  • Ernie Hawkins is the best guitar teacher I have seen: funny, laid back, thorough, and totally becomes the music he plays. We are really fortunate that he sought to make a career in instructional DVDs of the earlier Blues, Rag and fingerstyle masters; because he's so good at getting across each piece.

  • great playing and singing.......

  • I Want that shirt !!!!! :-)

  • Absolutely great!

There's something that's so hard to find in the acoustic player, a clear & funky sound... Only in a few, shure in Rev. Gary Davis, Ernie, Stefan & Jorma

    Thanks for post it!

  • Ernie you are certainly a master guitarist you have done Rev Gary Davis proud his music will never die god bless

  • A Master...

  • super!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ernie is a real blues master. He can play simply chords, and make it sound like a full band of bluesman. Incredible playing.

  • Ernie is not only a great musician but I real gentleman and patient teacher. Took a workshop with him and Stefan and came out a fingerpickin' maven. I am still learning from his 3 DVD RGD lessons.

  • Ernie is the man!

  • Also lend the swedish group PIEDMONT PROJECT you ears and eyes here at Utube! They play the actual piedmont blues like the old string bands and are the european messengers!

  • I live in Sweden (Norrland) and know of this band. They are really interesting, pretty good and well worth a listen. I don't rate them though when compared wih somebody like Ernie who is simply superb.

  • Ernie is a student of Rev Gary Davis and I have all his cd's and instructional dvd's. All his stuff is highly recommended great player

  • Ernie is another musician who is keeping this music alive and kicking for us, and is an expert in his field.

I could hear the influences of Rev Gary, Mississippi John and Lightin' Hopkins in this piece- a real pleasure to hear and to watch being performed.

A thousand times, Thank You, Ernie for posting this wonderful performance, and keep up the good work in 2008!

  • too bad there's no 10-star rating. ernie and stefan grossman deserve worlds of credit for preserving this style of music and presenting it in an easy to follow instructional format. his "guitar of lightnin' hopkins" dvd is brilliant.

moderately relevant question: does guitar workshop plan on doing anything similar for brownie mcghee? he seems to be the only one missing from the "the guitar of..." dvd series...

  • I think Happy Traum (an old guitar student of Brownie's) has already done this on his operation, Homespun Tapes.

  • right you are! in my blind loyalty to the guitar workshop i never even thought to check.

ordered and en route, thanks for pointing that out!

  • Ernie's a great player and teacher.

  • That was a very nice video, Thank you :) ...

It sucks that it has so few views

  • GREAT I have all his CDs. Would like to see more videos.

  • We'll be uploading one of Ernie's Rev. Gary Davis lessons in the near future.

  • I'll be watching for it. Thanks

  • great picking, great singing, great video
