There's all kinds of people who can sing to technical perfection and you know what, they're as boring as hell to listen to. Jewel has radiance. And even if her voice isn't 'technically' perfect, it's the perfect match for her music.

But Jewel can NOT sing, I don't know about her other songs, but in this video, she isn't singing properly when she starts resonating her voice, she's squealing like a strangled cat, and way off key when she does so.

I agree that a lot of artists today sound horrible live (and not even like the sound on their albums). But we should note that there are a lot of factors to consider, like who's being marketed, to whom, and the arguably lower barrier to entry regarding music.

Anyways, often times it's not the most popular music that's the best.

She's never been paticularly big here in the UK. She's picked up a small cult following, but as far as commercial success goes - she's scored one top 40 album ('This Way' #34) and two top 40 hits ('You Were Meant For Me' #32 and 'Down So Long' #38) Chances are if you went upto someone in the street they would have no clue as to who she was. I think the last time she played live over here was way back in 2002 on the 'This Way' tour. She was amazing live, but in recent years i've lost interest.

Yeah I've gotta agree that this is a fairly poor version of the song. Too much embellishment - there's not enough development of the melody. A real shame because the album version is exceptional in that regard. However to play the same song thousands of times and keep it sounding inspired is probably well nigh impossible, so it's hard to criticize nevertheless.

the b and high e strings are on there, they're just hard to see because of how thin they are. but she probably could anyway, she's one of the best. im a big fan and this is one of my favorite songs of hers and the most beautiful performance of it ive seen/heard.
