragon for the first time very recently...

Now, if you'd said mid-70's Jethro Tull, well, definitely guilty as charged :-)

I still haven't heard any more news regarding the new album, or re-release of this older stuff.

    Ho hum.

    Cheers!

  • Best Jethro Tull period: "Songs from the wood", "Heavy horses", "Stormwatch" (John Glascock) This is my personal opinion, of course.

  • Heh! Glascock was definitely my favourite Tull bassist (although Mr. Pegg was excellent too!), and he's always been a big influence on my playing :-)

So much great music in those three albums, had them for more than 25 years now, but they always still sound 'interesting'.

Although that said, my favourite Tull song is "Seal Driver" on "Broadsword" :-)

Not keen on the current line-up - that's probably just me being hopelessly nostalgic :-)

Cheers from the birthplace of the mighty Ian Anderson!

  • This is eerie. It's like discovering early Genesis recordings that have never been released before. This is great stuff!

  • Yes man!!! You've said it all hahaha!!!

  • The sixth album is well on its way, but you didnt hear it from me, I'm only his brother, what would I know. He could spend a year editing it LOL

  • Haha, well, that's good news anyway. Let's let them work their way. A good legion of "Creepy Johns" are waiting!!! haha

  • Grandi i Ctizen Cain Somewhere but yesterday è senza dubbio un grande Album ma sinceramente ascoltando attentamente tutta la discografia non ne trovo uno peggiore io cmq amo in assoluto Serpents a mio avviso canzoni come Stab in Black e The Gathering sono di un impatto senza alcun precedente speriamo che esca presto And The Skies Darkened non vedo l oraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa . • Evening. Can't believe people still like this, 15 years after we finished it - cheers for the comments...

Andy Gilmour (ex-citizen cain: basses, some flute, and 'collapsing garden wall' on "somewhere")

  • In my opinion and some friends of mine CITIZEN CAIN have recorded some of the best albums ever!!!

Thanks to you Andy! You knew how to make feel that strange magic!

    Thanks again for commenting!!!

  • David,

heh! many thanks for that. Somewhere But Yesterday was a big challenge (26 minute track - ouch!), and great fun...

Supposedly was meant to be re-released last month..ish. No idea if/when/etc.

As for me, well, I've got the usual "MySpace" page, sporadically post at "Mid-Life Bassist" on blogspot, that sort of thing...

    cheers again,

    Andy Gilmour

  • Thanks for the info Andy!!!

I checked out your MySpace page (very good music now as well) long ago desperately looking for news about CITIZEN CAIN!

    Thanks to you all!!!

  • The current line-up: George - sorry, I just *can't* call him 'Cyrus' :-) , Stewart and Phil (I think) have a myspace page now -

Look for "citizencaincitizencain", that should locate them...

    cheers,

    Andy

  • That's my dads band...

  • Tell him to come back, please!!! We fans miss them!!! Such talent should no longer be crucified!!!

  • Ill see, he will be back from Australia soon.

  • He sounds very close to Phil Collins

  • PETER GABRIEL's name has to appear here hahaha, though CYRUS is incomparable either!!!
