I may not know much about genetics, but I wonder if the deformity in the genetic DNA from the father's side could've been why some scientists claimed the father to "unclassifiable" or what-have-you. The argument that the symmetry is proof of it not being a deformity isn't true. Many genetic defuncts can be carried out symmetrically, so that was a weak arguement.
