The QV, QM2 & QE2 are all beautiful looking vessel although the new QE is not the best looking ship IMO. Btw...us Americans saved Cunard from being lost as well as building the QM2. Also the Canberra is not ugly at all!
I have worked on all three queens and have to say that QE2 has a style of classiness about her, QM2 has a style of opulence about her and the QV is, well just simply nice, which is what Cunard is all about really, hats of to them. Although I dont agree to them building the QV as she is just another class ship, ie there are 7 other ships the same shape, Cunard have nearly always had different shape ships which sets them apart from the rest..due to satisfying the share holder....we have to suffer.
@qemc Regarding The QE2, how sad the end for a Grand old Lady of the Sea!, far better that she be scuttled mid Atlantic than to end up in the hands of the ilk of Dubai. what a national tragedy and disgrace.
Look, both cruise ships and ocean liners can cross the Atlantic. But ocean liners are designed for this, whereas a cruise ship is not. The difference is all about design and performance specifications. Also, go on-line and do an image search for "tandem crossing QE2 QV" an you will see one result of the difference. But cool video.
Why bother fussing over whether she's an ocean liner or a cruise ship? Personally, I don't care. I love both the QE2 and QV TO DEATH! Have sailed on all three (including QM2), and like those two the best. Not a fan of QM2 at all-she's too big for my liking. QV and QE2 are both close to each other in size. But I love QE2 the most! Pity she's retiring this year, I just cannot believe it's happening so soon...:(
Look at the ships specs, they are both built to cross the atlantic. Queen Victoria looks a picture in Southampton on a sunny day, queen Mary also. Lizzy is looking dated now.
yes i no she is built like a cruise liner but she was built for the transatlantic run. Also cruise ships arnt used for trnasport the for holidays and ports.
yes i agree with you she is capable of crossing the atlantic, not at a great speed though, but she is beautyfull inside, but according to the designer of the QM2 who gave a talk about her whilst on board she is no express liner like the QE2,QM2, and the old favs like queen mary and elizabeth, and many more the hull design is totally different for one and the steel used a lot thicker !
All cruise ships are able to cross the Atlantic in that the Cunard vessels are not Unique. The Victoria is based on the Holland America Line Vista class. The hull design is similar to those Vista's even the steel thickness. She's a bit longer then the Vista's.
The P&O Cruise Ship rcadia was originally destined to be the Queen Victoria back in 2005. At the last minute Carnival decided to pull it as it was deemed too small! Queen Victoria has 2 more decks than your average 'Vista Class'. That's also why it took so long to get any information about the ship or book a voyage.
Actually the Arcadia have the same two small decks aft before the funnel. Compared with QV 2 decks is that the outside is slightly rounded on QV. The overall basic design is exactly the same as the Vista's only the QV is longer and that make here slightly bigger in grt. Fincantiëre technical information: Vista: 82.000 grt lenght: 254 m Widht: 32.2 m Arcadia: 84.000 grt lenght: 254 m Widht: 32.2 m Queen Victoria 89.500 grt lenght: 265.3 m Widht: 32.2 m
Queen Victoria may not be as unique as QM2 or QE2 but she's still a very very beautiful ship endorsing the Cunard's classeness!!!!! When you love the great Cunard you cannot dislike her.
Long live to Queen Victoria and her sistershipssss.
sorry to inform you the queen victoria is a cruise ship i crossed the atlantic in her and although she is beautyfull trust me she is no liner!!She bopped around like a cork. once the QE2 retires there will be only one express liner left the QM2
I saw Queen Victoria in Norway today, they saluted her by playing the British national anthem "God Save the Queen" and had fireships drive side by side with it and shoot water into the air, was a really cool sight =)
I agree that Queen Victoria may not be the best looking ship in the world at least its got more stlye and grace than P&O's new Ventura which they might has well have named Canberra had done withit considering how awful it looks and indeed how outdated the Canberra was when it came into service way back in 1961
THAT's what a liner should look like! Elegant, proportioned, modern and graceful. Why can't Cunard commission good-looking ships any more. The new ones are all horrible-looking!
I am sorry to disagree with you, but the one that is sailing is Queen Victoria and where this video was taken, the one that is pulling away from the dock is Queen Elizabeth 2. I am a travel agent and a Cunard Commodore agency. I'd know these ships anywhere!! I have studied them inside and out...
You are very lucky to have been on her maiden voyage!! I bet she is a grand as she looks. One day, I will be on board as taking a Cunard cruise is my dream. One day.....sigh.
No, these ships are not Carnival ships, yes they are owned and operated by Cunard, however they are part of the Carnival Corporation. Same with Princess.
but when the Qe2 is in dubai as a hotel at least we can c her aye but :(still so sad she is my fav ship to c in fremantle i would have the day of skool to just go c her so so sad:(
What's a little ironic about this is that the QV is to replace (in a physical such a way) the QE2 for travel and cruises. It's almost like when the QM met the QM2, you know!
That was an ignorant thing to say. They may be British Registry but they belong to the world and all who sail upon them. To me, they are the most grandest ships afloat!!
The QV, QM2 & QE2 are all beautiful looking vessel although the new QE is not the best looking ship IMO. Btw...us Americans saved Cunard from being lost as well as building the QM2. Also the Canberra is not ugly at all!

QV says: "Yesh it does."

The name Titanic is jinxed, so no ship will ever be given that name again. Also, Queen Victoria is a cruise ship, not an ocean liner, sadly.

Cunard is owned by Carnival, which is listed in both New York and London, so not totally American-owned.
