@MrTIRILLY I love Rachnimof too, but my hands are so small, I'd never be able able to play his pieces T-T but... I feel that schubert is more expressive with his melody vs harmony, rachminof is expressive with the use of chords (je suis desolee, je ne peux pas parler le francais tres bien... >.<)
I think he meant he prefers Rachmaninoff's rendition of this, the Schubet-Liszt Standchen :-)) They are so similar in how they intepreted this, surreal artistry, both versions are immensely lyrical and beautiful. There are three pianists at that unreachable level; Rach, Horowitz and Gilels :-)
the dynamics he plays is so great that makes the entire piece sweet, colorful, elegant, poetic and magical. yes, it is magical. No wonder Horowitz is the greatest pianist of all...
Mr.H being Himself. This is the standard-setting interpretation--the
performance to which one would aspire. So many Horowitz hallmarks : the singing melody lines, the inner voices, the hidden inner voices, the nanosecond rubatos, the color changes--all achieved in the most subtle fashion.

thinking to myself i needed to here shubert's serenade right now, with limited resources at hand i turn to youtube. And wind up spending 20 minutes listening to different videos where its just NOT done right. and then finally i see horowitz's name on a link. =] thank you, needed this.
Only Horowitz truly creates the illusion of three-handed playing (upon the third statement of the theme). Why is it that no one else properly creates this illusion? Is Horowitz so much superior to every one else?
Thank you for this! Wonderful performance, and very Horowitz like, truly makes me get butterfly's from the big romanticism that was devoted to this masterpiece.
The painting is "View of Constantinople by Moonlight" by Ivan Aivazovsky; 1846 oil on canvas. This picture is displayed at The Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
i am longing for the day when all those trolls and fools who use to repeat permanently that horowitz might be a bad musician are open to conviction finally.
this schubert example proves completely the contrary, the incredible skills in touch and sound do really underline his extraordinary musical mastership.
@berlinzerberus How right you are, but I am told many of the "critiques" of VH are from current "world-class pianists". What an irony since most current "virtuosi" have zero musicianship, while Horowitz is one of the great artists and musicians along with Rachmaninoff and Gilels. BTW Rach's version is also surreal, like this performance :-)
inegalabile...

Some people want white females to mix with non-white males.
I made a one-minute video highlighting a very tiny sample of race-mixing advertisements.
I love white people, and I am opposed to race-mixing. But I do not hate non-whites.
If you click on my name “autumntree2011” highlighted in blue below this comment, you can watch my video.
(I'm not a fan of Hitler or KKK.)
