Condi claims that no plan was left, one attachment is publicly available, the other remains classified. If you read the 9/11 testimony you'll learn that Bush's staff did act on the memo. No, they didn't adopt every recommendation, but they did act. Enough to remove this issue from Clarke's radar. When he was given the chance to brief Bush personally on any topic, he chose cybersecurity. As far as twisting words, if Condi had said there was no comprehensive plan and left out the fact that there were incomplete plans, then I would agree. But she didn't. Bildo didn't know the meaning of 'is'.

The law Bush broke was the FISA law enacted in 1978. It also allows warrants to be granted retroactively. A Federal judge ruled the wiretaps to be Unconstitutional. Only this last week of September, did Congress compliantly give him permission. FDR and Lincoln got permission from Congress before any grey moral action taken in their wars. Hypothetically, if a Dem were in charge, would you be showing them the same courtesy?

The reaction to the Cole was as if it was a police issue. This may have been due to the administration's policy of containment. That works with an enemy that has the same policy. However, all that changed, and now the policy is assertive engagement. Many people do not believe in the new policy. They think it is ineffective, inefficient and costly. If Hillary wins the nomination, a Republican gets elected again. That is why she will battle, but likely not get it. We will hear speech after speech the next few months on the mistakes of the current President, but I hope the Dem's save some outrage for the actual enemies we are fighting. In one of these responses, I explained that the National Security Archives have posted a 2001 Memo to Ms. Rice from Mr. Clarke. On the last page, there are notes for two references. Tab A available, Tab B remains classified. If anything else, this memo introduces broad discussion. Perhaps the Media should push for these issues instead of giving Ms. Rice soft ball questions.

Yet Condi has not provided any proof for her statements and providing it now would smell of cover-up. There is a memo in the National Security Archives about 5 pages long from Mr. Clarke. On the last page are two referenced documents, one drafted in 2000, another in 1998. I don't know why I have to do the press' job for them.

Right, but Condi's smart enough to know a Memo isn't a plan. That would arguably be in the two attachments. Condi claims that no plan was left, one attachment is publicly available, the other remains classified. Basically, there was a strategy, it may not have planned for every contingency, but credible statements by the Administration about any proactive strategy appears neglected.

No she did not claim that NO PLAN WAS LEFT. She said there was no COMPREHENSIVE strategy left and the ONES THAT WERE had huge holes in them. Which is EXACTLY what Clarke said in his memo.

So bottom line is that no planning was made by Bush's staff beyond Clarke's plans. Clarke's position was downgraded, just like FEMA. If this were anyone as president, this was a bad decision. Both preseident's were shortsighted, but the current one has claimed any glory. Additionally, his focus was no doubt Iraq. That plan has proven that Iraq was certainly uncomprehensive. In regard to your counter argument, Condi seems willing to use the same word-twisting that Clinton was deemed guilty of.

If you read the 9/11 testimony you'll learn that Bush's staff did act on the memo. No, they didn't adopt every recommendation, but they did act. Enough to remove this issue from Clarke's radar. When he was given the chance to brief Bush personally on any topic, he chose cybersecurity. As far as twisting words, if Condi had said there was no comprehensive plan and left out the fact that there were incomplete plans, then I would agree. But she didn't. Bildo didn't know the meaning of 'is'.

So a PDB stating that bin Laden was determined to attack stressing the urgency of taking action isn't clear. Clarke swore under oath and with consistency that attention was needed ASAP. Gen. Franks didn't regard existing plans and Gen. Shelton also did not recall any interest in Al Qaeda by the Administration. All said under oath.

Shelton was a military type involved in the exploration of options to counter the Cole attack. He was commenting on the lack of interest in undertaking military operations against AQ in Afganistan. Not a blanket lack of interst as you have spun them.
Franks thought Shelton's Cole plans were crap, not Bush's AQ plans.

The unemployment rate is better today than it was at any time during the CLintons reign of terror. Our military is respected and feared again, unlike the 90's. Defits are high in part to letting a Kennedy write the education bill, passing the medicare prescription bill. Bush is as conservative as you claim to be.
