Original Castlevania was hard, because it was so primitive. The controls were totally rigid and the game had to be played in an almost mathematically perfect way. But, if you figured it out it became really easy and you coul ace every 2d castlevania game after that with no problems.

The controls and feeling of the game changed with SOTN and it became much less rigid and more free for improvisation, "easier" and appealing to more people.

@MadDoctor04 look at super castlevania 4 it took the liniar style and fixed the controls, no cheap deaths, whip in 8 directions, using the R button for secondary items, and subtracted the number of enemys on the screen, i never understood why konami that was the only game in the series to use that,

Castlevania I had the hardest controls and distracting music.

Castlevania 2 starts you where you die, so when you die by falling off and you forget to let go of the button, you die AGAIN...

Castlevania 3 had good music, more unique characters, and more characters = More Subweapons. Not to mention it controlled better and it didn't have Medusa Heads all over the place.
